Joe Milton maturing in '4-way tie' battle at quarterback (The Michigan Insider)
"I think right now, after spring ball… I think it’s like a 4-way tie," Milton said. "I don’t know if anybody’s leading right now. Because like, I don’t want to hype myself up over nobody else, but I think it’s a tie right now."Adding:"It’s a 4-way tie. Competition’s going to be strong in the fall. So, just gotta fight for it."
AHHHHHHHHHHHH
I want it to be for the backup spot. So far under Harbaugh, we haven't gone into a season with a clear-cut returning starter at QB that no one is going to unseat.
McCaffrey is better than Peters.
Is practice buzz. McCaffrey has yet to take a single snap in a real game, so we really don't know how good he will be when the money is on the table.
His high school football and basketball team won State Championship. Players on both the football and basketball team said he was the leader.
If he can be refined, he can be akin to Cam Newton. There I said it.
Except Cam Newton is bigger, much faster and much more shifty. I don't see very many similarities between Milton and Newton.
They're both practically the same height and Cam has 20-25lbs on Milton. Joe's not done growing either.
Joe is more of a dropback QB, but I'd settle for Speight-level escapability.
But Andre Ware won a Heisman.
"Don't want to give away the playbook" thing is just lame. Lots and lots of teams go into their first game with a clear-cut starter at QB, and it doesn't do them any harm. Besides, teams are not going to be able to "scout" our practices, and even if they could, it's not as if our offense is going to be significantly different in scheme no matter who we start. If we had a pro-style passer and a option runner competing for the starting job, and would run totally different offenses depending on who started, then it might make sense to keep the starter under wraps, but that's not the case with us.
You put your best guy out there, and say "here we are...try to beat us"
Identify the Mike, tho?
The O line Great.
Whole lotta coach speak there. I've missed it. But at no point should Joe Milton even suit up for a game this year.
unless he were clearly the best QB to start the season, which he isn't going to be. Even if he were 2nd going into the season (also highly unlikely), we're not going to be pulling our starter until a game is out of reach, at which point, it shouldn't matter if we play our third or fourth stringer instead of our second. Use the guys who have already burned their redshirts (who should be adequate backups), and give Milton the free year to develop without the pressure of game performance.
I can understand some lack of enthusiasm about Peters, who did not impress when given a chance, but Milton hasn't even gone under the banner yet.
may the best of the best ( 4 guys) earn the playing spot. i am sure jh will play the best man no matter who it is. he HAS to win this year. fan base it asking the same question.
I wouldn't taken it as a given that Harbaugh will play the best man. He played JOK before Peters.
Patterson - 1st
Peters - 2nd
McCaffrey - 3rd
Milton - Redshirt (no question about this)
Milton would have to be supremely awesome to beat any of those 3 out and burn his redshirt.
McCaffrey might be 2nd.
Yeah, you have to be high on somehting to think Joe Milton is 2nd string.
Joe Milton has a very tough job ahead of him beating out Patterson, McCaffrey, and Peters. It will not get any easier if Cade McNamara does indeed sign with Michigan next year. But it's true, he's working very hard.
Most don't know about the toughest team Joe Milton faced when he was a high school senior, just 7 months ago, a team named Winter Park, and what his stats were in that game. He was 8 for 30, 96 yds, 0 TDs, 4 INTs, 000.8 QB rating.

I'm not sure of your meaning.
Shea will start at Notre Dame barring an injury. However, injuries happen and I won't be surprised when Peters steps in during the season and we dont miss a beat. Shea isnt the biggest of guys and with our questionable O-Line and the physical nature of the Big Ten, i think its likely we will see our #2 start multiple games this year.
"I don’t want to hype myself up over nobody else, but I think it’s a tie right now."
Replace "maturing" with "uses poor judgment".
He's young. It happens.
