05/31/2018 - 1:38pm I'm not sure that one win

I'm not sure that one win over Sparty this year automatically elevates us to the #1 program in the State in the eyes of today's kids.  In terms of prestige, we will always have the edge, but we need to roll off two or three in a row to legitimately take control once again.  While they do not have a national brand, Dantonio has certainly built up some cache here in Michigan.

05/14/2018 - 4:30pm Michigan State is an above

Michigan State is an above average university with a similar academic reputation.  While the the admininstration has been a miserable failure, it should be noted that there are many wonderful people working and/or attending school there.  With the exception of the late Ron Mason, their athletic department has always been a cespool.  That being said, I think a degree from MSU MAY do more for you in life than one from Western or Central (depending on the area of study).  Their job placement program is wider reaching.

05/06/2018 - 5:41pm MSU's recent success is

MSU's recent success is almost as attriubtable to well selected Ohio recruits/leftovers,as it is Michigan kids.

03/30/2018 - 8:50am FWIW, I worked in the Pistons

FWIW, I worked in the Pistons front office for 6 years in the early 90's.  At that time, an NBA locker room wasn't the ideal place for an immature 18 year old with 10's of millions of dollars.  I don't necessarily disagree that he should go, but I do understand if his father thinks one more year of college wouldn't be a mistake.  The most important NBA contract is the second one....

03/29/2018 - 3:26pm This is way more Sparty info

This is way more Sparty info than I could ever read.  That being said, Shannon Brown was a baller.

03/29/2018 - 3:20pm I doubt this has much to do

I doubt this has much to do with Izzo.  JJJ's father is a sharp guy who played in the NBA, so if the kid stays, it is because his Dad feels like he would benefit from another year of maturity.

03/28/2018 - 4:39pm My father-in-law is an

My father-in-law is an osteopath.  Nassar had an instructional video for his "pelvic floor adjustment" therapy that he would share with other doctors.  He also used this to wiggle out of a police investigation in 2004.  I would bet that is the video on Stampel's computer.

03/28/2018 - 2:49pm Miles Bridges is a very

Miles Bridges is a very impressive athlete and seems to be a good kid.  As a basketball player, there was zero improvement from year 1 to 2 (directly related to poor coaching), and his performance against Syracuse was dreadful.

03/27/2018 - 4:21pm F#CK MSU, but why do the

F#CK MSU, but why do the Meridian Twp Police get totally ignored with all of this ?   They had a detailed complaint about Nassar in 2004 and completely dropped the ball with zero follow-up.  The outrage toward the MSU authorities absolutely justified, but should Mark Hollis be held to a higher standard than a police department who has a direct responsibility to protect the public ?

03/27/2018 - 9:26am I'm still confused how the

I'm still confused how the Meridian Township Police Department hasn't been scrutenized at all by anyone.  A detailed police complaint was filed against Nassar in 2004, and these guys let it slide with no follow up whatsoever.

03/09/2018 - 12:24pm Careful what you wish for.

Careful what you wish for.  Cole is a good coach who will make Sparty competitive again in the next few years.  I hate them like poison, but part of me misses those Berenson-Mason battles when the stakes were high.....some of the most spirited hockey games I have ever seen.

02/24/2018 - 4:42pm That assault was reported on

That Appling Payne assault was reported on August 30, and the prosecutor announced there would be no charges on September 28.  Wondering if this is a typical time frame for an investigation ?

02/24/2018 - 4:26pm Yes, Jud and Ron Mason were

Yes, Jud and Ron Mason were straight-up coaches...neither of whom would fit in there today.

02/24/2018 - 2:19pm Nassar was treating some

Double Post

02/24/2018 - 2:18pm Nassar was treating some

Nassar was treating some student athletes, but was employed by the Deparment of Osteopathic medicine, not the Athletic Department.  I am curious what jurisdiction the NCAA would have?

02/23/2018 - 10:04am Bridges was already committed

Bridges was already committed to Sparty when the $400 was paid in May of 2016.  Of course that doesn't mean that there weren't other earlier payments that haven't been uncovered.  I would bet there are.  My point was a response to the earlier post suggesting that the money was the reason he came back for a 2nd year.   As mentioned...no way a guy turns down NBA millions to come back so his mother pockets hundreds.

02/23/2018 - 8:38am Everyone knows Izzo has

Everyone knows Izzo has skeletons in the closet, but Miles Bridges doesn't turn down millions of NBA dollars to come back to MSU so his mother can pocket hundreds.

02/21/2018 - 6:10pm Thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks for clearing that up.  Let me just say that I hate Izzo like poison, but what do we think he was supposed to do here ?   Dunning's conclusion was that "no crime was committed" came before they even played a game.

02/21/2018 - 6:05pm Unless I am mistaken, the

Unless I am mistaken, the prosecutors decision not to press charges came before the season began, so the two guys played.  Is that incorrect ?

02/20/2018 - 4:33pm Two point here.  MSU has

Two point here.  MSU has never been, and never will be used in the same sentence as the word prestigious.  Second, no matter what has occurred, "the university itself" is not going to "crumble" to the point that "relevant" students are transferring to Western and Ferris.  They will wear a GIANT scar over the Nassar tragedy, and will pay out millions of dollars, but that's it.

02/16/2018 - 9:54am Perry was accused & charged

Perry was accused & charged with the same thing, and he played.  I hate Izzo like poison, but this being the lead story on ESPN.com's "Headlines" seems like a stretch.  A walk-on is being investigated for grabbing a girls ass (which is a serious issue if confirmed), but hasn't been charged.

02/16/2018 - 8:36am Correct.  I'm not sure I

Correct.  I'm not sure I would want Harbaugh, Belein or anyone else to simply dismiss a kid based on a groping accusation that is only under investigation with no charges filed.  If it is corroborated by a witness and proven to be true, then most certainly goodbye.

02/15/2018 - 11:50am I wouldn't anticipate

I wouldn't anticipate McElwain providing much of a recruting boost from kids in Florida.  His name and reputation are not well regarded down here.

02/14/2018 - 4:41pm Don't expect a recruting bump

Don't expect a recruting bump in Florida if he is hired.  McElwain's name is mud down here.....

02/13/2018 - 6:58pm If I were a parent of a

If I were a parent of a daughter at MSU, I would want Dantonio gone for bringing Robertson the rapist on campus. He was twice charged with sexual assault, yet was wandering around with the girls on campus just because he can rush the QB on a Saturday afternoon. I hate Izzo like poison, but really need to see some proof that he was involved in wrongdoing. Unless I am missing something, at this point it is nothing more than hearsay or speculation. Prosecutors and attorneys are saying they have never spoken to him, and probably risking their reputations and careers if those are lies.

02/08/2018 - 2:14pm Despite his history of a HS

Despite his history of a HS assault , Harbaugh (among many others) also offered Robertson.  In fact, his offer list was very impressive.  However, I think there was a 2nd legal situation that caused the kid to end up signing with MSU very late after Singing Day.  I've got no problem with a coach giving someone the benefit of the doubt the first time, but after the 2nd situation, I think you pull the offer.  This is a clear situation where Dantonio should be held 100% accountable.  Parents should be able to send their girls to MSU without worrying about a rapist floating around campus just because he can rush the QB on Saturday afternoon.

02/08/2018 - 10:23am Despite some flaws in the

Despite some flaws in the early ESPN report, Mork is an arrogant prick, and parents of kids at MSU should be outraged at the slugs he has brought onto that campus.  However, his strategy of "laying in the weeds" has nothing to do with being afraid of reporters.  Rather, it is the proven-strategy in today's society of waiting for the next scandal somewhere else to bury his story.

02/08/2018 - 8:36am Based on what ?   This board

Based on what ?   This board is correct when stating that MSU Football is not nationally relevant.  In this case that will work in their favor.  Allegations from 7 years ago that were not prosecuted are not going to remain "hot" news anymore than any other story related to MSU Football.  Izzo's spotlight is quite a bit brighter, so his situation will be more challenging.

02/07/2018 - 9:20am WTF ?    UF has a great

WTF ?    UF has a great campus and Gainesville is one of the better SEC college towns.  That being said, McElwain's reputation in that state is dirt, and I don't see any recruiting benefits to brining him here.  Also, he coached for Sparty under John L. Smith.....so no thanks.

01/19/2018 - 10:53am I fully expect us to return

I fully expect us to return to form sooner than later.  However, expecting Sparty to return to 2003 form is not reasonable under their current coaching staff.   For history to "swing back into place" they are going to have to get a lot worse (while we get better), and no one on this board has really given any realistic insight into why that will happen.

01/11/2018 - 6:46pm Correct.  I wish people on

Correct.  I wish people on this board would stop with the "regress back to the mean" or "fly on the windshield" nonsense.   They are who they are, and they're not going to suddenly become MSU from 2003.  This means we have to get better to start beating them.  That process is in now in motion, but appears to be more challenging than anyone realized.

01/10/2018 - 10:36am We haven't "stomped" Sparty

We haven't "stomped" Sparty since 2006, so I'm not holding my breath.  Two straight wins in EL would be enough for me, and we have a good shot if we have a respectable day throwing the football.

01/06/2018 - 10:46am The "one in a million play"

The "one in a million play" would have been irrelevant if we had not let their fat-ass Fullback catch a 10 yard pass, and then RUN 80 YARDS to the one yard line earlier.

01/06/2018 - 6:22am Do you ever get tired of

Do you ever get tired of being wrong about Sparty ?  Fuck them, but to play devils advocate, they are two plays away from being 3-0 against us.   And....forget the blocked punt.  That is irrelevant if we don't let their fat-ass full back catch a 10 yard pass, and then RUN 80 YARDS to the 1 yard line earlier in the game.  Also, McDoom needs to catch that pass this season.  Regardless, there is no doubt that our program is about to get stronger, but beating them "regularly" will require them to get weaker too. That won't happen unless their Ohio pipeline is cut off because the coaching and talent are too solid.  Variables go back and forth unless one team is so much better that the games are not close.  That probably won't be the case as long as Mork is there.

01/05/2018 - 8:40am Only nine passing TD's is

Only nine passing TD's is more that a "little hiccup."  The roster seems short on playmakers...guys who can make something out of nothing because they want it that bad.  Stars are nice on signing day, but we need more kids who play pissed when the whistle blows.   That edge isn't necessary to earn stars in high school, but we need it to beat Sparty and OSU.

01/04/2018 - 9:16am At this stage, I think it is

At this stage, I think it is first and foremost about fielding teams that are BiG championship contenders.   We potentailly had that last year, but failed.  The fan base spends each offseason and September talking about history and how we will win, but haven't yet participated in a B1G championship game.  We need a culture where people (and players) are pissed and play with an edge, not a group that talks about MSU being "a fly on the windshield" when Harbaugh gets his guys.

01/03/2018 - 11:07am Their new coach is in his

Their new coach is in his first year, and will get them back to respectability.  I hate Sparty like poison, but sure miss those Berenson-Mason battles from decades ago....Some of the most competitive and enjoyable hockey of my lifetime.

01/02/2018 - 10:55am MSU is irrelevant. "Fly on

MSU is irrelevant. "Fly on the windshied" was what was posted last year.  There were also threads prediciting the demise of Penn State after Barkley.  Other teams are not the issue today.  We're going nowhere unless we start from scratch and earn it.  That means load up top Offensive and Defensive lineman who play with attitide.  Also, lets find a QB who can make things happen with his feet.  I don't care how many damn stars they have, but I want guys who play pissed.

12/28/2017 - 10:43pm Absolutely correct. While I

Absolutely correct. While I hate Sparty like poison, I will admit that the rebuilding job Dantonio inherited was much more challenging that what Harbaugh is faced with. Next year will be telling.

12/28/2017 - 10:39pm Lewerke threw for four TD's

Lewerke threw for four TD's and 445 yards against Northwestern. What's your point?

12/18/2017 - 2:14pm We talk about this stuff

We talk about this stuff regarding MSU every year from December - August, but what difference does it make when the ball is kicked off ?  Jim Tressell once said that Mork was one of the best evaluators of talent he has ever seen.  Dantonio is a jack-ass, but that SOB is usually able to find kids who play hard.

12/11/2017 - 10:05am While I agree with the fact

While I agree with the fact we need to turn this series around, some people never learn.  We've been talking about MSU's recruiting for a decade now.  Mork may be a douchbag, but he is exceptionally good at finding kids to play in his system.  Recruting stars are almost irrelevant to them because his kids show up to play when they see Maize and Blue on the opposing sideline.

.

11/18/2017 - 5:54pm Clemson and Auburn played in

Clemson and Auburn played in early September and I enjoyed watching a big game that early in the year.  So, I really don't have a problem with who they played today just because the B1G chooses not to schedule that way.

11/18/2017 - 5:48pm I don't care for Braylon's

I don't care for Braylon's tweet.   He's not talking about a paid professional athlete, but rather a college kid doing the best he can for Edward's alma mater.

11/08/2017 - 12:23pm This is not a realistic

This is not a realistic comparision.  The rebuilding job Dantonio faced at MSU was much more challenging that the one Harbaugh was dealt when accepting the job here.

11/08/2017 - 12:08pm Part of the reason we lose to

Part of the reason we lose to Mork is because everyone on their side (players, coaches and fans) takes the match-up MUCH MORE seriously.  Once again this board is predicting a blowout loss for Sparty this weekend.  Based on what ??  It won't happen.  Until our fanbase and program can bring themselves to acknowledge the effort they play with over there, we will continue to struggle beating them.  I hate those bastards like poison, but I would never count them out in a high-stakes game like the one they are playing this weekend.

11/05/2017 - 9:35am Would Saban have 5 national

Would Saban have 5 national titles had he stayed at MSU? Would Harbaugh be able to challenge for titles at San Diego State ? It is ignorant not to acknowledge that where you coach is directly related to how easy it is to be a consistent winner .

11/05/2017 - 9:28am You are incorrect. MSU has a

You are incorrect. MSU has a fantastic indoor practice facility, but outside of that, UF has far superior resources. The Gators have a much larger budget, better tradition, and the top academic support system for their athletes in the country. The Swamp is head and shoulders better than Spartan Stadium, and they sit in the middle of the most fertile recruiting territory in the country. In addition, football is king in Gainesville, and only shares the spotlight with Izzo at MSU.

11/04/2017 - 8:12pm Rebuilding an atrocious

Rebuilding an atrocious program with no tradition, resources or prestige isn't easy. A much more difficult challenge than what Harbaugh faced here. Would Meyer have a better winning percentage than Mork if he went to MSU from Bowling Green? I'm not sure that would be the case.

11/04/2017 - 8:06pm MSU is a garbage dump

MSU is a garbage dump compared to the programs, facilities and resources at Florida and OSU. Nobody does more with less than Dantonio. Not saying he is better than Meyer, but there is more to consider than just records when offering an opinion.
