CFP Rankings projection: Georgia, Michigan hold top 2 spots - CBSSports
Yes, I think we need deep passes to connect again before we go drinking this Kool-Aid. However, it's pretty fun to see it in print.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:15 PM ^
This scares me. Hopefully we dominate circa 1997 from what others have said and that really builds for a huge stretch run.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
If only we could just move to the playoffs right this instance!
October 26th, 2021 at 8:29 PM ^
Quit being such a pre-Madonna for all intensive porpoises.
October 26th, 2021 at 10:31 PM ^
Cher was the diva pre-Madonna.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
How would M line up against Alabama? Presumably #2 would play #3.
Might as well jump into it and meet the challenge head on.
October 26th, 2021 at 11:31 PM ^
hopefully onsides
October 26th, 2021 at 11:40 PM ^
Nooo, first have to figure out how to get down field receivers open. More importantly, how to connect with them.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
"Note: This projection is based only on results to this point. It does not reflect the final forecast for the playoff. "
So in other words, he's not predicting we're going to beat Ohio State, or even MSU for that matter. He's just saying, as of right now: undefeated P5 team, pretty solid SoS, good fancystats.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:32 PM ^
He’s saying he thinks we’ll be ranked there on Tuesday next week, based on results up to now. (Obviously if we lose, that changes)
October 26th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
Yes, but its interesting how the other 3 undefeated teams fared:
5 - Cincinnati
6 - Oklahoma
7 - Sparty
October 26th, 2021 at 8:40 PM ^
Cinci's not power 5, so I assume their SoS is low and dropping. Oklahoma's had 5 one-score games, several of which were against not-very-good teams. We've only had 2, Nebraska and Rutgers. Sparty... nobody cares about sparty.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:03 PM ^
This is assuming Michigan beats MSU this Saturday, since the CFP ranking come out on Tuesday.
If we win no doubt in the top 4, Lose it will still help our SOS and should still be a solid Top 10.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:32 PM ^
At this point right now, I would say we are at a >50% chance we are 11-0 when we host OSU
October 26th, 2021 at 9:02 PM ^
Hope you are right and I am just being pessimistic, getting to 11-0 seems like about a 25% proposition.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:51 PM ^
Personally, I give us... one chance in three.

One ping only.
October 27th, 2021 at 10:14 PM ^
Most things in here don't react too well to bullets.
October 26th, 2021 at 10:58 PM ^
I'd say more like two in seven
October 26th, 2021 at 11:14 PM ^
What opponent is scaring you that much?
October 27th, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
I know ...Indiana is down to its 5th string QB (3-4th strings guys left program) .msu loses to Indiana without the 11 yard pick 6 and the indiana fumble at its own 17 Maryland lost two of its best offensive weapons, has a horrible OL and might be the worst tackling team in BIG10...PSU has a hobbled QB .no run game and lost its 2 best defensive players for the year (be like Michigan losing Hill and Hutchinson-kinda impact) MSU o-line is below avg and MSU got a ton of timely turnovers early in the year ,literally 4 straight games an opponent fumbled and threw an INT inside its own 40 all 4 games ,setting up MSU for easy 14 points in those games . Im betting Michigan has double digit wins in these 4 games
Michigan 31-20 over MSU
Michigan 31-10 over Indiana
Michigan 27-17 over PSU
Michigan 45-24 over Maryland
October 27th, 2021 at 8:45 AM ^
ESPN FPI is calculating 27.4%. Beating MSU and PSU on the road are tough games that will not allow for many errors (and that includes the refs).
October 26th, 2021 at 10:03 PM ^
Could you imagine if we finally had a team that was 11-0 and we finally get to play OSU at home with a great team? It just seems like every year we have a good team we have to play OSU at their s-hole place (2006 & 2016). I know it’s sad that we only have two instances but it is what it is. If we play those years at home, we beat OSU by multiple scores IMO (which isn’t very valuable). Go Blue!
October 27th, 2021 at 12:22 AM ^
Had this thought as well.
Don’t forget 2018 (though we’d all like to). We marched into Columbus with the same record in ‘18 as in ‘16
October 27th, 2021 at 8:40 AM ^
Ohh, for a quarterback in 2017...
October 27th, 2021 at 6:22 AM ^
I get what you're saying but Im sure it's considerably lower than that. You'd have to be at like 75% win vs MSU and 90% win vs everyone else to get close to 50%. But I'll admit the thought of an undefeated matchup with OSU first popped into my head yesterday - if you can get past MSU, the path certainly seems to be there right now
Weird compared to preseason expectations how much more manageable our schedule became
October 26th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
Feels pretty click-baity.
I mean a dominant game on Saturday could put me half assedly on the bandwagon, but not yet.
October 26th, 2021 at 8:36 PM ^
We should enjoy all of this stuff. If the team makes good, there'll be more to enjoy later. If not, then at least we enjoyed this.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:10 PM ^
Agreed, the "okay but let's wait until we play [x]" mentality is hard to understand. Pretty much every team loses a game eventually, so that can't be the only condition for happiness.
This ranking is a good reminder that most teams have lost a game already. 60 out of 65 power five teams have lost. 121 out of 130 FBS teams. Getting this far has been fun, particularly given the feelings before the season.
October 27th, 2021 at 8:43 AM ^
Until we play...
For the extremely vast majority of us (ie: except only for those that are still calling for Harbaugh's head), that game was Wisconsin. That some people are now saying MSU is a testament to travelling goal posts...
October 26th, 2021 at 8:43 PM ^
Nice. But let's see continued winning this weekend.
Also, it looks like there's believers in Cade McNamara outside the silliness going on about him inside this place.
October 27th, 2021 at 9:27 AM ^
Agreed. A big problem with these media pundits with forecasts is that they are always wrong! If M wins out, M could easily finish #1 in these rankings, or even finish outside of them.
I am all for one game at a time and ignoring this media hype though it's fun to talk about. Too easy to forget that our next opponent is MSU, with PSU and OSU (and Indiana & Maryland) still lurking.
Based on results so far, no reason to not believe in Cade (with JJ in the background)!
October 27th, 2021 at 10:34 AM ^
I think Cade McNamara is being blamed unfairly. Gattis' passing game is more of a paupers passing game than speed in space.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:05 PM ^
Computers definitely like us. #2 behind Georgia in the composite right now:

This is kind of Fantasy land, but whatever.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:37 PM ^
Yes, way, way, way too early to drink such Kool Aid. Let's see Michigan win the big game Saturday. Appreciate you sharing this interesting tidbit from CBS Sports though.
October 26th, 2021 at 9:50 PM ^
Listening to ESPNU this evening on Sirius and Ryan Leaf projected/ predicted the winner of the Michigan - MSU game would be CFP ranked #2 next Tuesday.
October 26th, 2021 at 11:18 PM ^
Hopefully that puts Cincy out of the top 4. They're the weakest top 4 team in a long time.
But the only ranking that matters comes out next Tuesday night. Hopefully those voters have more sense that putting Cincy in the top 4.
October 27th, 2021 at 7:30 AM ^
Iowa-and not very long ago.
October 27th, 2021 at 7:57 AM ^
Iowa would probably beat Cincinnati.
October 27th, 2021 at 8:48 AM ^
I don't think so... Cincinnati is a good team that can play with good P5 teams. Could they succeed in a P5 conference? Probably not at the level they're getting attention at now. Not even in the B1G West! Week in and week out, they just don't have the horses. But in a one-off game (like Notre Dame), yeah, absolutely they can compete.
I'll say it right here - UC would beat the pants off Iowa. Iowa's offense is putrid.
October 27th, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
and Iowa could force 6 turnovers and beat Cincy 24-3...no one is beating the pants off iowa ,esp Cincy ..maybe OSU Bama would but no one else would destroy iowa, they milk the clock and will always get 2 turnovers in any game and sometimes they get 4-5 turnover and no ones winning with 4 turnovers
October 26th, 2021 at 9:55 PM ^
Michigan may not be a top 5 team or maybe not even a top 10 team but this type of press is always good with the young kids/recruits. I remember thinking in the last several years if we could just get a competitive team on the field I would be happy. Well, we have a team that has exceeded expectations so far, won two away games that many thought would not happen and now have the opportunity to play a game at one of their biggest rivals to crack the top 5. BPone is certainly alive around these parts but this team has well exceeded BPone range. Let’s live a little bit this year! I will be at the Indiana game in less than two weeks. I can’t wait to be ranked 4th in the country! Go Blue!
October 26th, 2021 at 9:58 PM ^
Our record looks nice but we haven't beat a single team that is currently in the top 25.
October 26th, 2021 at 10:25 PM ^
We can blame ourselves for that. If we lost to Wisconsin and Wmu they would probably be ranked. Thanks Harbaugh!
October 26th, 2021 at 10:31 PM ^
This made me laugh because it is good logic!
October 26th, 2021 at 11:23 PM ^
Neither has Sparty or OSU. Or OU. UM has beaten whomever was on the schedule - mostly handily.
October 27th, 2021 at 5:34 AM ^
Hell, Sparty hasn’t even played anybody with a winning record
October 27th, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
Wait, what??? Is that true? Holy hell!!!!
I knew they tanked against decent defenses, but I didn't realize they hadn't even played a game against a winning record.
October 26th, 2021 at 10:07 PM ^
It just means that if we win out we're golden.
But as others have said, we really haven't played anyone really good yet. That's fine, but I'm not getting excited about our playoff potential until we win this weekend.
