That's a good question that I have wondered myself. Never took time to research it or heard an answer from someone who knows.

Under the rules of regular student-athlete transfers, the release is only for scholarship purposes. If you don't get a release to a particular school you can still go there and play as a walk-on, you just have to pay tuition for a year.

He can play this fall, and has two years available. Someone may get a pretty good QB, and two years of him. If Haskins goes down, OSU may have a problem at QB with a RS freshman backing him up.

I mean Martell is a solid recruit, it isn't an ideal situation but what this means is Haskins clearly won the job coming out of spring and given his limited play so far and the fact that he beat out Burrows the guess is he is really damn good, which is annoying. I would rather Burrows thought he continued to have a shot at starting due to Haskins struggling in spring and them having better depth behind a worse starter.

I agree-it’s super concerning how good Haskins will be based on all the information you’re guessing blindly on. Fuck, I wish I wasn’t so concerned about this future event that no one knows what the outcome will be but is very concerning nonetheless.

Most games are a pretty small sample size individually, but he played in 8 games while logging just 1 game with a QB rating below 160. He threw 2 passes in that game and completed 1.

For reference Peters played 6 games and logged 1 game with QB rating over 160.

That’s extremely generous and that point should only be made by extreme buckeye fans. Peters started in and played entire games against tough competition. Haskins played sparingly in 8 games, throwing 4 or fewer passes in half of them, only throwing more than 8 passes once. You’ll have to excuse me if I’m not sold on his QB rating over 160 in his 3 pass attempts for 25 yards against Nebraska. The game hinging on how Peters plays as the starter is light years different than coming in for a series when you’re up by 20

The writing has been on the wall for Burrow since the second half of the Michigan game. After watching Haskins surgically carve Michigan's secondary up I can't imagine how Meyer could give the job to anyone other than him.

Figures that for OSU, even injuries to their own players somehow work to their benefit....yeah I'm still bitter if you didn't notice.

Matt Burrell, third string RS Jr guard. Burrow said he should have something to report on his next school in a few weeks. I was hoping he would stay for the competition (iron sharpens iron) or the depth. A great kid and wish him the best. Some team will get a very good QB. I’ve heard UF, and of course the Nebraska rumors. Still, happy the situation is resolved and now move forward and prepare for the season. I think it’s funny how some consider a third stringer winning a Big Ten and national championship and the back up winning The Game last year as some sort of Buckeye luck. I understand that when your team is now entering its fourth straight season of the “QB whisperer” era and having to rely yet again on a transfer QB, after the prior era of WR as QB, it can be difficult to fathom that it is possible to evaluate, recruit, and develop QBs in a system and have success. Luck isn’t involved at all.

But since you went all QB whisperer/transfer shit talking on us, do you think Haskins will be the first QB Urban puts in the NFL who sticks as a QB since Alex Smith, who he didn’t even recruit? Oh and remind me who turned Smith’s career around again?

Don't tell me that you guys count Tom Brady Super Bowl wins as Michigan wins.  You don't claim Andrew Luck as yours do you?

Who cares about how Urban's QBs have done in the NFL.  The only stat that matters is his 6-0 record vs Michigan.  Tressel's QBs sucked in the NFL too.  But who cares.  What was the sweater vest's record in The Game?  Something like 10-1 I think.

Let's just say that Ohio State being #2 all time to USC in number of first round NFL draft picks and the total number of Ohio State NFL draft picks since 2012 (surpassed only by Bama and LSU, I believe) speaks for itself.

I can only imagine how pathetic your life is. I'm sure watching teenagers play with a ball on a field is a good distraction from the trailer park, but please don't take it out on us. This board is already terrible enough as is without cooler poopers beating their chest about a school they didn't attend being good at ballsports.

to you sir.  That was a good Internet body slam.  Lol.

I don't live in a trailer park and never attended a prestigious public university.  I do much prefer college football over the flag-disrespecting NFL variety, but I'm also a Browns fan.

We all know Tom's numbers and you're right, what he does at NE reflects on the school but is not part of our tradition. However, part of your's, a large, very large part is the number of violations The Vest tallied. And what does your piss for a brain qb do during the Car Gate in Columbus. Duh, the cameras are here. I think I'll show them this new car I'm driving this fucking month. I mean the decision of the more prestigous program - win within the rules - is over the second you ask yourself, UM or OSU? Now kindly get the fuck out of here and don't you ever come back.

"many have speculated on Nebraska, but he would most likely have to pay his way there."

Is it really that big of a deal for a kid to pay his own tuition? Most of us took on student loans for four years or more. I'd think he could manage to pay for two semesters himself if Nebrska presented the best transfer opportunity.

shows that to attend Nebraska out of state with room and board would be close to 40k.  You're saying its better for him to do that for 2 years rather then go to another school where it could/should be free?  That makes zero sense.  Plus hes a pocket qb, Frost does not run a traditional pro style offense.

Has been the best QB this year’s and last year’s Spring Game. But who cares, Spring Games are practice. Haskins was the best QB in the Big House last November and that’s why he won the job.

This when O’Korn shined against Purdue. Often new QBs do well when inserted mid game mid game since the defense has no idea what they’re like. Also, some of his long plays were lucky (the td run, a long throw covered well, etc.).

Scioto

There it is again.  Sorry, but that's a loser's mentality dude.  That throw to Austin Mack wasn't luck.  That was a back shoulder laser into double coverage where only the WR could catch it.  The 22 yard run was a good read of the DE.  And come on, you can't be seriously comparing Michigan's defense to Purdue's defense.  Weren't you guys top 3, maybe #1, last year whereas Purdue was what, maybe top 50?

You make a very good point, however.  It's easy for Ohio State fans to read way too much into Haskins' Michigan game performance given his mid-game insertion.  As Catchafire mentions below, my biggest concerns with Haskins is once Big Ten DCs get film on him and start to game plan, then we'll see how good he is.  But the same can be said for Burrow and Patterson and is the reason why Saban is working hard to keep Hurts from transferring.  Tagovailoa looked great, but also real bad, in the second half of the championship game, but UGA had no film on him.

If you compare JTB's TD to INT ratios from first half of the season to second half the last two years, it really declines precipitously.  Part of that is becasue his legs were shot by second half of the year, but the other was DCs had the film on him.  Going into the Iowa game last year, JT had thrown 25 TDs to 2 INTs.  Everyone knows what happened at Iowa and I think he threw something like 8 TDs to 8 INTs the second half of the year.

I feel good about Haskins.  He's talented.  His ability to excel in the vertical passing game is going to stretch the field, something we haven't had since Jones rolled over Wisky, Bama, and Oregon.  This will also benefit Dobbins and Weber, as it did Zeke.  And he's been in the system now going into his third year.  Patterson is equally, perhaps more, talented, but he's a transfer who will have to learn a new system.  Something not easy for a college QB, and a system that is noted for its NFL-like complexity in calls and reads for the QB.  He hasn't had to do that running the spread system at Ole Miss.

At least admit that the world knows that refs,”cheat everywhere for OSU!” Your road games even have refs from Ohio! I would admit that shit if I was to mosey on over lost on another teams board! Stevie Wonder saw the hold on the Haskins td run. Sad thing is we’ll probably always have to beat all 14 or so players on the field to beat you all!

Like most college football fans, are greatly underestimating the randomness in college football. It’s easy to overlook when the you’re on the winning end of a few close plays. Like a gambler, you’ll rationalize on why your team got those plays.

Not to mention the uncalled holds that helped... sigh.

I don't doubt for a second that Haskins will be a highly capable QB, but anyone who thinks he's just going to walk all over Don Brown's defense is mistaken. Going by recent trends, the Buckeyes should be very worried if Michigan figures out how to put up some points this upcoming season.
