Izzo: "I need time to sit and look at everything" and "I'm not retiring"

Submitted by Piston Blue on

Looks like Dantonio and Izzo are doubling down. We'll see how this plays out over the next few weeks/months.

And now theyre talking too. Just got out of cat listening to Farrell(sp?) on the bench. He was talking about the 16 players under dantonio’s watch. He discussed the specifics but right before the break he said, 16reported rape cases and the coach says he didn’t do anything wrong.... A sound bite like that says so much.... No explanation or anything more said doesn’t mean people won’t fill in their own blanks. And that’s how the stuff gains a ton of momentum. No excitement here. But it is interesting to see how these things start to roll and scoop up everybody in their wake.

The narrative has shifted and people are horrified.  There is no way for STATE to control this narrative anymore.  The stories are coming out and there are many people now at work or who will be at work to uncover what's been going on.  Much easier to hide the truth when no one is looking for it or suspects the depths of the depravity.

Let Izzo and Dantanio protest with their innocence.  Time will deliver the recknoning.

The fact that the media grabbed on to this UPPED THE ANTE...As much as I dislike the Spartans, I always thought IZZO was generally a good guy and this isnt how i hoped he would go out. I liked it better beating him in his own barn by double digits...That being said I dont see any way he makes it thru this.Gotta keep the focus on the victims herem my best guess is now that it is out in the open the VICTIMS will have the strenght to come forward and that will be the undoing of MSU B-BALL and FOOTBALL for a few years!

Perles is no capacity to lead a major university or athletic department.  He's 84 and reportedly declining in health.

If MSU is smart, and they've shown no ability thus far, they'll listen to their new PR firm and hire an unknown from outside the circle.

That would be the worst thing they could do. This has gone too national and even world wide now to try to clean this up from within. If they want this to quiet down as quick as possible they need to own up to it, apologize for it, clean house, and start the healing process. I wouldn't put it past them to keep making stupid decisions regarding this but firing both of those enablers would let the world know they are serious about getting their priorities in line.

I don’t know if Dantonio referenced the issue at hand, but Izzo did say he wanted to be a part of the healing process.

Dantonio just seemed irritated he had to say anything

The very public statements by the victims was a game changer, or at least I hope so. Institutions talk about a 'healing process' in terms of the institutions, not the victims who actually need healing. To the institution, healing means a return to business as usual and getting out of the limelight. The raw pain and emotion of the victims has reduced the ability of those responsible to wrap themselves in the flag of the insistution and ride the storm out. Hence, Izzo's references to 'healing' ring more hollow than it used to.

If? They actively encouraged the rape victim to STFU. Two of Izzo’s most high profile players. This wasn’t harassment or grabbing a boob. They raped her orally, anally and vaginally. Brutal and not a hint of a punishment. The Payne befriending a sick child PR story then comes out of nowhere. If you don’t think Izzo was well aware then I don’t know what to tell you. There is a disgusting cover up culture at MSU and it’s going down quickly.

it was that moment when i knew izzo had sold his soul to the devil.  i respected him before that point as being straight up and honest.  not after that.  he could have kicked appling and payne to the curb and replaced them the next year with new similar recruits and moved on.  they were only freshmen after all and hadn't even played in a game yet when the incident happened.

and i am almost sure has paid big money for some of his recent recruits because he has no soul anymore.

Izzo knows he's fucked for sure now, just working on his exit strategy.

MD is too arrogant, I believe he truly thinks he's going to get out of this unscathed.

"In my mind." What does that mean? That he doesn't want to leave? That if it were up to him he wouldn't leave? That he knows he has to leave? That he wants to live in a nice comfortable fantasy where he isn't accountable?

And after he sits and looks at everything what then? Seems he isn't clear at all about his future. Dantonio, in the other hand, has doubled down.

Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite

The signs that might be omens say I'm going, going
I'm going to Carolina in my mind

It's with a holy host of others standing around me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon

And it looks like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind...

....Well I'm already gone
I'm gone
Say nice things about me
I'm gone, suddenly gone
You've got to carry on without me
I'm gone, I'm gone
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Yeah I'm, Yes I'm going to Carolina in my mind

Do not expect Izzo or Dantonio to admit any wrong doing, regret, or do the right thing do you? Izzo I could see retiring Dantonio they will have to drag out of there. I think Izzo is a human, I think Dantonio is evil in that fake Tressel “ holier than thou” kind of way.

And I don't really care.

Thought Izzo handled that really well. But you can tell he looks really exhausted. I think he'll end up coaching a year or two more and move on.

You're correct in your statement.  From his standpoint he probably did handle things as best as he could.  Just can't help myself after listening to that delta bravo.  Lizard brain / reactions taking over.  Nothing really directed at you.

His entire career and reputation immolating. He tied himself to the MSU wagon, was all in on Simon and Hollis and...uh oh.

Not that I feel the least but bad for him. Hey Tom...shoulda taken the NBA gig when you had the chance.

If only he could have handled sexual assault allegations that well. Also, fuck Izzo that midget piece of shit. I hope he keeps winning this year and becomes the first 1 seed to get beat by a 16 seed. Then he gets fired and has to leave in shame for being a shitty human being. *caveat-if there was a way for MSU to lose every game until the tournament and still be the 1 seed that loses to the 16 seed, I choose that outcome instead

FS1 has commentators talking about Izzo and his press conference. They just suggested that the lack of a  president and AD now means that Izzo is the "leader" to help the campus deal with the current crisis. Umm, I don't think look to a guy who is potentially deeply implicated in the wrongdoings to help you navigate the process.

Nothing will happen to Dantonio and Izzo. They own East Lansing. They'll ride out  the storm, and watch as everything else burns down around them.

January 26th, 2018 at 11:03 PM ^

Yeah, nothing will ever happen to the president or athletic director either. What power will they have when they are fully exposed and the remainder of the faculty, the campus police turn on them. You can’t silence this anymore.

BlueinLansing

I would have said the same thing.  But when have you ever heard of a sitting University President and Athletics Director, both well respected in their fields resign within 2 days.  They're out because they know its bad.

Games changed, this is different.  I don't think anyone survives this.
