The G.O.A.T. (sorta) disses Ohio State QB pipeline

So apparently Sunday's game against the Bears represents Tom's first NFL start against a former OSU quarterback.

Here are his thoughts on the matter:

I think your 100% right about the OSU athletic QB assumption which is why Urban Meyer never really flooded the NFL with QBs. And even Tressel had his share of RO QBs (Terrelle Pryor, Troy Smith, etc...). But have you looked at Day's QBs that he's pulled in since he took over a couple of years ago ?  All are NFL - type QBs.  No, they're not statues and even Stroud can take off for 15 to 20 yards. All have big-time arms and keep in mind that Day was an NFL QB coach. This thread might come back to bite in 3 to 4 more years

Some additional details (LINK)

"That's interesting," Brady mused, with a sly smile. "Why aren't there a lot of Ohio State quarterbacks in the pros? Lot of Michigan guys over the years but not a lot of Ohio State guys."

* * *

Since Brady entered the NFL in 2000, six different former Buckeyes QBs have started a total of 45 games. (One of them, Terrelle Pryor, started 10 games at QB and 20 more at wide receiver.)

In that same time period, a total of seven non-Brady Wolverines quarterbacks alone have started 164 NFL games.

Fields, the Buckeyes' QB in 2019 and 2020 and the 11th pick in the 2021 NFL draft, will be making his fifth NFL start with the Bears. For Brady, it will be his 306th career start with the Patriots and Bucs. (And when Fields was born, Brady was in spring practice his senior season for the Wolverines. When Brady won his first Super Bowl, Fields was 30 days shy of his third birthday.)

So the NFL starts tracker since 2000 currently reads as such: Michigan QBs 469, Buckeyes QBs 45. That's dominance.

would you rather have osu's record v. michigan since 2000 or tom brady's nfl success for a team you don't even for over the same time period? this is a brain buster.

eh, it's not a red flag for me, a fan of osu having good players at osu. it should be a red flag for you, and you should ask yourself why the greatest qb of all time had to split reps in college with a freshman and his biggest accomplishment was winning an orange bowl. shouldn't the goat have won a heisman? he even lost to john cooper! who loses to john cooper?!

They are about one thing in Columbus - winning college football games.  The NFL only matters to them to the extent it helps them recruit.

Taunting about NFL QB starts is like taunting them about GPA.  They don't care one iota.  If their entire football team posted a 0.0 GPA and somehow remained eligible, nobody down there would bat an eyelash.  They focus on one thing, and as a result have become very good at that one thing.

Is he talking pros? Cause I'd say there were certainly some OSU QBs I would have rather of had here than what we had. Also, if you count Burrow there are 2 OSU QBs that are now starters in the NFL vs 1 Michigan. Once Brady retires who will Michigan have?

I get it he's the GOAT and taking jabs is fun but that Michigan QB pipeline has gone dry since Henne.

Fields doesn't really count, IMO... he played one year there after truly developing at UGA and was never really an OSU recruit.

This means we couldn't really claim Ruddock either, but I feel that's also accurate.

If LeBron was ever going to college I find it really hard to believe that he would’ve gone anywhere other than the usual suspects of Duke, UNC, Kentucky or Kansas.

If OSU tries to claim LeBron, a guy who never even went to the school, then there should be no eye rolling or scoffing by them against Michigan fans who still cling to Brady.
