Duke has released 5-star recruit, shooting guard Boogie Ellis, from his letter of intent.

Do any of our recruiting experts know whether Michigan has pursued this recruit?  Position of need, and a clearly a top recruit.

Would love a little Boogie on the team!

Smart move.  He’s only the #34 overall player in 2019 and probably wouldn’t get much PT at Duke.

Yeah, he's a guy who could come right in at Michigan and either start or get a lot of minutes as a freshman.  The coaches could certainly sell that, plus all the other attributes U-M and Beilein offer.  But realistically at this late hour, he's likely to gravitate toward the schools that he's at least had some past relationship with.

Absolutely love that the star of Blue Chips, a movie about dropping bags, is now dropping bags as the head coach of Memphis. The poetic symmetry is just... *chef's kiss*

My only question, does he have to return all the money he took from Duke? Or is that fine. Or can Memphis cover it like when a new school covers a coaches buyout? Because if I'm Coach K, I'm not letting him out until he gives our bag back lmao no double dipping.

I know monthly payments are the go to in football, but I feel like elite prospects can demand whatever in basketball. But even a monthly option, lets say he's getting 20k a month he's committed. He gotta return the money for the 4 months he's been committed or is it a sunk cost? This is what I gotta start asking kids lmao.

That's the very definition of a sunk cost. I suppose they could refuse to do business with the agent in future but that's about it.  They have no future relationship with the player to leverage and they can't plausibly threaten any sort of legal action to force return of the funds.

I'm glad you added "MBB" because I definitely thought this was their women's team at first.

Love the fact that Penny has just came in and all of the sudden Memphis is THE destination for these 5 star players. Nothing to see here folks, move along?

While I do believe they are paying people, I could see why there would be n initial recruiting influx there w/o paying kids.

Memphis is a very fertile recruiting ground, Penny is the Memphis prodigal son and an all time talent.

I do think there are payments going on, but there are logical reasons for getting top talent. I mean the #1 kid in the country is from Memphis.
