3 on 3 Basketball added to 2020 Olympics
The Olympic committee just added 3 on 3 basketball to the 2020 Olympics. It sounds like a terrible idea yet I'm intrigued and will definitely watch it. I'm curious to see if NBA players will sign up for this. Per Olympic.org:
Each match lasts a maximum of 10 minutes, with a 12-second shot clock. It is played on half a court, with one hoop. There is no halftime, and no quarters or no time-outs. And it is typically accompanied by non-stop music, DJs and break-dancers. Basketball 3x3 is set to make quite an entrance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“Everybody has fun. The players, the audience, they have a really good time, they are surrounded by music, it’s in the open air,” Dusan Bulut, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 world number one-ranked player, said. “It's global, it’s urban, it’s a show.”

and kind of gimmicky. There has been a fight to get baseball and softball back in and they come up with this?????
True story: Had a friend in undergrad who ran a Slam Ball fan group. Yes, that existed.
This is a terrible idea. I am 100% not joking when I say this, but I think dodgeball would be a way cooler and more popular addition to the Olympics. Can you imagine national rivalries playing out on a dodgeball court? FUCK YEAH!
Duh. Jordan, boviiusly!
The three Jordan's had to wear flip flops and two of the LeBrons had to wear a heel of some kind and the third LeBron wore crocs?

This is unadulterated covfefe!
I thought the NBA was 3X3
At best.
90% of the time it's one-on-one with 8 guys standing around just watching.
I would watch Sri Lanka vs. Chad in the Gold Medal game? Only stipulation is that the games have to be outdoors. If it's indoors, then that's kinda high school gym-like.
If you can't find 5 decent basketball players in your entire country, then you don't get to be a country anymore. Good God, I'm sure the Vatican and Andorra could find 5 people that can dribble a ball! ;-)
The Sixers could beat a team of five decent players from Jamaica. I like competitive basketball and the only was the USA will lose with the professionals is if the best stop playing and the others get disinterested on the court.
As long as the USA keeps sending its best, it will be more of a race to get Silver or Bronze between Spain, France, Argentina and a couple other countries.
Maybe it wasn't my best effort, but my point is that even if you took the worst team in the NBA and put them in the Olympics, they'd still beat the best of most countries. It's one thing for a country to field a basketball team, it's a completely other thing for that team to be competitive.
There's already a #1 3x3 player? When can we get whiffle ball on the docket? Seriously, this sounds ridiculous for an Olympic event.
We always played with a lawn chair as home base. If the pitch hit the chair, it was a strike.
Still no baseball/softball, lacrosse or even cricket? What the hell? Thank god they at least added a version of rugby last time.
Phew, well that's good news. I thought I didn't see it on the official website though?
baseball/softball requires stadium construction that this does not, as does cricket.
Exactly.
They've cast aside 100 years of time-transcending tradition to chase $$$ to make corrupt millionaires even more money.
It's all about schlock now.
3 on 3 figure eight demolition derby is coming soon.
"And competing for the United States...Walter Sobchak and Jeffrey 'The Dude' Lebowski"
I was going to ask if Ultimate Tazer Ball can be far behind, but the official web site is gone. Alas, UTB, we barely knew thee.
Upvote from a fellow former toilet bowl champ!
The Mackers are still around. Nothing like they used to be, though, in my opinion.
Somewhere Gus Macker is smiling.
This has to be a joke right?
This is very dumb but then again sports are kind of silly, so why not?
Most of the swimming event categories are dedicated to less efficient means of getting from point A to point B and we're used to that. We can get used to two forms of olympic basketball.
I just hope the US team starts KD, Kawhi and Draymond or something similarly impossible to deal with.
draymond? I get your trying to go w/ skilled big guys who could guard multiple types of players but draymond?
Why not Paul George? or I dont know, Lebron???
In 2024 they will be adding H-O-R-S-E.
going out with his sister....
It'd have to be played in all 6 of the UN languages. Chinese team would win with a single made basket.
Yes, no matter what your opinion of the event itself, let us commence in the real point of this thread: Who would be the best possible U.S. team?
