We've been iowa since 2001
Identify these two programs for me, based on records from 2001 to present.
Program A: 139-78 overall, 83-55 big ten, 2 conference titles, 7-8 bowl record
Program B: 138-77 overall, 86-52 big ten, 2 conference titles, 4-10 bowl record

17 years is more than a decade. Basically since the 2nd half of the carr era, (Tressell, Navarre full time starter and Henne) we've been Iowa, just with a bigger stadium.

Michigan is 5-7 against Iowa since 2001.
And since 2001 Iowa has the same number of wins against OSU that Michigan does.
January 19th, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
I don't disagree, but Iowa has had the same coach and staff for that entire time. Michigan has gone through perhaps their most fallow period in recent memory, while this is basically steady-state Iowa. Had Michigan maintained their state they were in 2001, they'd look a hell of a lot different. You are your record, but I think Michigan is much closer to catching up to OSU than staying like Iowa.
January 19th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Couldn't agree more. I think if you remove the outliers, the trend would be different.
January 19th, 2018 at 4:13 PM ^
But we didn't maintain the state that were were in at the conclusion of the 2000 season. Some reaons are that Henson left for baseball, Tressell took OSU to another level, and we couldn't keep up.
As regularly as Ferentz is mocked here it is worth noting that there is a much longer trend here. The seven years of RRod and Hoke are included in 7 years of Carr and 3 years of Harbaugh and yet we are still Iowa.
Heck even over the last 3 years we are identical to Iowa, they just have one more overall loss due to playing in the 2015 big ten championship, but otherwise regular season big ten and bowl records are identical.
I believe our future is brighter with Harbaugh, but the stark reality is that Iowa is our doppleganger. And with them in the easier division they might keep pace with us for the foreseeable future.

Shavodrick Beaver demommitting from Michigan to go to Tulsa (I think it was Tulsa...or was it UTEP) was the worst recruiting dong punch I can remember. And it wasn't a case where the kid didn't have a committable offer.

You can still wish him a good career and 4 years of pre-game turf toe vs. UM
January 19th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
I do not wish him well. He chose to play for the enemy.

Kind of disappointing to not land a guy that the staff was after for over two years. Results on the field matter. Win more games and we'll win more of these battles. I do still like a lot the players we have in our current '18 class though. Onward!!!
January 19th, 2018 at 2:31 PM ^
The staff wasn't just after him for two years, they were in the drivers seat until a month or two ago. That to me is the most disappointing thing about this one. That and the fact that OSU continues to be able to just step up late and get almost any recruit they want.

I agree 110%.

Well I agree 105.71% with the 86% of the 110% that Jimmy Fresh agreed with the OP. Simply meaning that I agree in the normal amount.

January 19th, 2018 at 3:05 PM ^
What Sam DID say was that OSU had higher priorities than him and probably didn’t have room. That is why OSU not getting the Carmen kid and having some flips was actually bad for M in this particular situation.

Probably not the Bosco kids, but it already has benefited us with Paramus kids, see Gary, Rashan and Singleton, Drew. He is also our best recruiter overall and is the primary reason we are recruiting Georgia so well. I will take that over getting a few Bosco kids once in a blue moon.
It's just really sad that High School coaches let their own agendas get in the way of a kid's college decision.
January 19th, 2018 at 6:01 PM ^
What makes you think he selected OSU because of his coach? It's not like he picked Illinois over us. It's way more likely that his decision has absolutely nothing at all to do with his coach.

Never underestimate a person's ability to be petty and vindictive. I know people who are able to hold grudges for a long, long time over smaller slights.

That will still allow him to recruit NJ very well - we have gotten several top ranked kids out of NJ that he had no previous ties to. However, this was the reason RU backed out of hiring him. I just think a kid who has the opportunity to go to Michigan isn’t as easily talked out of it as he would be if it was Rutgers - and it isn’t all NJ coaches just a few that felt he took their best players while at Paramus.
The difference is that in HS you hate the guy and may hold a grudge. In college you go out and try to hire him....like ‘Bama did this year.
January 19th, 2018 at 11:49 PM ^
One private school getting mad at other private schools over recruiting "their" players? I could see if it was a public school and the kid lived in a certain district but what valid claim does a private school have over a certain player?
January 19th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
That's whay happens when you win games. If we want to beat OSU head to head with recruits, we are going to have to beat them on the field first.
January 19th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Consistently. Once will show it's possible, multiple times will show we're capable.
January 19th, 2018 at 6:40 PM ^
Well BassDude, I'll give the board my two cents on it since you are thinking what I am. There is always the chance that the snake worshippers in cbus are employing certain unethical tactics, if you're picking up what I'm throwing down. There was a time when certain military recruiters were being investigated for waltzing into highschools and getting all kinds of young/naive men to join that were never even closely interested in any of the branches. We'll just call these people masters of words. I believe these recruiters pulled heavy commissions as well. Anyway, my point being is I don't doubt that some of the schmucks on that staff aren't capable of the same persuasion. That is why they might come in at the last moments and use those tactics to sway a commit. If they used them all throughout the process and duration of the kids high school career, one might catch onto their game and their method would have less effect and start to stink. Call me conspiracy nutjob all you want. I just state the facts there kids as they are put in front of me.

Sucks but it is what it is. I agree with the offensive line sentiment. Although, I think there are some stud OL on the team now, just redshirt or true freshmen.
