01/13/2019 - 2:12pm Those all sound like things…

Those all sound like things we'd be looking for. Hope they consider him. Syracuse was tough this year, too.

12/22/2018 - 1:34pm That was for her birthday.

That was for her birthday.

12/14/2018 - 8:05am Yeah, what's up with that? I…

Yeah, what's up with that? I always thought it was "bye" game.

Indeed, Onsted of the Irish Hills.

10/29/2018 - 11:32am But that's only true for…

But that's only true for contrary-to-fact situations, such as "if I were you," "if I were a rich man," etc. You don't always use subjunctive with if (sorry your rule doesn't apply in every case). In this case, it's a present tense situation that could very well be true: "if it is correctly edited, I remove my complaint." "If it were correctly edited" only makes sense if you're sure it is not correctly edited, and implies a conditional "what you would do" next.

But I will concur with the poster who started this part of the conversation - "he had went" is just plain wrong.

10/23/2018 - 10:40pm Dominant.

10/23/2018 - 9:38am Yeah, that is bizarre.

Yeah, that is bizarre.

10/17/2018 - 3:03pm Or perhaps aberration. But…

Or perhaps aberration. But abortion has its own powerful effect.

10/06/2018 - 9:13am Like Marcus Ray's what?

Like Marcus Ray's what?

jk - I know what you mean, the unnecessary apostrophe just threw me off for a second.

He's big and fast and I love it that he's coming to UM, but I don't think he got second overall. This results page shows him coming in 13th, just like the video:

06/22/2018 - 10:46am I am in Costa Rica right now…

I am in Costa Rica right now, the people I am staying with are very loyal, if realistic fans. There is a pall over the proceedings, which is not helped by the fact that I woke up this morning with an awful stomach bug and a mild fever. I actually fell asleep in the last 10 minutes of the game, right in front of the tv, and never saw Brazil's goal.

06/21/2018 - 4:58am I would argue that college…

I would argue that college is actually about more than just getting to your chosen career. It's also about learning to be an informed, capable citizen, and freeing your mind from misconceptions that can make you a miserable person, but I know not everyone sees it that way.

05/21/2018 - 8:01pm Emery did great things for Sevilla

but seemed to meet the Peter Principle at PSG. I hope he does well at Arsenal

05/19/2018 - 3:19pm I agree

that it's hard; it's not impossible. Herfe's a decent if perhaps slightly outdated chart of US news media and where they stand ideologically. I also think it's a GREAT idea to seek international perspectives. The Guardian, BBC or Telegraph from the UK, Al Jazeera in English, and if you can speak another language and find decent sources in other countries, fantastic. We need to be better informed, not less.

05/19/2018 - 11:20am As much

as I understand people's frustration with news media, whether it's FOX or the NYT, and as much as I understand the importance of getting away every so often from the non-stop news cycle, I am wary of this "I'm just gonna not read any news at all" mentality. I mean, it's tempting to throw hands in the air and say "Nothing can be done about anything," but if you feel like there's any hope of improving our lot, it seems like those actions have to be based on some informed position of what's going on. Seek out the best news sources and take everything with a grain of salt, but don't just totally give up. my two cents.

05/18/2018 - 5:39pm I heard the same

error on NPR yesterday morning when they interviewed Engler. They've since fixed it, but here's the correction:

CorrectionMay 17, 2018

In an earlier version of this report, Michigan State University was mistakenly referred to as the University of Michigan. Also, Michigan State's interim president, John Engler, was mistakenly referred to as Jim Engler.…

05/03/2018 - 10:02pm an anamous survey?

what's that like?

04/27/2018 - 3:27pm There's nobody calling 'em up

for favors, and no one's future to decide

04/23/2018 - 3:41pm Well, we had

Florida this past year, that was supposed to be a real indicator of where we stood. Maybe if Wilton and Tariq hadn't gone down, we could've maintained that momentum. Maybe our QBs were doomed to injury given the status of the OL. I believe we have greater depth this year, as well as a better OL.

04/20/2018 - 3:55pm How

much milk is too much?

04/19/2018 - 2:22pm I think Grant Newsome is awesome

and I wish him the best. I also want him to learn the difference between incredible and incredulous, but that's just the way I am. It's like an OCD-nervous-tic-kind of thing I have.

04/04/2018 - 10:44am Whose dentist?

03/29/2018 - 12:41pm Hey trout man

love that avatar

03/29/2018 - 12:27pm No threat to steal

that's for damn sure! One of our favorite lines from when Al Kaline was doing color commentary on TV (when Rusty would hit a dribbler that some players might be able to turn into an infield single) was: "Well... Rusty.... can't run."  He didn't mince words, Al.

But I loved watching Rusty. I also saw him at the Corner in Fidrych's year, 1976. RIP Rusty

03/26/2018 - 5:59pm I hate that

fucking grabby shit

03/24/2018 - 5:02pm LAX is a most common abbreviation

and you should get used to it. UM is building a powerhouse.

03/24/2018 - 5:01pm Mich wins

03/23/2018 - 2:18pm My father died

an early death due to Parkinson's. You, sir, have said a very stupid, vile thing, and I hope you feel bad about it, and refrain from saying such stupid, vile things in the future.

03/21/2018 - 9:20pm Thanks for the heads up

I wouldn't have known it was on. Watched while making dinner, it was a win-win.

03/05/2018 - 10:22am Exactly

as I was reading SpartyJon's post, I was thinking, "sounds like M football."

03/02/2018 - 11:53am Threats at my son's high-school

kept most of his friends from attending. The school limited the number of entrances/exits to the school to one, for easier protection. Shitty times we're living in.

03/02/2018 - 10:31am Garza?

I'm out of the loop on that one

02/27/2018 - 2:36pm My issue

with the incessant fortnite (and yes, my 14 year-old boy has played a bunch of it- after Parkland I told him to lay off of it for a while) isn't the year extra it might take him to finish school (although if I'm paying an extra 30 grand for him to go to UM, it will definitely matter!). My issue with the game is that it's all about killing people non-stop. Psych research has shown that repeated exposure to this kind of stuff can affect kids' minds - their ability to distinguish between real and virtual is more porous than we might like to think. Like I said, I told my kid to lay off, and he did.

02/01/2018 - 12:59pm Ask Everyone Murders

his avatar is the dude from Eraserhead, which I just saw again the other day - super weird.

01/30/2018 - 2:21pm I personally

hate jet skis. Odd, I know, for a person who grew up in Michigan, but motorized entertainment of any kind kind of makes me want to vomit.

If I'm at a lake, I want to hear the breeze, the lapping of the waves on the shore, the call of the seagulls, not the whining, mosquito-like buzz of some asshole doing circles where people could be swimming. I prefer sailboarding, kayaking, surfing, swimming, fishing etc. to jet skis or any other motorized way to have fun on the water

If I'm in the woods in winter, I want to hear the quiet, see the animals, maybe do some snow-shoeing or cross-country skiing - not zoom around scaring everything with my snow machine.

One thing is to need these machines. I have made lots of use of 4-wheelers to move shit across vast expanses of remote Candian woods, but we didn't get on those things just to entertain ourselves.

Anyway, that's just me, I know I'm probably ofending a bunch of people here. But I remember when jet skis first came out and ruined a day at the beach for me - I came this close to monkey-wrenching that thing with a bunch of sand to the gas tank. We're so fuckin loud and obnoxious.

12/22/2017 - 7:23pm My cool Dick Enberg story -

he was my dad's cousin. My aunt, all of 84 years young, recently posted on FB a story about how Dick used to frequently show up at their house in Mount Clemons and throw a ball around with pops (my dad passed away 5 years ago after a lengthy bout with Parkinson's).

Also, my brother got into the sports broadcasting business out of college - behind the camera and microphones - and wrote a letter to Dick, asking for advice, help, etc. He was really hoping Dick would give him the old family boost and send him on is way to instant fame and fortune. Instead, he got a handwritten and signed letter, which I'm sure he still has, saying basically "work hard son, and you'll get somewhere." Serious midwestern, work-ethic values in him. And while my brother was hoping for something more at the time, he probably wouldn't have it any other way now. He worked hard, and now he's doing just fine in an area he absolutely loves. My cool story, bro.

12/03/2017 - 12:50pm Can we at least

add the apostrophe, just for fun? Boom, Peter'sed
