OSU Improper Benefits?
As reported by Dave Biddle (@davebiddle). According to his twitter profile, he is "a sports journalist who covers Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketbal for Bucknuts.com."
The tweets:
"Could be some bad news on the horizon for OSU football. Hopefully none of this is true. Will report back when I know more."
"Possible improper benefits. Players meeting with compliance officials today."
EDIT: Just to keep all the relevant info in one spot... subsequent tweets:
"Word is a tattoo artist was giving out free tats in exchange for autographs from OSU players. Again, nothing has been confirmed."
"Just talked to a current player and he is denying that any of this is true. Says he would know about it b/c it would be 'locker room talk.'"
"OSU's sports information department is also denying that any players met with compliance officials today."

How bad could it be. Free tattoos for some autographs. Not exactly Reggie Bush material here if it were true.
Though nothing would please me more than seeing the collective buckeye get zinged, this is hardly anything to get worked up over.

Yeah you know, it's not like it was stretching after practice....*rolls eyes*

How much do tattoos cost?
December 21st, 2010 at 6:33 PM ^
when I saw TP's crazy Buckeye tattoo a couple years ago I thought, man that looks like a really nice one. I wondered where he got the scratch to afford one that sweet. It's colored and very well done, so I would say $350, minimum. Compare that to the Shoegate scandal at Wisconsin in the early 2000s, where some jock-sniffing shoe store owner was giving out sporting goods to guys (probably around the cost of a nice tattoo per guy), and they had to dole out thirty-some suspensions over the course of the first few weeks. They escaped their toughest games and had to sit a ton of guys against Western (I believe), where they lost. They started the season in the top 5.

Often about $100/hour for good work, and decent sized pieces can take a number of hours to complete. It may not sound like a big deal, but it would not be hard to accumulate $500-1000 worth of additional benefits in this manner.

To the NCAA there are Major rules violations, and there are Minor rules violations.
It doesn't matter to the NCAA if it's a $1 sweet tea gained for free @ McDonalds or a free car from your friend at the dealership; improper benefits are improper benefits.

Having to answer questions during their bowl preparation should be at least interesting to watch.
Especially if they ask Pryor about it, you know whatever he says will be gold.
December 21st, 2010 at 3:37 PM ^
Couldn't agree more. Along with the Montana Tech football coach, I enjoy hearing what TP has to say more than pretty much any other college football personality.
"If I had Michigan's or Northwestern's compliance department, I'd be killing these guys' in total rules violations. Whatever, I'm 30-4 since I've been here. I should quit football"

"Research can help us find cheaper shopping supplies."
December 21st, 2010 at 3:49 PM ^
He'd say something like this...
"I know nothing about any improper benefits. My Corvette was paid for by my grandmother...."

Just because the income is fixed doesn't mean it's not huge.
December 21st, 2010 at 4:05 PM ^
It should read more like "One store may have had a pricey type of material one was looking for and the other store you researched was a couple dollars cheaper."
December 21st, 2010 at 4:58 PM ^
Needs moar "everybody."
"One store may have had a pricey type of material one was looking for and the other store you researched was a couple dollars cheaper. Everybody knows I get stuff for the most cheapest price I can cuz with research I researched the price that is the cheaperest."

Hopefully it rises to the level of the Tennessee players getting into that bar for free. That was a secondary violation!
December 21st, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
there is some sort of UM defensive backfield joke to be made here.
something like "No fly zone commits secondary violation"

Regardless of the size and complexity...small irrelevant issues like this open doors into larger, underlying issues. Love it!!!
December 21st, 2010 at 5:10 PM ^
Something tells me that Pryor doesn't use apostrophes on the internet. He would probably use a lot more question marks, too.
Also, I doubt he would be able to figure out this site anyways.

We're forgetting the most important things here. Like whatever happened to Demar Dorsey?

- Word is a tattoo artist was giving out free tats in exchange for autographs from OSU players. Again, nothing has been confirmed yet.
- Possible improper benefits. Players meeting with compliance officials today.
- Could be some bad news on the horizon for OSU football. Hopefully none of this is true. Will report back when I know more.
December 21st, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
-
OSU's sports information department is also denying that any players met with compliance officials today.
- Just talked to a current player and he is denying that any of this is true. Says he would know about it b/c it would be "locker room talk."
December 21st, 2010 at 9:36 PM ^
is pretty confident he knows what all 104 of his teammates are up to all the time.
December 21st, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
Edit: Beat me. But I agree, there is nothing else to say than to deny it at this point. We'll see what happens.
December 21st, 2010 at 3:19 PM ^
If its free tats, that's pretty lame. I hope its free gold rims for their 67 Mustangs.
