Dedication It's not as if every OOSer is a cash cow. Also, for that "empty seat loyalty test", couldn't the converse be just as true? That since we regular folk OOSers chose to bear a much heavier price (and corresponding increased pain) to go to UM, perhaps it could mean that much more to us?
find myself binge watching shows like air crash investigations or crime documentaries before flights, alone at the hotel. (Not kidding). some how, they are kind of relaxing.
kettle black well, Loyola is a D-1 school, and chose to willingly assume all of the not small cost in terms of coin and effort that takes to be D-1. It's clearly not like D-3 Williams mentioned in the post yesterday or former Big Ten Univ of Chicago which chose to move to D-3. Relatively speaking, Loyola is (by choice) a big money school but may not be as successful in its big money pursuits. That professor it seems lost his perspective a bit.
easy to spend someone else's money. it's only from taxpayers after all.
different banner? I think I get it that if Louisville is vacated, it doesn't mean Michigan are national champs, but it's also not correct we are runner-up since then semantically, to whom? would it not be more accurate to have say a banner which states for example "Top Finisher (or team or whatever) NCAA National Championship 20xx"?
mirror past but wasn't an issue from the BH era the opposite - very highly ranked recruits but poor coaches?
kicked upstairs? "Upgrades" in title don't necessarily indicate a real expansion of actual responsibility. Especially if there is no corresponding increase in remuneration, it may indicate the opposite. May well be nothing to be concerned about.
Level up! Ok, maybe there were 2 basement levels. we were pretty deep down, even to MAC worry levels, at least we are out of that level!
Progress Optimism may erll be a reasonable perspective to take. It may be a reflection of our suddenly heightened expectations but it seems there are really 2 separate steps. First, beat the teams you're supposed to beat without question and be competitive with strong teams. second, beat those strong teams too. it took a couple of years to wash off the gnawing back of the mind worries from the Toledo types of opponents, and now we are clearly moving on to the second task.
world cup 2018 can't wait for ESPN's analysis for the USA vs Italy matchup coming up too next summer!
aims of higher education well that's why he has that degree to fall back on! Oh wait ..
totally agree! and in a way, while i went to michigan, those who chose to support michigan but maybe didn't have the opportunity to go there, they may be even truer blue as they made a choice. although now is a time of loss, gaving a friendship like that you had is really so precious and special. Go Blue!
perspective uh, I've been a Chicagoan and Cub fan for over 50 years...
senior management accountability fumbled.
strip it down weather? both teams played in it. young team cuz players leaving for the nfl? msu had a bunch kicked off or jailed or whatever. worse players? We have stars, they have basically scraps. One side of senior management performed well (D), the other (O), didn't. setting aside the above, seems the area for change is clear - it's not like there is a shortage of offense side coaching talent out there.
meritocracy offense has been very underwhelming. time for a change at oc.
One more ask we need the D to score...
friendly skies We don't bat an eyelash hurtling at 20000 ft on a thin metal tube on autopilot. I guess we are used to the sheeple beatdowns from that mode already.
double hit hire a bunch of additional security, impose a very stiff fine for out of bounds drunkenness after night games, enforce very tightly. Then after the field whooping, they'd leave AA much lighter in hope and wallet too.
Brother's keeper... but if we have the money anyway (assuming its dedicated fresh funds for this purpose not taking away from the academic side at all), why not? Should we not spend for say a state of the art weight room because some smaller marginal school can't afford to keep up the costs to be at the forefront of D-1? If they can't keep up, nothing wrong to not be in D-1.
hmm, if there's an alternate meaning, it must be a flip coming. A line of train car... must be a linemen!
consequences Being under an intense public microscope in a game that is so anal with an intricate and extensive rulebook that have huge consequences can make you naturally more aware of how fraught boundaries which may or may not be as fuzzy for others are, and more wary to be ultra cautious. I guess thats why Bo had curfews and bedchecks.
there are indeed countries where 'justice' is meted outside of courts. I'm not sure we want to compare ourselves to Afghanistan though.
real rivals at least 2 of them could be from our real rivals at Illinois and Rutgers...
'the school experience' one floated position is that a degree is so important and that the college experience can only be done once. As a fan it would,be great if he comes back but id feel personally selfish if he does. Very few degrees can translate so immediately for millions and he could always come back for a degree. (i have 4 degrees including from UM and i could only wish that translation held!) As for the experience, it seems student athletes have such tremendous demands on their time and restrictions due to the ncaa, that he'd get a much deeper and fuller (even 'enrichening') college experience coming back later to complete a degree.
me too will be there (with divided family too)
inexorable 2 years ago, there were 2 thumper bad loss games. last year, one was one thumper bad loss, one a shoulda-won-burn. this year, there was one should-won-burn, and one as-it-should-be. next year, both should be in the right column. righting wrongs a grim step at a time.
finish strong yes, close out the season with a great momentum -gaining beat down like we did last year to Florida. (turkey us not a comment on the situation in Texas)
why? i also thought it was a neat little thing to be informed of and am glad the,OP shared it. I can see may not be everyone's cup of tea but not getting why if someone doesnt like these they dont just skip reading it. Seems theres no shortage of cannibalizing unpleasantness around anyway in places like rcmb...
overseas? do the ncaa proposed rules extend to say london, tokyo or australia? those places have great facilities too and the biz snd pr value eould be very positive. aldo, if students would like a paid trip to florida, theres plenty of other vacation spots too.
substitutes Took a look at RCMB and noticed that the posters there use a lot of those prepackaged animated emojis in place of writing in expressed text. Surely the students there do not use those things in their academic submissions too...
and then? i havent followed this in all the details but after McQ allegedly tried to report it (after a day of mulling it over), and then paterno/police/etc refused to listen, then what happened? did he just shrug his shoulders and go get some lunch and head to the gym? the next 'development' was a while later? i havent followed the timeline well but was it like months or years passed? on a vusceral level hes a firmer LB so at least physically, i dont assume he lived his life cowering in bodily fear. in the meantime life just went on day by arendt-like banal day?
10 of 25 from sec id really be surprised if that was for academic expenditures.
thats awesome that sonething good came out of that, well thing. time to make the stars right this year!
whose idea was this? can't imagine what kind of commemorative event (big, small, long, brief, whatever), would not generate anything but tremendous and deserved negatives for psu. things like this only refreshes the image it casts as a dark, dark place. i really dislike osu and msu and want to see then crushed, want rutgers to get slapped around for their cockiness, etc, but at the least I think of them as football opponents, but when I see psu, I know it's not the players but somehow it all feels very different and disturbing.
homesure, moes not so easy to see or recall on mobile app.
I mean invite my question is in the vein of do they invite only a very select few who almost all vome, or do they invite say anyone with an offer or interest (which I assume to be in the hundreds) and then winnow it down?
invitee list curious but id,assume you have to get a special invite as a recruit but generally, how many do they incite?
early lead it may only be like an early lead in the first quarter and there's plenty of time left in the game before NSD etc etc - but anyway it's always better to be ahead... Great news!
value-added: funny video post looked interesting enough to read and I got to say I enjoyed seeing that whiney video. When we play them if the guy is a backup then, wouldn't having seen this video will add an extra bit of backstory merriment?
globally? note dame is a church in paris. there's a school too?
de facto full ride? don't the ivies pretty much give comprehensive financial aid to the point where it could be even more than a so-called full ride? Also, since those are not 'ncaa governed scholarships' they may even come with less restrictions too. it's not like for Harvard, the interest alone on their endowment is enough for every student to go for free anyway. dayum.
take it to the bank for those who try to just say Harbaugh's success has been a series of luck, then it has been a pretty consistent series lof luck. I'd expect any TN whiner would be happy to go to Vegas with someone with such 'consistent luck' like that!
that alone don't know much about him but sounds pretty humble to go watch another practitioner to possibly learn something. ya never know...
+two... or even +4? mebbe the idea is to transition an 'entrenched' east team to the west for a west team no one has strong feelings associated in either, so that later Purdue could switch back west (along with say Indiana), when 2 more east coast teams are added to the Big Ten as the next wave of expansion...
but... that assumes that sec football student/athletes need a real break from all the 'combined' studying and practicing they do term-time.
hard choices... so this is what Jones was referring to in an earlier post as 'hard choices'? Wonder what a parent feels like with someone like that sitting in their living room trying yo get their kid...
easier? I'd supposed then dealing with the FBI would be much easier than dealing with some 'Ministry of Rightful Thinking', especially if set company policies are in place for that sort of thing. in that case, is this whole media storm old beentheredonethat news?
cats out Actually, maybe the path may be to go even more extreme the other way... The real Pandora's box is not Apple and the FBI but rather what should Apple etc do when faced with demands for 'cooperation' from not so nice govts or entities? (seems that's the next step since the issue is now out of the bag). Rather than a court order, such types may simply resort to physical violence (even routine torture such as to the local company rep) or coercion (such as blackmail or actual blocking markets worth billions). Rather than clamoring in the news (which only highlights this vulnerability to those not-so-nice types watching), perhaps one direction is to remove all marketing of privacy etc and go total open access - but allow each person to buy customized security packages from third party vendors (which surely will pop up once that biz opportunity is there). The 'principle' here is not confidentiality itself but rather whether such privacy regulator is a feature at the original equipment supplier level - or some other level. I can't imagine how the ceo would feel when it's not a DOJ order he's taking a stand against but rather the crying family of an ordinary sales rep overseas who is being 'jailed' until apple assists strongman X.
chairman speaks Actually this post's smackdown point is the info that he is the chairman of the infractions comm. Really is a big exclamation point, that the hypocrisy is so so so blatant. Before, one could have kinda sorta maybe thought he may be just a teeny bit naive or clueless but this so overtly just hits that he is an incredibly unctuous sleezeball.
