The Brandon Peters Decision

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on
Like most everyone on the board, my knee-jerk reaction to O'Korn last night belonged nowhere near civil society. That being said, my more calm, rational perspective having returned this morning, I still think it's time for the Peters era to begin at Michigan. So much so that I can't convince myself that there's a tangible reason for O'Korn to still be the starter. What say you?

So when we start Peters do we magically get a new offensive line that can block and a new group of receivers who can catch? No? Then why does it matter? Any quarterback you put out there is going to struggle

When I saw that pass clank off his hands, I found myself saying things that weren't fit for mixed company - or a company of Marines, for that matter.

Wide open at the 30, the pass was on the money, and you've got a clear path out of bounds to stop the clock. Now think, Eddie: what did you forget to do?

I always wondered why they only used McDoom for jet sweeps or the occasional WR screen. I'd think, Why don't they use a guy with his speed as a down field target?

Maybe we just saw the answer.

Speights out for the season. If O'Korn keeps playing like that the next game or two, there's no doubt you have to play Peters some and get him in the game. The kid has been in the program two years. If he isn't ready to go by now in the offense, he might never be.

Ya harbaugh needs to put in one of his QBs. No need to waste the rest of the year on a guy who won't be there next year. Mccaffrey or peters is the future. Get the experience built up now so we don't have the struggles back to back years. It can't be worse than what we've seen already. Next year we start with big game so we can't afford to throw inexperience out there

Sick of the youth excuses. You can either play or you can’t. Freshman are playing all over the country. A true freshman QB for TX came in and torched KSU last night for almost 400 and 100. No reason Harbaugh isn’t getting one of these guys. If Peters isn’t one of these guys, let’s find out now so he can look for another one.

Does Kansas State have a top 100 D? Better question, Does it matter? I don’t really care what Texas has or doesn’t have, that’s why I’m on a Michigan blog. To your credit, It is frustrating that we rarely have had instantly dominant freshmen on the offensive side and the one we seemed to have this year got injured early.

No, people are saying that if Peters was good, he'd already be playing. Maybe he'll get better by next year, but he's not red shirting so I'm guessing there's a performance reason he was 3rd on the depth chart.

True. Those of us who feel Peters should play are doing so because he will be at UM next season and might be a better option than bringing Speight back. O'Korn is a senior and will definitely not be back.

This move is about 2018, not 2017 which is pretty much shot to hell anyway.

I say it would compound the problem. You want to ad a RS FR QB behind a line that can’t block, Rb’s that routinely blow blitz pick up (but in all fairness they did just ok last night) and receivers that routinely drop a ball if it is not spot on in the middle of their chest. Do you want Peters to suffer Devin Gardner Syndrome and be a broken shell via continuous sacks? Trotting O’Korn our there makes at least some semblance of sense, he’s a Senior, makes some tight throws and has mobility, plus at the end of the year he graduates and takes all the PTSD this line causes with him. I don’t doubt Peters is talented, I don’t even doubt he could usurp Speight next year. But don’t break him before he has a chance.

He’s been here a year and a half which makes him....a redshirt Freshmen. I’m not saying he can’t make plays, I’m not saying he can’t handle some adversity. I’m saying It will cause more problems. I don’t know if a QB outside of Brady in his prime could handle that much adversity

This may not be a popular opinion but the season is not over. All of our goals are still ahead of us. Teams can and do turn seasons around all the time. O korn is our best option to win now, stupid to call the season lost and to start preparing for next year. Let's fucking win this year!

It's not that your opinion is unpopular, every fan would love for that to happen. It's just not realistic. The same problems have played out for 5 weeks now. The coaches had two weeks to get Ulizio ready and they pulled him half way through the game. It didn't sound like it was injury related. Some will say that is proof the coaches are willing to do anything to win. Some will say that proves the coaches just don't know what they are doing. It tells me we have a built in problem this year that isn't going to fix itself.

Why is it not realistic? Probably an Issac fumble and some terrible calls away from going up 10-0 last night. More than likely win if that happens and everybody is singing a different tune. This team has the potential to win every one of their remaining games, they won't be blow outs, but with this defense they can win them all. A lot of things bounced the wrong way for Michigan last night.
