Sam and several insiders have hinted quite strongly at compartments, which leads to swelling of the tissue, and nerve damage. His legiment damage means little, it will be the nerve impact on healing that will ultimately tell if he is ready by beginning of the season.

This is comical coming from the supposed coach.
Well the opposite of a penalty is a reward, as in guys who have busted their ass for an entire year in the weight room, class room, film room, meeting rooms, etc. It's an experience that many will never forget regardless of if they are particpating in the game or not.
Your reasoning is silly and childish at best. The guy who busted his tail for you all season long on scout team should in your words "go home and play video games, drink a beer, watch the game, hang with buddies" instead of be with the team that he gives sweat equity to? Come on coach, youre better than that.

|10/13/2016 - 12:43pm||Seriously?||
You mean the same Oxford that put two brothers at SMU, one was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year (Prescott Line). Zack Line plays for the Vikings currently, and Prescott is now the starting FB for Michigan State. The same QB I was talking about is now at Navy.
|10/13/2016 - 10:40am||Watched a lot of Southfield Games||
He was a stud. My first time seeing him was his junior year against Oxford, and on the first play of the game Oxford ran a naked boot, and he flat out destroyed the QB. That same series he blocked a punt and ran it back for a td.
People were asking themselves who is this kid? Michigan, MSU, and Syracuse were all at that game to see him.

You first have to remember that not every head is shaped the same, and that a Schutt may fit you far better than a Riddell, or a Xienith, or a Russell, etc.
Riddell and Schutt still lead the way in helmet technology and sales. All of the rest are nowhere close to these two giants.

Not that I feel like debating college rankings, but I can assure you that no admission departments use this ranking. I went to UM undergrad, but for grad school I applied to UVa, Michigan, and Pitt, it was far more difficult trying to get into UVa than Michigan. Cal-Berkley is ranked above UM in every majoy ranking US News, World Rankings, etc. Not sure how you composite these rankings when UVa and Cal are ranked above Michigan in all of them lol.
|02/15/2015 - 3:45pm||Big Least||
Congrats, they played one, maybe two legit opponents a year.
|02/15/2015 - 12:56pm||Ok||
But all things being equal, how do you judge either of the two in terms of S&C? What metric is being used? Show me something of substance that says person a is better than person b.
I understand everything you said, and I played division 2 football, so I am well aware of dynamic lifting. However, do you really think that what Barwis was doing was really that different than Wellman? I can tell you one thing, our guys were gigantic under Wellman compared to Barwis. Is that a result of Rich Rod? Sure. However, if you're going to sell me Barwis is such a God amongst S&C Gods, where is the proof? He had more pro's in his first year at Michigan (Trent, Martin, Hemmingway, Molk, Graham, Minor, Brown) than he probably had in his career at WVU.
Is Barwis well respected, sure, is he considered the best? Hell no.
|02/15/2015 - 10:52am||Barwis||
When will this guy and the unrealistic understanding of what he does come to an end? Barwis is a self promoter, and we all bought the garbage surrounding him hook, line, and sinker. Congrats Barwis has his own gym, no one has ever done that before. Congrats he works with the Mets, he's actually done that for a while now, and guess what, they suck.
Mike Martin trains with him, awesome. It is insane for guys who trained with their S&C coaches to come back right? Shoelace chose to come back and work with Wellman, so did Lewan, rather than work with Barwis.
YOu want to talk about inferior physically? Lets talk when Barwis was our S&C coach. Lets remember when Wisconsin literally linedup and ran it down our throat 28 straight times. Any time we played a team with a pulse, we were embarrassed physically. Before someone gives me the, well Rich wanted us smaller. Why is it that Oregon is 290-300 on the OL, yet they don't get destroyed up front?
|02/01/2015 - 10:54am||Start w your coach||
I'm a high school AD in Michigan, Class A Division 1. Our school has kids who have played in the NFL and NBA, so it is a little easier to get the attention of college coaches. However, you start with your high school coach or AD. Nothing gets the attention of a college coach like a coach or AD picking up the phone and calling the college guys directly. The things is, you have to be realistic with your son and yourself. If I pick up the phone and call Michigan about a kid who is low level MAC, I lose credibility and hurt my chances of helping another kid down the road. I've had a kid who was a legit big time D1 prospect want to talk to all of the biggest programs, and the first thing we had to do is look at his grades first. He wanted to talk to Duke, but with his grades that wasn't an option.
I always start with telling guys to give me their top 5. Give me their one dream school and than four others that he is truly interested in. Usually if they give me Michigan, followed by Eastern, Central, etc, that tells the kid something right off the bat. Kid has to be realistic with himself. Last year a kid wanted Central, so I said make a list, he brings me Central, Western, GVSU, Wayne, etc. He was a legit d2 kid, but had speed issues, so I asked him if he wanted to win a ring, he said yeah. I picked up the phone and called Mt. Union, and that is where he signed.
Lastly, get seen. If your kid has big dreams, go to a big camp. Most of the time it will help put things in perspective. Being a big time d1 talent is rare, and when kids see what that looks like, it helps put recruiting in perspective. Take him to a 1-aa or d2 camp, and see if that is where his talent is more realistic.
Lastly, don't send highlight tapes. Coaches don't want highlight tapes, they want two game films.

Tolbert, more importantly, worked with Tommy Moffitt, considered to be "The Best" in the business currently, during his years at Miami, FL.
So he has worked with Moffitt, Gittelson, and Turley....that is a good resume.
|12/12/2014 - 12:50pm||Whittingham||
This information behing shared on Kyle Whittingham is somewhat incorrect. Whittingham was offered the Tennessee job in 2010 and turned it down, and Florida requested to interview him and he said no. So he is very much wanted by other programs, but as you did point out, his family is mormon and most likely he isn't leaving.
|12/10/2014 - 9:30am||He is a hell of a coach. You||
He is a hell of a coach. You don't win ten games at Duke (last year), and nine this year (easily could have been ten), and not be a damn good coach. He isn't leaving there though.
|12/10/2014 - 9:27am||Congrats to Rich Rod, he did||
Congrats to Rich Rod, he did his job as a coach and recruited a good player.
I remember back to 2008, when Rich Rod had 6 NFL players on his defense (Jamison, Graham, Martin, Mouton, Trent, Brown), four of which have started in the NFL, and they were awful.
Glad he is having success in Zona, but unlike some here, I remember the Rich Rod who only beat Purdue and Illinois his final season here as we struggles to get to 7 wins. Anyone with a pulse beat us like a drum.

There is a reason only front page info is shared by the mods on this site. You can't just let the inmates run the asylum and expect it to copestetic. That has been what's been happening at GBW for years. Several members who are self proclaimed insiders get to say whatever they want, have no actual sources, at least not any they have to cite, and anyone who questions the integrity of the post is banned. It is quite commical actually.

Danimal!!! What's up buddy, long time.
Good story, last week an actual former player questioned Beaver about claiming to have info about Lloyd undermining Rich Rod. Said he saw it with his own two eyes. The poster, who is a former player mind you, said funny thing is, I haven't seen you at any of the practices I was at when these supposed instances occured. What happened? Instant site ban.
Now his followers demand justice. Hilarious.
|12/08/2014 - 5:05pm||The funny thing about all of||
The funny thing about all of this, is Tom has been living in Texas, California, and Oregon for the past ten years. Tom gets his second hand info from many of the so called insiders on his site (lifetimers who love self glorification by announcing they know someone in the program). Back in 2010 he actually banned one of the best information sharing posters on his board. Beaver claimed it was due to misinformation, turns out it was this guy witnessed Rich Rod dress down an equipment manager while at practice, and Beaver was scolded for letting that info reach subscribers.
It is also ironic considering Beaver went on a banning spree back in 2010 with the Rich Rod fallout.
This instance is no different. Beaver shares second hand info that is leeched onto by the members, and they end up sharing his posts on twitter, facebook, here, etc. Sam works closely with Michigan's athletic department, when misinformation is shared on Sams board, not Beavers, well you can imagine how ticked the athletic department gets. That is a pure guess, but pretty sure that is what is happening.
This is truly commical, most of the posters are pissed because they "want to be entertained" and don't want truthful information.

|11/21/2014 - 8:50am||John Kelly||
There needs to be more excitement over this youngman. He is a guy that Michigan is most likely to pick up out of this group, and on the same stage was a man amongst boys when he played Cass Tech. I saw him three times this year, and he is very very good.

That same whiz of defense gave up 54 to Cal this year, yes, Cal.
Rich Rod played in a piss poor big east, and lost 3 of his 4 games in his final two years at WVU to UNRANKED teams, including the biggest choke job in college football in his loss to Pitt.
He also was a PR nightmare while leaving WVU, then again at Michigan. Coincidence that asshole pisses off people and leaves town?
Stop with the, he is successful everywhere else...where is everywhere else? He has been a head coach at three places, GVSU, WVU, and Michigan, before Zone. He had 5 losing seasons at all three, so the guy is not elite. Zona has yet to have a winning conference record, lets pump the breaks.
Rich Rod sucks.

By continual improvement are you really using his record to make your point? You mean getting obliterated by your rivals, having a losing conference record, having to out score average middle of the road big ten teams, and nearly getting your qbs killed yearly improvement, than I guess yes we improved. Good for rich rod that he is finding success again, it has only been since 2007 that he has had a winning conference record.

What does an athletic department runs its self mean?
His direct supervisor is responsible for his evaluation, and if he will be retained or not. That would be the President. I've never heard of Regents having to sign off of a non-renewal. That would be your human resources department. I've worked in college athletics, saw a football coach get fired, and it was the AD's decision with the support of the President. Now BOD or Regents were involved in anyway.
|09/20/2014 - 1:34pm||I agree with a lot of what||
I agree with a lot of what Magnus is saying.
I will say this, that Michigan High School Football is starting to take football more serious. Brother Rice going down to Ohio and beating teams like Pickerington North is a big deal. They beat Clv. St. Iggy too last year I do believe. This is big time. You are starting to see Michigan produce more college players, and more "elite" recruits as well. Southfield last year had two All-American's on one team, this is huge imo for a public in Michigan.
The difference in Ohio and Michigan, is small town football is so much better in Ohio. Little towns across Ohio are very serious in Ohio, like shutdown everyone to the football game on Friday's serious. This just doesn't happen across Michigan yet. I played DIV football in Ohio (Ironton), we had about 900 kids in our school, and my sophomore year we had 7 division one players on that team (three went to majors---Jason Harmon to MSU, Reggie Arden to Ohio State, and Roman Frye to Clemson). Roman Frye would go onto play in the NFL for the Bucks for a season.
I will say that Ohio is very serious about football, and nearly passed a bylaw allowing for spring football practice. I wouldn't lump Ohio and Pennsylvania in the same sentence as other midwest states.
The problem with these "elite" recruits in the midwest, is keeping them home. Think of all the Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania guys who have recently gone to Bama (Trey Depriest, Robert Forster) Texas (Jordan Hicks), USC (Ty Issacs shortly), Florida (Alex Anzalone, Valdez Showers) Ole Miss (Lequan Treadwell), Oregon (Dior Mathis, Jake Fischer, Dwayne Stanford). The list could go on
