to prepare the team for when we enter playoff competition starting in 2019. I think they expand the playoffs to 6 or 8 teams in 2019 season, so it will be easier to make the playoffs and that is when are games become meaningful.

a Michigan footbal NC would be irrelevant. So does it "have meaning" or not?

Most of the math from the ratings sites point to something in the neighborhood of 24-14 in favor of Michigan, which seems about right to me.
I definitely predict that I will watch - possibly in a less than sober state though, as this IS the holiday season.

I just can't see Michigan losing this one. They wouldn't even be in this game if it weren't for a mountain of injuries, including two quarterbacks. Blue rolls.

Harbaugh will use this as a statement game for 2018
UM wins BIG!
December 25th, 2017 at 8:56 PM ^
Indeed. UM is a wolf in sheep's clothing right now, a 10/11 win team masquerading as an 8 win one. SC is strong, but they drew a nightmare matchup.

The extra practices are definitely important and you see progression here and there, but I don’t see the offense all of a sudden figuring all of its shit out after only a month. South Carolina is not a pushover like Rutgers, Minnesota or Maryland are. They’re a quality team. Sorry but I just can’t buy into us blowing them out, and I’ve gotten optimistic about this team so many times only to be let down over and over,
17-10 Michigan. Peters doesn’t play bad, but doesn’t do anything thing to dazzle. He just manages the game. We head into the offseason wondering if it’ll be him or Patterson getting the start in South Bend next Fall.

Definitely possible, but given how the running game, WRs, and maybe even the OL (very slightly) have improved throughout the year, I think there's at least a 50% chance Peters has a great game and we blow them out. OSU would have been a very different game if we had a QB who could hit wide open receivers. I think if we had Peters we would have won that game.
On a side note, I'm wondering what happens to Patterson if Peters takes the starting job next year. If Peters starts and plays well next year he'll almost definitely be starting in '19. Shea probably doesn't have the credits to graduate early and take a grad transfer, and would then have to sit out a year if he does so? I'm really glad we have another bullet in the chamber and it should be a really interesting QB competition, but unless I'm mistaken about Shea's ability to transfer again it seems like it could end up being a bad decision for him to come here if he can't play...

Took some balls to come here and compete with no guarantee for a starting gig, possibly putting his career in football on the line, and I commend him for it. I’m excited for him if he wins, because Peters played well this season, and it would mean that Patterson is just that much better.

I don't think South Carolina scores a TD. Defense will be hungry and from reading some things on the SC board, they have offensive problems.
