24 hours is up...time to concentrate on Iowa
I'm sure you've all heard the "coach-speak" regarding the 24-hour rule: enjoy (or in our case, sulk) for 24 hours and then start preparing for the next opponent. Nothing can change what happened yeterday, we can only control what happens next.
Next is a good (not great) Iowa team.
4-1 on the season with their only loss being on the road at Arizona (who lost last night to Orgeon State.)
- 33.6ppg
- 426ypg/avg
- 1271 pass yds/861 rush yards
- 46.7% 3rd down conversion
They are know, of course, for their defense which is currently ranked at or near the top in points and yards yielded.
I was as nervous for the State game as I was when I was playing. I can only imagine how the players felt. You find out a lot about yourself after a loss like yesterday. I'm quite confident the team gets focused, settles down, works their asses off, and comes into the game this Saturday with a nice big chip on their shoulder.
Your thoughts?

Ever since the begining of the year, I felt that we could win this game and I still think that. I dont know why, I just think sometimes you match up better against certain teams. That game last year at Iowa makes me think we are going to pull this one out.
October 10th, 2010 at 9:55 PM ^
same thoughts hear....I looked at schedule and knew the MSU game would be tough..we had the Iowa game and blew it...hopefully (theres that hope word) we limit the mistakes and beat Iowa...
I like our chances against Penn St and Purdue...we have Illinois at home and we match up against Wisconsin it seems every year...OSU well its at the horseshoe
8-4 or bust!!

Felt the same way about Sparty, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

I'm about to freak out, Michigan and the Lions have a bye week the same weekend. I might accomplish more that weekend than what I have the previous year.
October 11th, 2010 at 9:14 AM ^
-1 to whomever decided on that schedule. I blame Millen!
FWIW, there's a a Wings game on that Saturday, in Detroit, against the Ducks, so maybe your weekend won't be as productive as you thought. HOORAY for hockey!

team will come back from this. losing may be the best thing for this team at this point. i think this team will have a huge chip on its shoulder as all the pundits will be saying this week that this is what happened a year ago. but im almost certain that this team is not the same as lat year. i think we are in for a special season and we may have some ups and downs.
now ultimately iowas schedule wasnt tough. the combined record is 8-16. Our advantage this week will be balance on on the o side of the ball. we cany afford not to execute this week and i think once denard gets a good look at some negative film he will learn to get back to what got us to 5-0 and that is to take what is given and not to force anything. one thing is certain i bet he doesnt hesitate as much this week. when he sees a crease he has to take it. i think this week will be special.
on the d side of the ball please get obi ezeh out and lets someone else. we need a player that attemps to show instincts and tries to fill gaps. im also ready for will campbell. its obvious that we are not disciplined on defense. but if we can limit big plays and we all know stanzi is good for a few bad balls we can try to take advantage of we can really get after iowa.
its important as fans to remember last year after the o-sate game the comments made by b.graham. he said this team is hard working and michigan would be back. i remember and emotional roy roundtree who wasl crying at the posium. this team cares and the people who didnt belong and left will look back and say this group was special and they didnt belong for whatever the reason. go blue from columbus ohio. and believe the buckeye fans i work with will never let me hear the end of it and o-sate is number 1. but guess what they still have to play us and we can get a lot better by sept 27th.

I'm curious if Gerg calls an aggressive defense or plays it soft and conservative like against Indiana. I guess it's pick your poison.
October 10th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
I'm heading to Ann Arbor for the Iowa game and I've been looking forward to this since July. I've got on-the-field passes, great seats, my eye on a triple with cheese at Blimpy Burger before the game (maybe a quint?), the victor's walk, and hopefully some great weather.
Best weekend of the year = this weekend. It's time to move past this sinking feeling, and get on with it. Beat Iowa - Go Blue!
October 10th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
Get a quint with egg cheese and bacon. You will not be disappointed.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
Dead maybe, but not disappointed
October 10th, 2010 at 11:10 PM ^
I've had that before. Halfway through I felt my heart slowing down and my blood pressure dropping.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:05 PM ^
This will be a very tough game. Iowa's Dline is awesome and Stanzi has improved his decision making.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
It's a huge game, no doubt about it.
The team (and Denard especially) will have to forget the loss and move on. The tough part is that Iowa is similar to MSU, and I don't think the coaches are going to want the players reviewing film from a demoralizing loss. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
This game could end up deciding the season: Win, then go to the bye week and settle in for the stretch run. Lose, and the team could really start to question itself, and memories of 2009 start creeping in.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
I truly believed this was going to be the year that we finally end their two year streak and shut them up for the rest of the year but sadly I was wrong. I'm not trying to be negative and I don't like nor want to be but this game has really brought back my fears from 2009. I just want to see us out for blood and a victory this Saturday. All we want is a bowl, is that so much to ask for all the pain we have suffered through?
October 10th, 2010 at 10:09 PM ^
I think back to the Iowa game last year when a very different Denard couldn't quite push us past a supposedly stout Iowa team on their home turf.
I'm sure Denard remembers that game and I know he's going to be focused on producing a different outcome.
With that in mind and hopefully at least one Stanzi pick-six special, I'm liking our chances here.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:12 PM ^
eats at me the most because we had such a great chance to pull out that upset! We picked off Stanzi and ran it back for a td, controlled the ball almost that entire 1st half and scored quickly and often. Everything in the beginning was going our way and then we just collapsed. It was almost like we were too tired or not in the same zone that we entered the game in mentally. It's one that we let slip through our fingers. We can't let that happen again this year.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
The Stanzi can make mistakes if he is pressured.
Never trust a guy that has the same name as a foreign car!
October 10th, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
Well, unfortunately that was the same line about Cousins (not the foreign car thing.) Gonna take more than that to beat Iowa.
October 10th, 2010 at 11:09 PM ^
Stanzi seems more of a game manager. If I had to pick, I'd take Cousins over Stanzi.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:14 PM ^
we had a chance to win, damnnn i hate are little brother!!!We need to put that lose behind us and get ready for homecoming.Go Denard and Michigan,we need this game!!!!
October 10th, 2010 at 10:17 PM ^
We need a good mix of pass and run. If they bring their LB to line DROB will need to throw. Hopefully the passing game will be back on track. If our offense plays well we could outscore IA. I hope we can get the upset win! That would sort of make up for losing to sparty!
October 10th, 2010 at 10:26 PM ^
just what Michigan needs to jump start that confidence they are lacking right now. This win has a great amount of potential of being a season changer! These guys need something to believe in right now and an upset over Iowa is the perfect solution!
October 12th, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
that the lack of confidence lies within some M Fans, not the players themselves! one cannot speak for the players lack of confidence unless they have themselves heard them speak. not attacking but making a point that most of what you here in this blog is fan insecurities not player insecurities. Trust that RR and staff (especially the dog days/hours of Barwais workouts) have prepared them mentally! also to mention they who were here for last year are a year older, wiser, stronger, more talented, etc. GO BLUE beat iowa!
October 10th, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
I know it 's tough on the players, but I know they'll get over the loss and move on. With mistakes and poor execution this is what happens. I'm headed to the Big House for Iowa, I wanted to see [I bought the tickets before the season] what I thought would be the best team UM would face at home this year. I think we will win this game, Homecoming, and they've never lost when I attend a game, including Wisc. '08. If they win, I'll try to make every game.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:33 PM ^
I'll be making my lone trip to the Big House this weekend, so my thoughts are that I'll see a W or it's going to be a long drive back to South Carolina.
October 10th, 2010 at 10:45 PM ^
A bounce back win stops the negativity before it can fester.
Let's look to our next opponent as a example of hope.
Kirk Ferentz started 1-10, 3-9, and 7-5 in his first 3 years at Iowa.
The next 3 years after that he went 11-2, 10-3, and 10-2.
Lets go boys. Circle the wagons!
October 10th, 2010 at 10:50 PM ^
Iowa is so dead. We're gonna put up 49 points on them. Book it
October 11th, 2010 at 1:16 AM ^
but um, OK.
October 12th, 2010 at 12:11 PM ^
but pessimism and negativity is retarded! did lil bro put up 48? has anyone else? you have a picture of a wolverine, i would think your optimism would be more, well, tenacious! let us be positive as fans because we know the struggles will be tough this year! GO BLUE beat iowa!
October 10th, 2010 at 11:02 PM ^
The lessons are learned from the loss and the team moves forward. Not worrying about things you can't control is one of the best lessons anyone can learn.
<br>Me, I understand that I must not have been loud enough Saturday. I'll get that fixed. And I'll be in EL next year when they can do something about it, dressed in M gear from head to toe. It's been much too long since I've been out there. I'm going to buy fuckin' pants
October 10th, 2010 at 11:03 PM ^
game until gameday. I'm too busy getting drunk on sunday night for the Lions win!!!! :-P
