Speight Appreciation Thread

Submitted by chickenpotpie on

All of his flaws aside, I wish him a good recovery, and thank him for leading us to 13-3 as a starter.

MOD EDIT - We will remove the confusing sentence and keep this one. - LSA

I like Speight as a person. As a player, not so much. Seems like a good kid. Never hear about him getting into trouble. But he is very clearly not the best option for the team.

It is much more clear now that he was the best of bad choices.  O'Korn today showed that he wasn't prectice O'Korn.  Harbaugh has always said that you get better at football by playing football, and I can't think of a better capsule example of that than O'Korn's play today.

Speight is a great guy who is not a great quarterback.  I hope he gets some redemption later this year and a better chance with another team as a grad transfer.

Get better. No matter what happens, you fired my ass up against OSU with the 4th down td in OT. And you held up 2 fingers. Cause you can ball. No matter what happens, I think you can ball. Get well.

Best wishes for Wilton's recovery, which is infinitely more what matters, than the outcome of a football game.

We can bop his bishop all day, but the bottom line is this offense was stagnant with him as QB. He seems broken. Up until today I thought he was our best option, but regardless of his health, I don't want him to play unless O'Korn is hurt. It's time to pass the torch.

While I hope he gets better, not sure this warrents a thread. I don't think there's been anything to be appreciative of this season. Glad to see the offense finally gain an identity.

Yeah it must be a terrible life having a free ride to Michigan and having the opportunity to be the starting QB for the Wolverines. The sacrifice it must of taken...

If you are referring to sacrifice as taking hits; 1. This is football. 2. Devin Gardner got destroyed way more than Wilton and its not even close. Taking hits is in the job description. We all want Wilton to be healthy but some of these replies are ridiculous. Is Wilton one of our QBs or the Pope?

His Dudeness

Speight or O'Korn we are still going 9-3 this year and that's fine. We aren't there yet. Everyone needs to settle down. If you think O'Korn isn't going to cost us a game you're nuts. Harbaugh would know who the starting QB should be. Not a bunch of dudes watching a college football game. I hope Speight comes back but he may have lost his job today. That's not a good thing.

You don't think coaches can make mistakes? What about the Bledsoe/Brady situation at New England in the past? I'm confident that Okorn can outperform Speight, and I don't think that takes anything away from Speight. Some guys are just gamers. Of course this is just one game so we shouldn't be saying Okorn for Heisman or anything crazy. We'll have to see if he stays consistent in the upcoming games.

I'm hoping he's ok. JOK will get a chance to lead, and maybe he'll take that opportunity and won't let it go. Speight is only a junior, so even if he doesnt come back as a starter this year, he's probably on the team next year and competing for a starting spot.

Gonna need Speight again this season. I like watching JOK, but given how he throws his body around, he’s likely to get dinged at some point. Hopefully Wilton is ready to step in when needed

"We will always need you?" haha ummm... what? I don't know if I've ever seen such a strange sensitive sentiment towards a player before. It's as if every negative comment regarding his play at QB is taken as a personal attack to his diehard fans. This thread only exists because of that same sentiment. Before this game I argued with a mgoblogger who described O'Korn as "buttered ass." But that's ok, its just John not Wilton. There are rumors Crawford may have a serious injury...where is his appreciation thread? Oh wait its ok to call him names too. He drops Speight passes. Wilton, get well soon buddy. Mgoblog, let's collectively grow a pair.

Some of you, including the OP, appear to be unclear on the concept of an appreciation thread.

I'd have loved to see what Speight could do with the 2nd half's playcalling. He got us to 3-0 this year and would've gotten us to 4-0 so far if they hadn't gone after his neck. I hope he's ok.

for getting us to 3 and 0 but no one knows if we would have won that game with Wilton instead of O corn. I do know from what I saw tonight in JOK that he's a far better passer. He consistently leads the receivers getting them the ball in stride and away from the defender. Is only interception came Anna pass bouncing off a receiver.

OK, so I took out the possibly poorly worded sentence and kept the rest, so now this should look hopefully more like an appreciation thread and eliminate the need for the second, clarifying thread.

That's my hope, but then I am often wrong around here.
