Looks like Otis Reese might be going elsewhere.

247 Sports now has 4-5 Crystal Balls in the last 7-10 days of Reese flipping to GA. That would be tough losing another of our initial top 3 recruits in the 2018 class. I'm sure Coach Harbaugh will be on any TN and FL kids that might be iffy with their coaching changes already / inevitably gonna happen. In Harbs I trust.

I was down in Tuscaloosa back in 2000 for a college soccer tournament and went to check out campus. I grabbed a copy of the student newspaper and the headline was that there was a frat on campus that had accepted an African American pledge. In the year 2000!!!! In 1999 there wasn't a single integrated fraternity or sorority on campus. I honestly thought it was a satire piece. That sorta scene made me pretty darn uncomfortable and I was a middle class white kid.

We aren’t even in the same conversation as Bama. They are a Vastly superior program in every way. Meanwhile the teams we are mauling are fucking Rutgers and Minnesota. Let’s see what happens when we play real competition. Our OL has failed in every game against real teams under Harbaughs staff.

I don't think this season's results, so far, should've been unexpected, but I do think that beating either Wisconsin of OSU is important for recruiting. They need to continue to look like a program on the rise.

This has been a forgone conclusion since he committed. The aubrey solomon recruitments of the world are rare

Yes. That's what he is saying and that's what will probably happen. Can't fault the kid. Smart had just started there and didn't prioritize just like harbaugh had that issue with his early second class. Hence why we lost Webber and Webb. But move on and focus on those Don Brown dudes and we will be fine. Just gotta get enough oline and skill guys in 2019.

but was having 2nd thoughts on the eve of signing day.  He wanted to be the only RB in the class and when Higdon committed, Weber stuck with Meyer.

Weber has around 250 yds for the season, thus far.  UM has 3 RBs with more.

Dobbins has over 900 yds so far.  Higdon is around 800.

So it looks like a good trade off.

The 2018 class is baffling to me. I trust the staffs development skills and their recruiting prowess. I just wonder why we keep losing out on guys that have been committed to us for a solid length of time. I hope it's not another case of Michigan not maintaining contact bc that would be maddening in my opinion. If we do lose out on Reese I hope Harbaugh can get someone of equal talent.

It's because those players have always had other options closer to home, and those other options are looking much better now than they did before the season.

Meanwhile we are treading water at best.  We are long out of the national conversation.

If you were balancing on the edge in the first place, that's enough to push you over.

We aren't even that close this year.

13th in S&P+

15th in FEI

Our defense this year is very good, it is not elite.

By comparison UGA is 8th and 1st, respectively.  Their head coach was the DC at Bama when they had a bunch of number 1 defenses.  Sooo maybe that's why?

both Ekiyor and Reese are at positions of strength (interior OL and LB)

we have 3 freshman LB's that were all highly rated ready to jump in next year as well as 2018 commit McGrone

Plus two sophomores starting. I'd bet last year's class/Khaleke's 8 TFLs and two years of eligibility remaining have been brought up by Georgia.

Hope Reese ends up blue but I have no doubt there will be a really good player at VIPER(!!!) for the foreseeable future.

While true, I thought Reese's size would be something we haven't seen since like Pierre Woods or Shawn Crable. I know he was slated for Viper or something else but he looked like a guy that could be versatile in Don Brown's defense. Like somebody above said: cover RBs out of the backfield, plus be able to blitz and set the edge.

Looks like 2019 will have to make up for 2018.

Only have a handful of high rated kids left on the board outside of Friday and Petit-Frere. Wouldn't be surprised if rest of the class is filled out with diamond in the rough types.

Ending the year beating Wisco and OSU would be great for recruiting momentum into the summer.

I know Shayne Simon was being looked at another recruit for the VIPER(!!!) position. But with ND actually doing well this year, I doubt we'll be able to get him to switch unless Kelly leaves for another job. Is there another recruit we are looking at for that position?
