Looks like Otis Reese might be going elsewhere.

remember Aubrey last year? Didn't look good after the letter goof up and looked worse when he said "F-ck Michigan", but he's here now. And he's really good friends with Otis, so hopefully everything works out in the end.

I still hold out some small hope that he re-commits, despite that making 0 sense.
At the same time, recruiting goes like this. It happens sometimes, and if/when the local schools picks it up it's hard to pull kids out.

people the way Bama does. And with Bredeson and Onwenu essentially locked in for the next two years, I can't say I can blame him.

I thought Weber signed with OSU only after Harbaugh got Higdon to flip?
November 8th, 2017 at 10:48 PM ^
This is true. Harbaugh bringing in Higdon scared off Weber. Good trade by Jim MF'ing Harbaugh, if you ask me...

but was having 2nd thoughts on the eve of signing day. He wanted to be the only RB in the class and when Higdon committed, Weber stuck with Meyer.
Weber has around 250 yds for the season, thus far. UM has 3 RBs with more.
Dobbins has over 900 yds so far. Higdon is around 800.
So it looks like a good trade off.

Truth be told, we likely would not have gotten Solomon if it was this year.
We're lucky we got him when we did.

Early commits from the South decommit all the time. It just feels worse this year because they happen to be two of our highest-ranked recruits.
November 9th, 2017 at 12:30 AM ^
unless he's there for prep school and his family is down south, that is a midwesterner squarely in our region leaving it for the south.

It's because those players have always had other options closer to home, and those other options are looking much better now than they did before the season.
Meanwhile we are treading water at best. We are long out of the national conversation.
If you were balancing on the edge in the first place, that's enough to push you over.

I'm sure all these points have a huge amount to do with it. Top players want to play for top teams, and we don't look like one right now.

Not surprising to lose a top kid from Georgia back to #1 UGA, but I am surprised on the whole at how lackluster 2018 recruiting has been

We aren't even that close this year.
13th in S&P+
15th in FEI
Our defense this year is very good, it is not elite.
By comparison UGA is 8th and 1st, respectively. Their head coach was the DC at Bama when they had a bunch of number 1 defenses. Sooo maybe that's why?

both Ekiyor and Reese are at positions of strength (interior OL and LB)
we have 3 freshman LB's that were all highly rated ready to jump in next year as well as 2018 commit McGrone
November 8th, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
Plus two sophomores starting. I'd bet last year's class/Khaleke's 8 TFLs and two years of eligibility remaining have been brought up by Georgia.
Hope Reese ends up blue but I have no doubt there will be a really good player at VIPER(!!!) for the foreseeable future.
November 8th, 2017 at 8:26 PM ^
Viper - Hudson, plus Hawkins and JKP
LB
Bush
Ross
Singleton
Anthony
Furbush
McGrone
we'll be ok

That Viper depth chart doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me.
November 8th, 2017 at 8:33 PM ^
While true, I thought Reese's size would be something we haven't seen since like Pierre Woods or Shawn Crable. I know he was slated for Viper or something else but he looked like a guy that could be versatile in Don Brown's defense. Like somebody above said: cover RBs out of the backfield, plus be able to blitz and set the edge.

Looks like 2019 will have to make up for 2018.
Only have a handful of high rated kids left on the board outside of Friday and Petit-Frere. Wouldn't be surprised if rest of the class is filled out with diamond in the rough types.
Ending the year beating Wisco and OSU would be great for recruiting momentum into the summer.

I know Shayne Simon was being looked at another recruit for the VIPER(!!!) position. But with ND actually doing well this year, I doubt we'll be able to get him to switch unless Kelly leaves for another job. Is there another recruit we are looking at for that position?
