Dear Mods: We Have a Troll Infestation

Submitted by FauxMo on

Normally, I never see flat-out trolls allowed to stick around on the board. There are borderline cases here and there, sure, but today we have a couple of guys on the board today just devoted to trolling and nothing else. What gives?

MODS: Thank you. I am glad Tampa is back to being a serial killer, and Paul Finebaum retured to Tuscaloosa...

An MGoPurge scheduled for January 1st. We get someone smart to track IP addresses and the rest of us show up at the addresses with barbwire wrapped baseball bats to Lucile the hell out of some computers and phones. Strike two, and people and are gonna start getting Glenn'd. Deal?

If you've noticed it, the mods have noticed it.

No need for thread creation.

The amount of complaint threads has gone through the roof as of late.  This site is awesome despite a few trolls, despite the old site format, and despite me even complaining about this complaint thread.

People complaining about the trolls have basically become as annoying as the trolls themselves. I think we've seen them increase over the last 2-3 months because whether you'll admit it or not there seems to be a single minded posting policy around here. People with honest, thoughtful, BUT negative (to an extent) opinions have been absolutely bombed.

This. This site is almost unreadable at this point. I'm really hoping something changes when the new site comes out, if it ever does, but until then I'm probably not going to visit much until signing day. Which is probably a mistake because the site is unreadable during that too since it crashes all day.

LOL, case in point #1. I have the most negged post on the entire thread. And why? Because I stated something that's true? That numerous other people believe as well. I wasn't vulgar, threatening, or vicious toward anyone! Can't even fucking talk on this board, the high and mighty's might get mad or get their feelings hurt.

Guy Fawkes, Yes...I agree with you.  One can make a very logical, laiden with objective facts post, but if it is negative towards saying anything other than "Michigan is great" or that "We will go 11-0 next year" it has a tendency to get negged.  I wouldn't get your panties in too much of a bunch about that.  Just realize that is how the board "votes" and post such comments at your own risk.

I love 90% of this site, and will always come back, but the 10% that really sucks are the people that literally cannot handle a well thought out / logical argument to the "negative aspects" of the program.  If you post anything other than "we will go 11-0" or "We will demolish OSU next year" you will get negged more than you get up voted.  That is a fact and one that you must know is "post at your own risk".

"laden with facts" "objectivity"  "well thought out"  "logical"  and so on.....you're better than that, Lakeyale, don't play into that #1 weakness.

You're not at any risk simply for having a different opinion, usually regardless of how well thought out the opinion is.  You might pick up a neg here and there from someone who disagrees... nothing more than that, and you'll be just as likely to find that someone agrees with you.  One of the things I most enjoyed (before today) about the board is that on a thread with 57 replies you might find 39 different ways of looking at things.  Even at my advanced age, I live for learning and I learned so much here.  Trolls don't do anything to add to the diverse quality of posts.

I will say, however, that Harbaugh is off limits at all times. Any negative views or criticism of JH and you're sure to get neg bombed (regardless of how well though out the critisicm is)
