The dust has settled - predict the top four

Submitted by ChopBlock on

Essentially, we have 4 teams vying for three playoff spots. Alabama will be the #1 seed of course, but for spots 2-4, the following teams are in the race (astersik = conference champion). Sorry Oklahoma, better luck next year.

Ohio State 11-1

Clemson 12-1*

Washington 12-1*

Penn State 11-2*

Do Clemson and/or Washington jump Ohio State? Does conference champion Penn State squeak into the #4 spot? Post your predicted top 4!

Bama, Clemson, OSU, Washington.

I think it should be Bama, Clemson, Washington, and Penn State.

OSU beat us and Wisconsin in overtime and if Dontania kicked the extra point, they may have gone to OT with 3-9 MSU. OSU's offensive line is a sieve and Barrett has the accuracy of a stormtrooper. We had that game won with any sort of unbiased officiating. OSU is not that good. They didn't win their conference, they didn't win their division, and in the head-to-head with PSU they lost. We waxed PSU, but that was a long time ago. That's not the same PSU team we destroyed. Sorry, it's just not.

Bama
Clemson
OSU
Washington

The committee can say all these teams had 0-1 loss. Everyone else had 2 (except WMU). They can justify it that way as saying Ped State is incomparable to OSU or even Washington.

As much as I hate to admit, I find it hard to believe that a two loss big ten champ that defeated both Ohio state, Wisconsin, and Iowa is left out. I hate Psu and what they stand for more than anybody but I think they sneak in.

this is dangerous thinking. i believe it was lamarr woodley who said 'whoever we play next will lose, guaranteed!" after michigan was left out of the bcs title game and then u$c smashed us.

edit - maybe it was after the loss to o$u but before the bowls were determined. either way, still dangerous.

The conference championship games are fucking bullshit to begin with. I like the way the Big12 is doing it.

If PSU makes it into the top 4 there is no justice in this world. It should go as follows:

1. Alabama

2. OSU

3. Washington

4. Clemson

5. Michigan

6. PSU

I cannot fathom the comittee putting PSU ahead of us with that curb stomping they took in Ann Arbor.

Seriously, top 4 prediction. 1) Abalama 2) Suckeyes 3) Washington 4) Michigan Clemson suck. Penn State 2nd out. Michigan beats Abalama - Suckers beat UW and Michigan beats osu for National Championship (resoundingly).

I agree that Washington could get dumped, but Penn State has a 39 point loss to Michigan and a loss of Pitt on their resume. Big ten champion or not, those are bad losses. If you followed the rationale, you could then say Michigan has a better resume, but no championship.
I think we see the committee show us that conference championships mean little to them when Penn State gets left out

was over 2 months ago.  No they're not as good as either Michigan or ohio ... but they won the B1G championship game (and no one on this board thought they would beat Wisconsin) AND ... they beat ohio.

If we were in this EXACT same scenario ... there isn't is single Michigan fan that wouldn't be livid if we weren't in the CFP.  C'mon guys get a grip ...

I think it's clear that the committee values fewer losses over head-to-head result. Michigan and PSU will be the left-out teams. I will pray for exactly one thing for the next four weeks: that OSU is embarrassed in its semifinal game. Most importantly, do we think Clemson or Washington has a better chance of doing that? With OSU's luck, they will surely play the lesser team.

The committee does have to debate now if they can take PSU or not. If you take OSU, now you almost have to take PSU. They have the conference title and they head to head win. Tough call, but I can't give a bid to a team that lost to another team, 49-10, and to a team that I know would get blown out by Alabama. They know Meyer's OSU team is a better team and better matchup.

I'm thinking it's going to be 1) Alabama 2) Clemson 3) Washington 4) OSU. OSU draws Alabama since they don't have a conference title, and PSU fans will proceed to flip an absolute shit. The committee will be doing them a favor by sparing them from a 59-3 beatdown.

1.) Bama

2.) Some team that probably got destroyed by Bama

3.) Some team that may have gotten destroyed by Bama

4.) Some team that definitely got destroyed by Bama.

Well, if I had to guess what the committee will realistically do given the results of this weekend:

1) Alabama

2) Ohio State

3) Clemson

4) Washington

3 and 4 might flip, but I don't think so. I think this order - as it was earlier in the week - is what we're going to get.

Would love to be wrong about #4, would love that to be us, but I very much doubt it could be now.

We only played 4 road games this year. A last second loss by 1 point to a pretty good Iowa team and....well we all know the other one. It's like they're discrediting our win over MSU because it's in the same state. Even though the Spartans really dropped off this year they put everything they had into beating their most hated rival. I don't care that Colorado, PSU, and Wisconsin were all at home. We beat 3 very good teams and last I checked the home field advantage is only worth about 3 points.

I think it will be Washington. You have to wonder if the committee will consider matchups though. Do they want another massacre in the first game? To me, that is Michigans only hope. Nama would probably destroy any 4 seed including UM but they would 100% destroy PSU and most likely Washington.

My guess has two possible thought processes. Bama, Clemson, Washington, Ohio State. Bama vs Ohio state on New Year's Eve will up the viewership for that day and because Clemson and Washington won their conference titles, they will be rewarded with a 2-3 seed matchup and not the dreaded 1-4.

The other thought process is that Penn State won last night and they could Jump Ohio State and be in that 4 spot with Clemson and Washington at 2 and 3.

My hope is that the committee can use the Penn St game to declare that Michigans giant win over them (49-10) and the 4 pts combined margin in Michigans two losses on the road this year out weigh Washingtons weak scheduling. This could be enough to get Michigan into the 4 spot.

My thoughts are that the committee needs to pick the 4 best and shock the world by having Bama, Clemson, Ohio St, Michigan or Penn State.

If I was on the committee, I would stand up and say the following:

"Whoever we put in slot #4 will have to play Alabama on New Year's Eve.  Just ask your self one question:

Which team out there can make it a competitive game that people will watch?

That's who you should pick.  Forget about anything else."

If they do that, they will pick Michigan.

Alabama OSU Washington Clemson ---------- M PSU I am very unimpressed with Clemson. Penn St. arguably has a better resume (OSU and Wiscy). Michigan is significantly better than both of them. Sleepwalking through the Iowa game was very costly.
