DC for Georgia. Or is it Bama? Either way, they got a good candidate - one of the better coordinators waiting his turn. To be honest, I didn't think they'd get anyone of that calibre, even though he has no HC experience.

It's a little unusual for schools at Tennessee's level to hire someone with no head coaching experience.Does he really look like a better hire than Butch Jones did at the time? I wouldn't say that.

Bama does fine without breaking the bank. It's the Ole Misses of the world that are egregious offenders.

I don't buy this idea. I actually think Saban is and has been clean.

Tell that to all his "injured" players who are forced to transfer to SouthWest Eastern Middle Alabama Community College because a younger 5-Star just took their scholarship.

Nevermind the fact that nobody in the history of college football has recruited like Alabama. Where the 5 star back ups have 5 star back ups. It must be because Tuscaloosa is such a nice place......

Right? I still can't believe how bad Ole Miss was at it!! I've never paid players to play football, but even I know that you shouldn't have your Director of Football Operations make the payments!
Good Gawd...

terrific hire for Tennessee. The Nick Saban coaching tree will now literally be half of the SEC East, and could've been more had McEllwain not been fired... Talk about trying to replicate Alabama. (I know Pruitt isn't technically a Saban-ite because he had a long track record before Saban)

Pruitt may not be head coach material; we probably won't find out for a couple of years.

(still shocked no one contacted him)

If Sumlin goes there, then everything will have turned out fairly well for everyone except ASU, it seems.

Not quite, seeing as how Oregon could have had Chip Kelly back if Taggart had left two weeks ago instead of now.
December 7th, 2017 at 9:20 AM ^
That is an interesting thought. Are we sure Chip would have wanted to go back to Oregon? Part of me thinks yes, simply because of comfort, but another part of me thinks he probably wants to showcase that he can be successful somewhere other than Eugene.

He's coming off pretty average years at A&M. That was the ideal place for him to succeed. He came in with a lot of fanfare and started with a great season. He was an assistant there before and has deep ties in Texas and Oklahoma.
Stick him in Oregon with no ties to the area, litlle experience recruiting the PAC-12 footprint and no buzz to help in recruiting. How can anyone expect that to go better?

Michigan stumbled upon Rich Rod who was universally considered to be a HR candidate at the time.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:20 PM ^
This isn't a good hire. You can put almost anyone as DC/OC on Bama and they will be ok. Do not expect them to be about anything.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
Kirby Smart seems to be working out okay for Georgia.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:27 PM ^
I said almost anyone. Besides, Kirby had been with Bama for quite some time.
December 6th, 2017 at 10:32 PM ^
Sure. But Pruitt also has a solid track record as a DC at Georgia and FSU, and is a big-time recruiter. If you're going to hire a guy whose never been a head coach, this is about as good as it gets (though still a reletively big risk for a blue blood like Tennessee).
