Rumor: REM playing halftime of The Game

Submitted by michgoblue on
A buckeye friend of mine just told me that he heard from someone in the OSU program that R.E.M. is playing halftime of The Game. I haven't heard anything about this or seen it on here. Has anyone heard this rumor? Perhaps the Band is doing something relating to R.E.M. music and my friend just got it wrong. Any info? My personal view is that regardless of whether you like or dislike R.E.M., that crap should be reserved for the NFL. College football is lucky enough to have awesome marching bands for halftime. Why replace that with a generic halftime show?

lol unless I'm missing something bands don't usually play at college games? Then again I hate commercials and halftime so I'm never around for it. I usually flip the channels or if I'm at the game I get up and walk around at halftime.

That's beside the point, though. It could be Jimi fucking Hendrix back from the dead and I wouldn't really care who was playing at halftime. JUST WIN. (Although zombie Henrix would be awesome.)

My son is currently in the MMB and while he wasn't allowed to say what they're doing for halftime, he did confirm REM has nothing to do with it.  So if there's any REM going on it will be music played by the OSU band and that's it.

an Ohio State friend of his, that is in the know of The Ohio State program, said a retired band called REM, is going to play at Michigan Stadium during the halftime of The Game. This is very reliable and makes total sense.

Lineup is all fucked up and this does not sound like their thing. Have said that..... Harbour Coat! Catapult! (Don't Go Back To) Rockville! It's the End of the World As We Know It!

Best band from the 80s not from Minneapolis

God I love Husker Du. The world just wasn't ready. They didn't have the stroke the Mats had. Like these are the songs of your generation and shit. But if you have ever been at a bar, and needed a song on the juke box, Husker Du hits that button. I like the Mats more but probably listen to Husker Du more often if that makes sense.

Mats are where my musical tastes began in earnest. My uncle gave me Sorry Ma Forgot to Take Out the Trash, when I was in second grade, and for despite that I went to law school.

But let's not sleep on Husker Du

I didn't believe anything past "buckeye friend."  The OP has bad judgement to begin with, first by carousing with buckeyes, and seondly believing anything that comes out of their mouth.

For the people who are actually curious if this is a possibility, I can confirm that R.E.M. will not be playing any halftime shows anytime soon - college or pro. And since we are discussing R.E.M., don't forget that the 25th Aniversary edtion of "Automatic For The People" just came out this month - makes a great Christmas gift:
