The Brandon Peters Decision

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on
Like most everyone on the board, my knee-jerk reaction to O'Korn last night belonged nowhere near civil society. That being said, my more calm, rational perspective having returned this morning, I still think it's time for the Peters era to begin at Michigan. So much so that I can't convince myself that there's a tangible reason for O'Korn to still be the starter. What say you?

I have limited knowledge of how Peters has looked in practice. I would contend however  that this is a decent time to see what the young man can do.Its the onlyvway to really know if you have something for this year or the future.

O'korn should continue to be the starter. Yes he did throw 3 int but they were not in regular game condidtions. He was throwing around a greesed pig for two quarters. Not to mention that he had no help whatsoever from his recieving core out there. I swear there might have been at a minimum of 12 dropped passes in that game last night. He was able to make plays out of sack situations and deliever good balls that were dropped (Mcdoom, HIll, Gentry). Then we have the running game that couldn't get it going and Mckeon fumbling a 25 yard gain. Also, when is any quarterback that we have going to be able to get comfortable with the OL that we have. Even if we had Rosen playing for us there would still be issues regarding protection and being able to complete passes. Bottom line is that the surrounding problems are what caused his issues, he was a bit gittery but wouldn't any QB that drops back behind this Line. He was constantly being pressured, but he was actually able to get away and run for positive yards. Brandon Peters will be the starting QB next season, and I would rather him sit out these games so he doesn't die and the line finally can mend itself together.

Agreed. O'Korn didn't play a flawless game by any means, but he made some damn good throws despite running for his life all night. Unfortunately, nobody could catch the ball or hold onto it.

Call me crazy, but O'Korn was the least of our offensive issues. He made mistakes, but you can't tell me he played worse than our receivers/TE's or the offensive line. You'd think the damn ball was 500 degrees the way it was being dropped last night.

He's a junior who was a four star and yet nothing in college? zip? nada? not even a mention of his name? Then again we have the offensive coaches' performance the last five games so not sure if their assessement can be relied upon. Somehow I don't think he's that bad and what can it hurt to give him a shot? He and Perry at least would have some rhythm going.

His play didn't go downhill until the monsoon started, at which point he was clearly rattled. With the state of our OL (and abyssmal overall running game) how can you blame him?

He made a bunch of laser sharp passes early and threw for 200 yards total. He also had some great escapes.

Plus, going to Peters is likely to ruin him... wait for a better OL.

This isnt a QB problem or an OLine problem. This is a problem across the entire offense.

The playcalling has sucked, just look at how many times we threw the ball in a monsoon.

The Oline cant block anyone.

The RBs cant handle blitz pickups nor find a hole.

The WR cant find any seperation.

The TEs are average at best.

QB has been an umitigated disaster.

Every facet of the offense has struggled mightily. Inserting Peters wont solve the probelms we face.

Let's see how things develop in the next week, and hopefully get a game in non-super-adverse conditions, then I'll start making judgements.

Then again, my expectations for this team was to come out sucking and to develop throughout the season, next year being a possible decent year even with the suepr tough schedule, and 2019 being the year I make my real judgement on harbaugh (FWIW I think we have the right guy, and we're going to have growing pains, and people need to stop raising expectations in the middle of the season vs what they were at the beginning.... then acting like a single loss is the apocolypse)

i want to agree but starting a young QB with the line issues is not going to help anyone.

It will kill the young kids confidence when he has to run for his life on every play.

Well it can't get much worse.  I would still start Korn but would give Peters 2 series in the second quarter somewhere no matter what against Indiana.
