Recruiting director Matt Dudek responds to Twitter trolls...

Submitted by fharajli on

So there is a small, but growing faction of people, who have been voicing their displeasure and concern about the '18 class. They claim that we are getting left in the dust in comparison to OSU's recruiting. When you look at the recruiting rankings and the classes OSU has coming in over the next few years, that may be true. That frustration boiled over in a heated Twitter exchange with recruiting director Matt Dudek. Looks like the trolls have finally gotten to him.

Personally, I'm not a star gazer or one who puts tremendous stock in recruiting rankings, but there are many in the fanbase that do. True, there is a stark difference in talent that OSU has in the '18 class and what Michigan is getting star-wise. I think it's just a result of some misses on our end and a bad season and I think the '19 class will be as good as any and there's no reason to worry.

For those out there that are worried about the '18 class or the disparity in apparent talent that OSU is bringing in and what Michigan is bringing in, can you explain the rationale of why you're freaking out over one average class?

We can probably question why the staff would respond to a troll, but this is the base problem, in my opinion - far too many dickheads on things like Twitter. I should know because I am on Twitter, after all.

Actually, I am shocked things like this don't happen more in sports, where staffs fire a return volley at their more, well, common fans. I admire the restraint of those that do not - I don't know that could completely resist the urge.

A little birdie told me a very important person is "perplexed" at the insinuation that was made by the steak reference. Speaking to fans as though they are common folk serving the nobles apparently wasn't the kind of message that person was looking for.

So while many on here like it, it didn't go over well at all.

It shouldn't go over well. Leave that kind of twitter banter on twitter or the blogs. I've seen someone on this site take down a twerp on twitter. Made quick work of him. Don't have university employees and/or football employees doing that.  Bad look.

I believe you. First thing I thought when reading that tweet, was "Man, I need to take that guy's job, he's doing it totally wrong". Second thought was that it would probably be a paycut and a lot of work to make the connections to even get a look.

Still, they need to get someone in there who, especially in recruiting, understands what to say and when to say it.

Have you been in a coma? Every time there is a post about a recruit there is a handful of people whining about the 2018 class. There really isn’t a need to offer them another opportunity!

Having a few true freshman who can come in and compete for a spot on the two-deep would be ideal, i.e.- Ruiz, Asiasi. Especially since next year is THE YEAR. Do you see a recruit in this class with that potential? I do not.

RB is the position I'd circle. I know people like Evans and Higdon a lot, but to me they both seem better suited for a change-of-pace role. It's a position where even a true freshman can come in on first/second down and make an impact. Our current backs all seem to be lacking one or two traits that is keeping them from being great. Our two 2018 recruits seem to be in this same mold. Our run-blocking turned a corner halfway though the year and is a far cry from 27 for 27. The opportunity is there. I know I'm being greedy, but I want an All-American RB. No position is more exciting in football.

Dude Higdon and Evans are fine. Shut the hell up. I wasn't on the Evans bandwagon until the second half of this season but now, well yeah he's the shit. Along with Higdon. They're more dangerous than Weber and whatever that young tailbacks name is from bucnut land. With any passing attack next year, these two are going to be wicked bad. Oh and mind you, the passing attack will be there. Just like 2006 baby, comeon Blue! If this offense starts to get the better of the defense in practices, better get your popcorn ready cuz they're going light mother schmuckers up like christmas trees baby.

depth chart with only two positions to worry about. We'd be in great shape with no freshmen on the team next season.

McGrone looks like he could play early. Reese, if he sticks, should. Sims is enrolling early. so maybe him too in a loaded secondary. A good chance for Muhammad to be in the TE rotation. We're still going to add 5-6 players. If nothing else, one will crack the 2-deep at FB.

i think a bunch of guys will be close to 2-deep and a year of practice with S&C will put them on the 2019 2-deep. The better question is which guys from the last 2 classes will take a big step forward to pass a guy on the current 2-deep or become a key starter (a la McKeon and Bush). I've pegged Woods, Collins, J Hudson, Luigi and Singleton as those guys for 2018.

Not really. We've seen Ruiz in action at guard and he's been effective. I realize we haven't seen him at center yet but that doesn't make him a "huge question mark." He was the top-ranked H.S. center and he'll be taking over as a true sophomore with game experience. He's about as good a bet as there is. And on the off chance Ruiz doesn't work out at center, there's still Spanellis.

play enough to logically disqualify from a redshirt: Muhammad and Schoonmaker at TE (assume TWJ and Bunting transfer) Cameron McGrone at LB (strong class ahead, but just like Ross they will acclimate McGrone) Myles Sims at CB (strong 4 ahead of him, but he will get time) Here's the good news - where the team needs starters or depth (OT, DT, QB and S) for 2018 are not spots to depend on frosh. These guys can develop a year or two to step before they're needed.
