Louisville appeal denied, must vacate 2013 national championship
Retroactive national champions, anyone?
I know that's not the way it works, but it's kind of annoying that we lost to a team that cheated.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:02 PM ^
But we don't.
February 20th, 2018 at 9:23 PM ^
the loss is vacated
The NCAA just doesn't allow us to claim a win.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
Should apply Miss America rules: if the winner, for whatever reason, cannot fulfill their duties the first runner up shall take their place.
And oh yes, screw the NCAA.
February 20th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Michigan should have covered Luke Hancock better before the close of the 1st half.
February 20th, 2018 at 12:58 PM ^
True, but irrelevant.
Louisville should have guarded Spike better in the first half. -- Also true, but irrelevant.
February 20th, 2018 at 7:39 PM ^
if only Kate Upton responded to Spike's tweets. . .
February 20th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
If I remember correctly, that dude should have fouled out more than once, and they kept giving his fouls to other players, allowing him to stay on the court and keep draining 3's. The Block wasn't even the worst call of that game. It was a disaster all around.
February 20th, 2018 at 7:34 PM ^
Hancock fouled someone, it was assigned to someone different which kept him from fouling out. He then proceeded to a) draw a critical 4th foul on McGary and b) hit another 3, both of which were huge in a close game
February 20th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
The refs should also have reported the foul on Hancock too instead of the other player. He would have had 4 fouls if they report the correct player for a phantom foul from another player. The refs sure had a poor evening during this game.
February 20th, 2018 at 2:51 PM ^
I don't think the refs had a 'poor' evening, I think it was quite lucrative.
February 20th, 2018 at 12:57 PM ^
February 20th, 2018 at 12:57 PM ^
And so is our program.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
Hoist the damn banner. Make the NCAA say something.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
It's official: Nobody went further in that tournament than us.
February 21st, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^
Any dude that would be all on another man's nuts like this is a fucking chump. I wish McGary would have turned around and punched that sum bitch in the neck.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:07 PM ^
Fuck Louisville
Fuck the NCAA
Can’t wait for the FBI to blow the doors off college basketball....
February 20th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
The block was clean, but I may be in the minority here: no banner should be hung.
Louisville may have used some slimeball recruiting tactics to get the guys it did, but they weren't juicing before the game. They didn't spike Michigan's gatorade bottles to make the team sick before the game. There was no unfair ON-COURT advantage that they had over Michigan. They were just the better team that night.
Not by much, and a call here or there may have swung the title to Michigan. But it is what it is. There's no guarantee that we would've won even if the foul wasn't called on Burke's block. We were still down by at least three at that point if memory serves.
Pitino is a scumbag, and I will curse Luke Hancock's name for the rest of my days. But they were just better that night.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Personally, I don't disagree at all with the reasoning, and I still want to see the banner hung.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:43 PM ^
Seconded.
February 20th, 2018 at 2:16 PM ^
Have you ever tried to play basketball after partying with hookers? Or tried coaching after a sultry evening with the waitress at the local Italian restaurant? How can we say for sure those activities didn't contribute to the outcome of the game?
February 20th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Cheating in composing your team is as bad as cheating in game.
February 20th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
If one school is paying its recruits in cash and hookers to join it, and the other school isn't, that's not a clean fight.
February 20th, 2018 at 9:18 PM ^
The ill-gotten players of the team who are ON THE COURT is not an unfair advantage?
February 20th, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
So does Rick Pitino write "vacated" under or through his tattoo?!?!
Michigan is the Champs. Hang the banner, get the team their rings, make a statement!
February 20th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
He should get a second tattoo of an arrow pointing down above his tailbone that says "enter here".
February 20th, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
Fuck Louisville. So glad we got that last tourney win against them.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
Officials by Adidas
February 20th, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
to the father of a 5 star recruit. Interesting. i bet that's not an isolated event at Louisville.
February 20th, 2018 at 1:31 PM ^
Hang that thing and bring the team back for the ceremony. I bet they'd all show up.
Same with the fab 5 banners.

February 20th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in the Olympics, a silver medalist can retroactively get the gold if the gold medalist is stripped of the medal due to doping or some other disqualifying event after the fact.
So, I would like to see that applied here.

February 20th, 2018 at 1:58 PM ^
We are the Champions dammit!
February 20th, 2018 at 2:18 PM ^
I was at the game. The Louisville fans behind me screaming that Trey Burke was "cheating" because he came up injured a few times....well, isn't that some fucking irony.
February 20th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
and their trash program. Hang the banner!
February 20th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
Coach B continues to be the model that all programs should aspire to; especially with some imminent FBI justice. It is great to be a program that people respect for the right reasons. With him taking the high road like today on the show, it just increases people's respect of him and our program. Everything comes to light in the end. When you lead with character, you have nothing to be afraid of. I am proud of that 2013 team; losing that game to a cheating institution with a dirty head coach and some very terrible reffing will always hurt. But that UM team was special and always will be! (TB consensus national POY, unforegettable shot against Kansas, etc.) How fitting that just 4 yrs later, Coach B handed Rick Pitino a loss in his final game coaching ever. And then 1 year after that, the national championship is taken away by the NCAA. Also, we have to love that Coach B has more impeccable character then Dantonio yet he will not say something like, "The righteous shall prevail, and pride comes before the fall". Message to Dantonio: actions speak louder than words. This is another great day to be a Michigan Wolverine. We don't need the default banner; we win them on the court and we win them the right way.
Go blue!

I just read the story online what bothers me most is they never even mentioned Michigan in the story

So the polls should reflect that Michigan is the #1 team in the country at the end of the 2013 season. Michigan may not be able to claim the NCAA tournament championship but the team could claim a National Title and it would not be inaccurate.

February 20th, 2018 at 8:45 PM ^
And while we are at it, hang the Fab Five banners.
