2022 safety Myles Rowser to Arkansas

Submitted by Magnus on March 28th, 2021 at 12:41 PM

Belleville (MI) Belleville safety Myles Rowser committed to Arkansas.

Rowser was committed to Michigan at one time and is the brother of Andre Seldon, but he decommitted, transferred to IMG Academy, transferred back to Belleville, and is now headed to a lower tier SEC school.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted.   A little googling shows multiple stories about Seldon having covid.

“COVID, it really hit me this year,” Seldon Jr. said in an exclusive interview with TMI. “I missed a little bit of time, actually a lot of time this year. But I was still learning things about the game and how the program works. And I feel like I gained a lot from this year. Especially this year not counting (towards eligibility). I did gain a lot. Next season I’m ready to put my foot down.”

What was the toughest part of dealing with COVID-19? Well, Seldon Jr. says it start with keeping yourself sharp mentally due to not getting on the field reps.

Sucks about last year, but I'm actually glad to hear it.  We had a major hole opposite Green and I wondered where Seldon was.  This is good news that he could hold down the other CB spot.  I was thinking he just wasn't ready, but maybe it had more to do with missing time than not being ready.  C'mon Seldon!

To sound like Tom Loy for a second, I get the sense Michigan wasn't heavily pursuing him under the new staff, despite being a high-ranked in-state prospect. Good luck to the kid down South

Hey Magnus, thanks for keeping us informed. For Rowser to transfer from one HS to another and then back again, this seems like a guy with commitment issues but I'd like your take on this.

If he's already doing that in HS multiple times, it wouldn't be surprising that he would end up moving around while in college.

I know it's nice for players to have options but life is usually challenging and working through adversity and sticking with a commitment in any form in life builds character too.

Well no, you made a general statement that Magnus agreed with but then pointed out that in this case a guy going to IMG is viewed more favorably because the step up in competition portends someone unafraid of challenges.  But then the pandemic hit and various factors came into play that likely made him go back to Belleville.  Rowser only went to two schools - Belleville and IMG.  He decommitted from UM but, honestly, guys commit and decommit so much now that anyone getting mad at someone for doing so isn't really being fair.

I didn't downvote you but your claim seems based on him being afraid of competition while that doesn't appear to be the case here.

I didn't downvote you but I think you're the one being sensitive. They're just downvotes man.

As others have stated, IMG and covid are two unique factors that could easily explain his transfers. Suggesting "commitment issues" seems like a weird and unnecessary leap to me even if you're just asking the question. But hey, you might be right.

Guys, I don't give a fuck about the downvotes, I'm more annoyed about how someone has to walk on eggshells to have a thought about anything these days.

He committed to Michigan, then decommitted, he switches HS' then switched back, I'm not mad he decommitted from us, I'm actually not crazy about guys who do this at such an early age, it just lends itself as someone who maybe isn't patient enough to see things through. Jordan Fuller and Aubrey Solomon come to mind just to name a couple of guys.

I wish him luck.

I've talked to college coaches who back off of kids who transfer to multiple high schools. They see it as a red flag.

I do think IMG Academy is a different animal, because that's pretty much an unparalleled experience. I wouldn't really have any issue recruiting a guy who transfers to IMG. But if you transfer out or if you play for 3 or 4 different high schools, that's an issue.

I've seen kids in my area transfer for different reasons, and I can only really think of 1 situation where switching schools worked out where it got the kid/parent what they were looking for (a scholarship/better scholarship). That one situation was so a player could play a different position at his new school...and in college, he ended up back at the position he was playing at his original high school.

Most kids transfer because they either a) don't get along with the coach--they/parents think they know better or b) aren't getting the necessary playing time--they/parents think they are better than they are. Either would be a serious red flag in recruiting.

But as stated there are exceptions. I wouldn't fault a QB at Quinn Ewers' school of the same age who chose to transfer to get a chance to play.

The decision tree of committing to Michigan, then decommitting, then committing to Arkansas is a bit unusual. There must be reasons that aren't apparent to the outside world.

Bigger loss for STAEE imo - and the level of in-state player we would prefer they not get.

Seemed like he was looking to go out of state for quite a while.

Good luck young man,

I was hoping that quality of education was a factor in his decision making, but (Arkansas?) it’s apparently not. Best of luck to the kid, though.

Wish the kid the best of luck, but I've sort of soured on Belleville being this untapped pipeline of in-state talent UM should focus on.  Just a lot of guys from that program who don't quite work out.

Well, goodbye Myles, it was fun to have you on the national scene for a while.  But now that you've settled for a second tier P5 program that will remain non-competitive for the foreseeable future, I'll wish you good luck.

Arkansas?!  That isn’t one you hear a lot.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, we only need one Kansas.  (...and one Carolina and one Dakota.)
