great.  Have no idea if he wins appeal to play right away, but hope he does whereever he lands unless against us.  Tough schedule next year, but our defense will be even more seasoned and we are better off going into the season with 3 viable options on the qb depth chart. A lot to look forward  to imho.

The team rallied around Peters because they knew he gave them the best chance to win. I think some on here do not realize how having a great player at QB effects your team. I see some saying we could not have went 11-1 with a different QB. Did you see the difference in the Rutgers and then the Wisconsin game. Having a good QB helps your team in so many ways and having a bad QB drains the life blood out of a team. I for one was very surprised how the team competed against osu with JOK at the helm. It truly showed me Michigan with a good QB is the team to beat next year.

You  have to look at the past three years under Harbaugh and understand the handicap Michigan was giving teams. Harbaugh has this team ready to steam roll opponents in 2018. They really have just been a good QB away especially in 2016.

Patterson will only change the team chemistry in a positive way. This team first and foremost wants to win. Peters was better than Speight and JOK and the team knew it. That is why the emotional lift when he entered the game against Rutgers. The team wants the best guy at the most important position in football. Patterson will energize this team even more because they will know they will have maybe the best QB in the big ten instead of maybe the worst. Whether it is Peters starting or Patterson the team will rally because they know they have one hell a QB leading the team and they will witness the competition first hand. Of course if McCaffery wins you may see the best college QB Michigan has ever had.

Bottom line is Patterson coming to Michigan is all good. Bringing Greg Little with him is almost to good to be true. Michigan could very easily end up being ranked on top of college football heading into next year.

and that's generally the way it is with premier athletes. When an athlete gets to a certain level they enjoy being surrounded by teammates who, like them, have put in the necessary time and sacrifices to be considered among the elite. And it is not restricted to world-class athletes like P5 football players. There are many on this site who rose to the level of being considered excellent ballers in many different sports, and i'm speaking at the amateur level. We have basketball players, softball players, et. al. And i think the comon thread relative to these athletes is instead of getting to that level, then demanding whatever amateur team they played on to take no one else at their position, instead they were probably one of the recruiters for their team. Excellence attracts excellence.

Now bump it up about ten notches. These young men, through both being blessed with unnatural skill levels and a work ethic that is recognized early strive to surround themselves with the best. That is why so many transfer to other high schools, some the top public in those areas with school of choice, others that do not offer this will migrate toward the recognized top private school for ther respective sport. Look no further than Oliver Martin at receiver. Our campers came back and approached the staff en masse, telling them they found another great receiver that could help the team. And its that way at all positions. These young athletes simply do not go to UM, OSU, MSU and other P5 programs because they were guaranteed the no. 1 spot. i think we did that once with Drew and that didn't really turn out that well.

They welcome the competition, knowing if they are the winners where they've beat the best they have pretty much laid to rest further questions. It's just the way it is and fans that feel otherwise do so because it doesn't fit in with how they would have handled it which, in essence, means not a damn thing.

Our 3 biggest question marks going into next season are: QB, OL, and WR. If Shea comes, that really lowers the concern of having competent QB play (If Peters or McAffrey beat him out, that is an even better sign of their development). OL will remain a concern until the season starts. If Newsome can come back, that could help big time. WR is the position group where we could see the biggest improvement from 17 to 18.

It shouldn't be. Black and DPJ on the outside with a healthy Perry in the slot. Throw in Gentry and McKeon and that is a pretty damn good starting group. Nico, Crawford, Martin, and McDoom to spell them, leads me to believe a competent pass blocking OL and consistent QB play could take this aerial attack to where it was pre-Speight injury.

All receivers (WR+TE) should be one of the strongest groups on the team next year. Thing with the Ole Miss opportunity is, since our WR class was so big last year and we only want 1 in this year's class, you'd rather that 1 be a guy with college experience if you can get that, than have it be another freshman. If that 1 WR is a guy who is also maybe the best in the SEC well then, hot damn.

Just askin':

In a year with fewer openings for scholarship players, do we really want to spend another one on the QB position for a guy who can't play next year no matter what (as opposed to a true freshman who could have his red shirt ripped off in case of emergency) and only has two years of eligibility left?

In a world with no limits, sure we'd take him.  However, if he can only play when Peters is a RS Junior, McCaffrey is a RS Sophmore, and we have two QBs who will be Sophmores or RS Freshmen, is this a case of diminishing returns?  Wouldn't the scholarship be spent better at a position of need?  Like OT, TE (a lot of guys are going to graduate, move on in a couple of seasons), or perhaps a ST specialist.  Merely offering a kicker a scholarship tends to put you in the running for the top guys in the country.

It has been stated multiple times throughout the threads here the he himself has said he won't even transfer if he's not elligible to play immediately. I don't know if there's any truth to it.

From what I gather, it wouldn't be a magic waiver. It seems that there may have been some reluctance to stay last year for a large group of the players who knew the program was probably in trouble and those players were misled by some people in power at that time as to the severity of the infractions. If any of those people in power were anywhere near the infractions committee or otherwise a part of any-decsion-making regarding this situation, then waivers may flow freely. Some of the players, their representation, and families seem to think they will get them and fast.

We'll find out soon enough.

I see him going to UCLA. New coach and system so he will not be at a disadvantage or in a QB controversy. Will not be expected to be a Messiah. Believe I read a visit is in the works

Very unlikely he goes to UCLA. They have their next QB in DTR and you have to look at it from the point of view of Patterson. Which school has had the narrative that QB is the thing holding them back this year? Hint: It wasn't UCLA. Which team has a coach who is known to make QBs better and send them to the NFL and who also while recruiting at IMG spoke to Patterson? Hint: It wasn't Chip Kelly.

(1) Marcus Mariotta; and

(2) google Shea Patterson and UCLA. There are a 100 sites hypothesizing it.  As I said not sure if he announced a visit.

It seems like Michigan is also a very logical place but for him to land...assuming we basically retool our entire offense.

Always offends when offering a counter opinion and you get accused of trolling. Trolling is not the same as thinking.  Generally I assume people who accuse others of trolling aren't UofM alumni because they probably actually know that the word means.

Disclaimer: I am #teampeters That said - not sure I feel great about bringing in a guy who needs to learn a very complicated playbook and has high expectations to start. Granted, I am sure Harbaugh will bring those expectations down to earth (see: Speight’s comments about splitting snaps in spring. But just makes me a bit worried about team chemistry over the long term. Secondly (and this is totally just a question) - are any of the players that went to Oke Miss during the peak of Freeze’s recruiting shadiness at risk of being disqualified from playing due to potentially taking improper benefits?

He has been playing football for 2 years, so I doubt the NCAA finds something on Patterson. They had people sniffing around Ole Miss for a few years now and nothing came up. Furthermore, if you’re team Peters you should welcome the competition. Even Harbaugh believes “Iron sharpens Iron”

I think the team chemistry would be fine. If a guy helps you win, the others will really around that guy pretty quickly. It was obvious this year when okorn was in, the rest of the team lost their confidence. Winning is what matters.

It seems a lot of people don't understand Patterson's situation.  He's about as close to a first round lock for the 2019 draft as you can get.

If he comes to Michigan it will only be if he knows he can be immediately eligible.  He will play 2018 and leave early.

Sure, Brandon Peters has shown us some very good things, but you don't pass up on the chance for a talent like Patterson when the rest of your team is loaded.  Michigan loses 3 QBs with a combined 12yrs of experience.  Going into next year with Peters and his handful of games of experience and a concussion and a bunch of freshmen who haven't seen the field would be crazy if they have the shot to land Patterson.  If we want Michigan to start competing for titles this is the type of guy they need.

I think you're overestimating the likelihood that he's a first-round NFL draft pick. They don't just give those away, you know. Patterson might get there, but the NFL isn't the NBA where you get drafted in the lottery just because you were the top guy in high school. You've got to show it in college. Plus, Patterson is only like 6'1", which would make him the shortest first round QB in the past several years, aside from Manziel (and we saw how that turned out). He might be a first-rounder in the future, but I'd say it's far from a "lock."
