Purdue fans predictions and comments for the Michigan game

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

To say that some Purdue fans are confident might be a massive understatement. They are riding high right now after upsetting Missouri, and expect no less against Michigan.

I was surfing around Big Ten blogs and message boards and I found a few comments that were a little mouthy from Purdue fans IMO, and I thought I'd post them here - just in case you weren't properly motivated.

Purdue could mess around and beat Michigan next week. Jeff Brohm is a difference maker.

Purdue upsets Michigan next week. You heard it here first
It feels strange to type this, but Purdue is the biggest test Michigan's defense has faced to this point.
Yes, Purdue is good enough to beat Michigan
Purdue has actually beaten Ohio State more times in the last 10 years than Michigan has.

Oh, and we needed fewer tries too.

Brohm is going to scheme against a very strong defense and Purdue is not going to get shut down completely. I am not expecting another 35-42 points, but We’re going to score some. Can we keep Michigan kicking field goals or worse?
I don’t think Michigan has the offensive talent to run away from us, let alone most teams in the Big Ten.
Purdue has more wins over Ohio State since 2004 than Michigan

I say that’s legit.

Michigan is way overrated
I wouldn't be surprised if UM ended up 6 - 6 or 7 - 5. I give UM at least 3 BIG victories because of their defense but unless our offense improves drastically from it's putrid play the previous two weeks against inferior opponents Purdue fans will be celebrating a decisive victory.

I agree with some fans here, if Purdue is able to get an early lead, UM simply doesn't have the offense to score enough points.
If Purdue can't beat UM then Brohm needs to be fired. The Big Ten is way down this year except Penn State which the only team getting a major bowl invite. Harbaugh has nothing to prove this year because if you true football fans have been paying any attention Harbaugh is heading to the Colts next year.
I watched them play a good but not great AFA team yesterday. Their QB did not throw accurately and made some poor decisions. Michigan defense is solid but certainly vulnerable, didn't have much of a pass rush on smaller AFA OL.

We can beat these guys.
Michigan is certainly beatable
Playing in front of a sellout homecoming crowd against atop ten team...I can't see a let down. Michigan could handle them but I dont think it would be because we're not ready to play.
We cannot lose to this clown
Two games in a row with mediocre performances till 4 the qtr. Should Purdue strike early and often by getting points, it might be too late for Michigan to catch up.
This year is different and feels different. We now know how to score with a balanced attack. Our defense plays stingy as well.
Purdue 35 MI 24.
Kids believing in themselves is the key,he is telling them right now lets win our first big ten game at home in front of a sellout crowd, shock the world again.
Purdue will blow the game open if Michigan plays as lethargic as they have in the past two games in the red zone thru 3 quarters. My hunch stays with a track race pace that Michigan cannot keep up with. Holding officially at Purdue 35 Michigan 24.
Michigan is ripe for the picking. I know we haven't beat a ranked team in yrs. It will happen on 9/23.
My guess is that Harbaugh tries to simply out tough and out muscle Purdue (which a team hasn't either tried or been able to) to run them down in the late 3rd and 4th quarter...my guess is that is what Missouri wanted to do but when Purdue got up 21-0 in the first quarter, that went to hell and a hand basket.
If you enjoyed watching us crush Missouri, you'll enjoy what Brohm has in store for Michigan. 42-12 Boilers
The great thing about playing Michigan right now is their quarterback SUCKS! Boiler the fuck up baby!
Brohm has us on a path to 9-3, just like Tiller in '97. We're going to whup that ass on Sept 23 and I'm going to say I told ya so
35-7 Boilermakers. Michigan is garbage.
They can't score in the red zone HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Fuck Michigan
Sellout crowd = huge Purdue win
Michigan is scared
Jeff Brohm > Don Brown
I have been waiting a long, long time for a huge Purdue upset, and I can feel it coming this Saturday against Michigan. For 4 yrs with Hazell we sucked, but now we have a legitimate coach in Brohm. Michigan is 100 percent overrated and 100 percent beatable. They have no idea what's in store for them. Harbaugh's "vaunted offense" has been a complete joke this year. Their defense will have no answer for Brohm's schemes. He's a brilliant play caller. Expect this to be just like the Missouri game. Michigan would get walloped by Missouri… we shut THEM DOWN. Can Michigan even move the ball? Can they even score points? We get through and sack Speight once and HE'S DONE. There is no reason why we can't win this game. Michigan dies officially on September 23, a day that will live in Purdue football history forever.
What a joy it would be to embarrass Michigan on national tv
Stat of the Day:
MICHIGAN SUCKS
Don Brown vs Jeff Brohm? One is a genius and the other coaches for Michigan. Brohm wins every day
Purdue wins and the meltdown from Michigan fans will be EPIC
This will be my daughter's first game and she is so excited to watch us beat Michigan.
Purdue 42, MI 6

It looks like most of this is from fans and not Purdue players/staff. I don't think Michigan requires additional motivation for any game. But if someone wanted to criticise our team for lackluster effort (not accurate, but bear with me), bulletin board material can't hurt.

But, even with our offense still trying to find itself, we should win this game against the 45th ranked offense and 69th ranked defense. Michigan favored by 10 seems about right considering it's a road game. GO BLUE!!!

They must've etched our game and noticed the QB situation. Unlike the people that write for this site, they are not blind with denial to the disaster that is Speight.

"Didn't have much of a pass rush against a smaller AF OL."

3 sacks on maybe a dozen drop backs, and AF maybe had 2 throws that weren't rushed because of 4 guys bearing down on the QB. And, more importantly, AF RUNS THE GOD DAMN TRIPLE OPTION!

Let this be a lesson to us all, never do meth, not even once.

"Purdue has one sack through three games, which is dead last in the country. They’re averaging 2.7 TFLs per game, which is dead last in the country"
Louisville I can buy but Ohio and Missouri are complete garbage teams.

This is fucking hilarious considering that Purdue has one sack through three games.

This is a great point. Therein lies the folly in drawing conclusions about large populations from people that are vocal on the internet. Is Purdue's fanbase actually this confident? I could probably cherry-pick quotes from Michigan fans online to paint the picture that Harbaugh is on the hot seat.

Still a funny aggregate of quotes though.

has been playing very good up to now and let's be honest our offense hasn't exactly put fear into anyone.  I can see why their fans are optimistic. But, truth is we still have better athletes and coaches and when it's done Michigan will come out on top. But, I don't think we blow them out, it will be a tough game.

I didn't know Purdue had football fans.

Nothing any of those fans said fazed me until I saw the bit about our defense having no pass rush. Yeah okay.....Michigan already, through three games, has 13 sacks and nearly 30 TFL on the year. No pass rush my fat hairy ass.

Not at all saying Saturday won't be a tough game, but Blough could be spending a vast majority of the day running for his life.

this happens with every school that has been down forever. one glimpse of success and they think they  have arrived.  it probably will be a good game but no one on the michigan sideline is going to get intimidated or scared. unlike purdue, michigan is use  to success.

I know the view of UF is skewed by them having only played one game since playing UM but do people really think Purdue is that much better than them??? Or even as good? I think Purdue is much improved from last year and is good enough to be dangerous but I'm not sure they've proved they're top 25 good. Against each team they played they passed for fewer yards than almost every one of that team's other opponents:

Purdue 273 passing yards v Mizz

Mizz St 353 passing yards v Mizz

SC 187 passing yards v Mizz

Purdue 295 passing yards v Ohio

Kansas 343 passing yards v Ohio 343 (KU was on the road while Purdue was at home)

Hampton 67 passing yards v Ohio

Purdue 293 passing yards v Louisville

UNC 384 passing yards v Louisville

Clemson 316 passing yards v Louisville

UM's defense is better Louisville and Ohio by a huge margin. UM is 2nd in S&P+ and Louisville is 39th while Ohio is 69th. They aren't even in the same league as UM and Purdue wasn't even the biggest challenges those defenses faced.

UF was/is dysfunctional but I don't buy that Purdue is going to roll out as many talented players and test the defense more. Will the offense be more organized, prepared, and focused? Absolutely. Will the coaching probably be better? Yea. But if Purdue's offense is the biggest challenge UM will have faced its because it'll be their first true road game. This team should not sleep on Purdue and if the offense is not clicking this will be an uncomfortable game for UM fans and UM could lose* but I don't think the game will be close because of our defense facing its toughest test.

*This wouldn't be the worst game to lose. Most of us expected a game that we shouldn't lose to be lost and early in the season right before the bye against a non rival is probably the best time for that to happen. Gives us time to recover, takes off some pressure from the young guys, probably exposes some weaknesses that leads to teachable moments and get the team acclimated to a rowdy road environment. Still think we win by at least 10 though.

Do not speak for me!

I think Purdue is improved, but let's face it. We were lucky to stay competitive with Louisville, and Michigan is not Louisville. Purdue is respectable, but short of extreme fumble luck, this game is right about where the line is. I have something like 31-21 Michigan.
