National Signing Day open thread
Welcome to National Signing Day. It's time for faxes to start rolling in.
Do we keep Otis Reese? That seems to be the only big question of the day.
Here's the official NSD webpage from MGoBlue:

At this point in time, I think the staff needs to fire off a bunch of last minute offers to any remaining unsigned 3 star OTs, for any remaining scholarship slots. At least take a shot at it. It won't make a difference for the '18 or '19 seasons, but I'm really concerned about the effects our lack of OL depth for 3-4 years down the road.
February 7th, 2018 at 9:56 AM ^
we still have 5 OL from the 2017 class
we have 2 in 2018
1 already in 2019
I would say we need at least 3-4 in 2019 total
we lost 2 OL this year - Cole and Kugler - along with Hall who transferred out of the big 2017 class
the sky isn't falling geez

3 years down the road is when Ruiz and Spanellis are Seniors and Steuber, Honigford, Filiaga, and Hudson are Juniors.
Plus who knows what happens in 2019/2020 cycles?
There are a lot of young bullets in the chamber right now and even Vastardis looks like he might become functional. I know it's fashionable to wring our hands about everything with the O-Line, but there's a base of young players there and any gaps that the current two man class creates can be managed.
I admit the situation isn't perfect, but it stops short of being concerning.

Have us at 15th. I hope we can move up a little today. Top ten after last season would be awesome.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
Keeping Reese will not move us up only maintain us, we will have a class ranked somehwere between 15th and 20th.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
How would we move up today exactly? That is already considering Reese in the class, which might not even hold true.
We aren't in contention for anyone else.

Jarrett Patterson committed to Notre Dame.

ND has been popping out first round O-Lineman lately, and will have 1-2 more in this draft class.

Here I am, a 32 year old man with a receding hair line, live streaming high school cheerleaders on my laptop. I think I'm gonna call this one a day.

Reese to Georgia....
February 7th, 2018 at 10:13 AM ^
The Ballz are dumb when a writer can change them 5 minutes before a kid is announcing.
This is a gut puch if true. Shit.

Done deal?
February 7th, 2018 at 10:17 AM ^
He was going to georgia a long time ago, as soon as room opened in that class he was good as gone
February 7th, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
most cases I would agree but Georgia played in the NC. That seems more attractive than losing to USC(not that USC).
February 7th, 2018 at 10:20 AM ^
Playing for your home town team that just played for a Natty and won the SEC seemed pretty cool. Good luck to him if he does go to UGA.

the stage and the bathroom? Damn. Guys are good.

Florida CB Tyson Campbell committed to Georgia.

If Reese goes to Georgia the tea leaves were there with many visits. We just choose to ignore those signs to best fit our narrative.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:24 AM ^
It's what we do.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
Well even if Reese ends up at UGa, my wife is a Bulldog fan. So at least someone in our house would get to enjoy watching him play....
Silver linings and all that.

Florida CB Patrick Surtain, Jr. committed to Alabama.

In 2018. Time for Harbaugh & CO to earn their salaries, or we will find other coaches who can.

but its hard to undersell how terrible the last month of recruiting has been for Michigan..
- DT Friday picks OSU at the last minute
- OT NPF goes from total toss up to OSU at last minute
- OT Patterson picks ND who just lost their OLine coach
- WR Chase who had picked up some stream drops off the board
- LB Reese, a long long time commit flips to Georgia
- Michigan signs its 5th DB for reasons unknown
- Michigan gets a 6th DB (transfer) for reasons unknown
- Michigan picks up PWO Kicker and QB......
