Way OT: Most disturbing movie you have ever watched?

Submitted by Tampa 2 on
So this is way OT, but it is waaay too slow today and I am curious what fellow Mgobloggers have to say about this. I watched the killing of a Sacred Deer and it really got me thinking about stuff. The scene with Kidman in the car with the anesthesiologist really was bizzare, but the overall show was just crazy. The most disturbing movie ever though was Tusk, i can't even explain how i felt after that. Do not watch Tusk! Mods if this is inappropriate please delete, but i feel like we all need something to discuss. So friends, what is the most disturbing movie you ever watched?

Funny People. The entire time I was just kept saying to myself, ok this movie will have a point soon and there will be a few good lines, have some laughs. Then the movie ended, and I was disturbed that I paid to see that in a theatre.

I found it kinda fascinating -- and not too ridiculous or gratuitously gory, as the Saw series became. Of course, the acting, well, is a bit hit-and-miss, to say the least.

The Cube sequels are worth watching, too, even though they are not nearly as good. But you do (kinda sorta) get some resolution to the entire story at the end, if I recall correctly!

For God's sake, DO NOT WATCH A SERBIAN FILM.

All of who have answered anything but A Serbian Film, just read the plot. It is worse than anything ever made and it's frankly not even close.

Only two movies, that I've ever seen all the way through, I classified at the time as too disturbing for me. And one I can watch now without any issues.

The one that doesn't bother me at all now is Sleepy Hollow, the version with Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. I saw it in theaters when I was maybe 10, and there's a scene inside a torture chamber where Ichabod's mother is released from an Iron Maiden. Oddly enough the rest of the movie didn't bother me as its pretty violent, but that scene scared the shit out of me. Didn't sleep the entire night.

The one that still makes me a little unnerved if I watch it is The Exorcist. As I imagine is the case with a lot of people. Great movie, but truly horrifying and a movie that was well-ahead of its time. My parents let me watch it when I was 9 or 10 (we had very lax rules about what age you were exposed to things in our house), and that was another night where I couldn't sleep at all. Just imagining those glowing blue eyes and the head spinning all the way round gave me nightmares in the days following.

The only other film I could think of that was disturbing, and I only saw a few pieces of, is A Serbian Film. Anyone who's seen it, you know which scenes I'm referring to. Wasn't scary, just made you think "Wow, the mind of a human being can stretch to think of some pretty demented shit."

American history X was my most disturbing movie, more so that I watched it in a high school class. saying that wasn't appropriate for school may be a wee bit of an understatement

1. The Scourging scene in The Passion of the Christ was very hard to watch.

2.  The Bear attack scene and the early recovery scenes for Leonardo DiCaprio.  That was disturbing.  Great movie but seeing it once was enough.

When I was a kid, The exorcist was disturbing as well.

This topic is right in my wheel-house. I've trended to these types of movies because horror movies are not very scary to me. What I've found with disturbing movies is that they are not necessarilyscary, but they tap into a different part of ones mind. I watch these movies because they do expand your mind and I am an extraordinarily curious person as to why people make these movies. Irreversible, I Stand Alone, Enter the Void are all good movies if you're interested in that sort of film.

Also, a movie called  "A Serbian Film". I refuse to watch it. Google it at your own peril. Or dont...probobaly better if you don't..

It doesn't compare to some of these, but given my age and expectations when I saw it, it was the first movie that I remember walking out of the theatre and feeling like their could be no happiness in life.  I think I went with three other friends, and we all walked out with a mission to find something - anything- happy to do to offset those emotions.

I don't know why but The Others (2001) starring Nicole Kidman freaked me out when I saw it in the theater. Also, anything with grey aliens that I saw as a child. Other than that I'm not generally frightened by scary movies.

Oh yeah I think I remember that one.

Unsolved Mysteries would freak me out.  And I loved the X-Files although it scared the shit out of me even well into my high school years.  Sometimes I would be too spooked I would like do homework or study or go to bed early haha

The Dark Crystal - just wierd and creepy as hell.  I think Jim Henson was on a big 'ol acid trip.

Natural Born Killers - though one of my favorites

Indecent Proposal - just...I dunno man.

Hard Candy. This was pre-Juno Ellen Page, and she nails her role here. There's a scene in particular that made me cross my legs for about 20 minutes. I'm glad I saw it once.

Nuit et Brouillard (Night and Fog) was tough sledding.  Especially since we saw it at my public middle school years ago.  An important film, and really brought home the idea of the Holocaust.  In 7th Grade we'd rip on virtually anything, but nearly everyone just walked out of the cafeteria stunned.

Requiem for a Dream

The Exorcist

WOlf of Wall Street . What was the point of that fucking movie and why did everyone think it was so great?  It seemed like Scorsese was trying to glorify Wall Street greed and debauchery, basically doing the same thing he did for Mafia life with Goodfellas. I couldn't even get all the way through it. It seemed offensive for the sake of being offensive. I hate that movie.

Nothing But Trouble. A trippy and weird and unfunny Chevy Chase-Dan Aykroyd  movie.  Also didn't understand the point of it other than to freak out an 8 year old L'Carpetron.

Wolf of Wall Street was very funny at times.  I know, the subject of the movie is pure garbage and it unquestionably went too far at times, but it was a really funny movie.  A very good turn by Matthew McConnahay and Kyle Chandler as the fed as well.
