OT-Justin Fields to Georgia
Worth nothing that the #1 overall player in this class is heading to Georgia. Have to think that Eason or Fromm will transfer in the next calendar year. Glad Fields is not going to PSU, and hope we get to play Georgia in the near future in the playoff......

was not a take for Michigan. Or MSU. Several other schools stopped recruiting him as well. He has the talent but maybe not the grades. I myself had neither. If his academics are good Michigan will be the faorite most likely.
He tore his ACL last year which might be the reason teams backed off, and they want to see how he looks this year.
October 6th, 2017 at 7:34 PM ^
I just looked up top prospects. It went Mayfield, Hutchinson then Hayes then those two so guess what you are way off base. The stuff your looking at is way outdated. They do not update and I agree those are the top three in the state by far anyways. If Michigan takes Mccall that's the top four. Michigan owns this state and takes what they want as long as Harbaugh is on the sidelines. Anyone complaining about Michigan recruiting are just plain asinine. Michigan could easily have the number one class next year and I am sure someone will find something wrong with that.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:54 AM ^
Do you consider Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Mason Rudolph, and Luke Falk game breaker types? Or does it just have to be Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts, Kelly Bryant, Lamar Jackson, and Kenny Hill?
October 6th, 2017 at 12:05 PM ^
And other than some completely stacked Alabama teams, the last QB in that mold to win a championship was Matt Flynn over ten years ago. It's clear that having a mobile QB is a huge advantage at the college level.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:17 PM ^
I wouldn't consider Jameis Winston to be all that mobile. Not a statue, but not the type that you'd ever run a zone-read with.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:20 PM ^
Wait...so you're just dismissing Bama? That's seems awfully convenient for your argument.
I also don't consider Deshaun Watson in that category. He's no where near as dynamic running the football as those guys I mentioned. He runs a 4.7 and rushed for 600 yards last year. And Winston is slower than both McCaffrey and Peters. But that's overlooked because well, we know why...
Denard rushed for twice that...and what do that get us? What has Lamar Jackson gotten for L'ville other than a Heisman?
I'd counter your argument by saying an ELITE defense is just as important. And if you have an ELITE defense...it doesn't matter if you've got Lamar Jackson or Josh Rosen. If you've got a top QB, you're going to be in the mix.
Put either of those guys on Michigan and we're right there with Bama and Clemson this season. Remove our defense...and we're Louisville or UCLA. Our defense is the reason we're better than both of those teams...even with a below average Wilton Speight for most of the year.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:28 PM ^
Obviously defenses are important, especially if you want to win a cahmpionship. I'm not dismissing Bama, as they prove my point. The USCs of the early 2000s and Alabamas of the early 2010s had an embarassment of riches at talent both on offense and defense. These systems allowed their QBs to distribute to ridiculous playmakers and thrive as long as they took care of the football.
Saban's teams of that era were criticized for not playing up to their talent level often winning games despite predictable and conservative stratey. Now look at Saban's last three QBs: Simms, Hurts, and Tagovailoa. Even Saban has come around to the advantages of having a dual-threat QB in a pro-style offense.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:19 PM ^
That was my point. And I got negged.
I want M to get the best QB out there all the time. Not slinging dirt on Mcaffery or Peters who both have great talent.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:24 AM ^
Wow, no shit. Two top 100 QBs in the last two classes, and suddenly we're awful at the position because neither are starting over two RS senior QBs? I guess it's at least good fans on this board aren't too demanding...
October 6th, 2017 at 11:44 AM ^
Before we go crazy on this guy, I think he is wanting a running QB when he says 'dynamic'. It's clear we've been targeting these types (DTR, Michael Johnson Jr) so it's not that terrible of a question, and in that sense your response doesn't even make sense. Obviously Peters and McCaffrey are both great prospects and have enormous potential under Harbaugh's tutelage, but it would be nice to get a runner in the mix as well since we are bringing in 2 QBs per class. We still have a shot at MJJ as he's yet to commit and is a '19 recruit.
October 6th, 2017 at 1:36 PM ^
despite not even starting college yet. Clearly he is not a gamebreaker despite the physical traits that we keep hearing about.

Wasn't meant to offend or rile people up.
I kinda have PTSD from QBs not working out at M. Last good QB was Henne. So yea.
I hope both Peters and Mcaffery kick ass- would love that.

Good enough to stick in the NFL for 2 years (and counting).
October 6th, 2017 at 11:23 AM ^
Peters and McCaffrey were two of the best QBs in their classes. If you mean when are we getting a dynamic running QB again, I don't know that we've ever had one outside of Denard, unless you want to go back to the 80s. And he was basically a RB playing QB, at least in the system we tried to run.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:16 PM ^
Yes I mean like a runner as well. Sorry for confusion. This Fields kid has some wheels + good arm. Can see him in the mold of Watson.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
October 6th, 2017 at 11:48 AM ^
Just cause he's black doesn't make him a runner. Peters and McCaffrey are probably both more athletic than Milton when it comes to running.
Milton is a pocket passing QB with a cannon arm. He will be able to move around in the pocket and possibly break the pocket to pick up short first downs, but don't expect him to be a read option or running QB.

Dude, almost every college-level athlete looks fast against high school competition.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:15 PM ^
October 6th, 2017 at 12:36 PM ^
“I know I’m not that fast, but I get where I need to go,” Milton laughed.
His words, not mine.
October 6th, 2017 at 12:28 PM ^
He shouldn't have called you an idiot, but you made a negative assumption about what he meant by "looks."
October 6th, 2017 at 12:31 PM ^
It's not just him, though. Even Ace wrote that Milton was a candidate to be a converted WR in the future if QB doesn't work out for him. Why isn't that assumption made about McCaffrey or Peters who are both just as athletic as Milton?
October 6th, 2017 at 1:29 PM ^
Well I get your point but in fairness to Ace, much of that comment is because Milton is a much more raw QB prospect with a very strong arm but maybe so-so mechanics (and thus more of a "project") whereas McCaffrey is generally a more polished prospect with a decent arm and less of a project. So I think there is validity to Ace's distinction.
October 6th, 2017 at 1:33 PM ^
He was trying to say that Milton was a prospect with a very high ceiling and a very low floor. People immediately took the WR thing literally. He would literally be the slowest WR at Michigan in decades. He will never be a WR.
October 6th, 2017 at 1:41 PM ^
Because Milton is very raw as a QB.
October 6th, 2017 at 1:42 PM ^
and the guy is 6'5" so not a baseless thought that Milton could be a WR or flex TE. Milton is super raw as a QB, like Gentry was, so I don't think anybody was making that claim along racial lines.
The funny thing is that McCaffrey (who was also a recruited basketball player) probably could be a TE if he put enough weight on.

I mean, we're not questioning Ace's woke-credentials here, right? I know he's got me beat by about 10 miles in that department. You can assume someone is making stereotypes, or you can ask more about what they mean. Maybe it turns out the person in question is indeed an asshole. Then you will have discovered it legitimately via polite discourse.

Have you heard of him???
October 6th, 2017 at 12:10 PM ^
He's more of a pocket passer than both Peters and McCaffrey.
October 6th, 2017 at 1:04 PM ^
are primary pocket passers but with the athleticism to pick up yards with their feet, Milton does have much more wiggle and can make guys miss in the open field. Peters and McCaffrey won't do that much at the college level. Milton's high school team just doesnt utilize his legs as much as McCaffrey's did. If Milton played for Valor Christian in Colorado I bet he'd run roughshod.
October 6th, 2017 at 7:50 PM ^
You just created your account a week ago and your handle references a peculiarly Russian institution.
Who knew that Moldovan trolls would take an interest in Michigan football.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:23 AM ^
Is he a solid pocket passer, or is he good Justin open Fields?
October 6th, 2017 at 11:26 AM ^
produces a lot of hgh school football studs. Richt's teams usually had a lot of talent, they just stubbed their toe a few times every year. The knock on Richt towards the end was similiar to Carr towards the end, lots of talent but always loses one or two games a year they shouldn't. If Smart is able to get the team to stop stubbing their toes, Georgia will be a force every year.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
I'm really hoping Georgia meets Miami in a couple bowl games the next few years and loses every time.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:33 AM ^
hope this doesn't impact Otis Reese. i bet fields recruits him hard.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:49 AM ^
I'd love to be proven wrong, but I can't help but feel like the Reese ship has sailed, even without Fields at UGA. I know we have Solomon on campus and his brother nearby, but Reese has basically lived at UGA this year and hasn't visited us since the Spring Game. I guess stranger things have happened though (i.e. Solomon).

Wouldn't be surprised to see Eason reach out to Harbaugh...
October 6th, 2017 at 12:48 PM ^
I'd be really curious to see if Harbaugh would take Eason. He was okay as a true freshman last year (55%, 6.5 YPA, 16-8 TD-INT), and wouldn't be able to play in 2018. If O'Korn plays really well with Speight out (and if he's truly out for the rest of the season as some rumors suggest), the 2018 starter spot is suddenly wide, wide open. I think it'd come down to, does Harbaugh think either Peters or McCaffrey will be ready to start next season? If so, he might not be willing to take on Eason with no clear path to ever be a starter.
October 6th, 2017 at 2:16 PM ^
October 6th, 2017 at 2:27 PM ^
I know they are talking about changing the transfer rules, but have they already? As the current rules stand, if Eason transfers wouldn't he have to sit in 2018? 2019 would be the first year Eason could play.
October 6th, 2017 at 11:42 AM ^
Must be doing something right.
