Partridge: Nordin Could Hit from 70

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Sorry for another Wild Thing thread, but Chris Partridge was asked today what Quinn Nordin's range is. He said Nordin has hit from 66 and 67 in practice, and could hit from 70 if he was well-rested. Also said that 55 is his comfort zone.

If we make it to our own 47 late in the first half, I'm hoping Harbaugh lets him try that 70-yarder.

Apologies for the Freep link:

IMO that's the toughest game of the year...I'll take the heart attack game winner from Nordin. Just win it, please dear sweet baby Jesus, let's win it!

That said, they're a REALLY good team, it's in Happy Valley, at night, and they're PISSED OFF about last year. If we don't play our best game of the season, I don't think we stand a chance until Franklin goes full Franklin, and you never go FULL Franklin.

getting ahead of ourselves. After all, having a decent freshman kicker with a good attitude would not be plenty to be thankful at this point.

So, it's a good thing that every time we get to or past our own 47, we can now just send Mr. Automatic out there for the 70yd or less field goal, regardless of down, distance, or game situation!

Seriously, though, sounds like a great kid, and great asset to the team.

Exchanged "go blue's" with another Michigan tee wearing younger guy (younger then me):) in a Florida supermarket 2 winters ago. Got to chatting, discover he's Brandon Kornblue who according to him was a fifth string kicker for Michigan in the early 2000's. I vaguely remember the name. He lives in a Florida now and told me he coaches a kid Harbaugh poached from PSU and this kid is the best high school kicker he's ever seen. That kid, Quinn Nordin. So far, Kornblue is right on.

I met Quinn a couple times when he was visiting UM as a recruit.  Very confident kid.  I remember giving him a situation: down 1 against OSU, 3 seconds left in the game, millions of people watching.  You're put out to kick a FG to win us the game.  What would you be thinking/feeling?

Quinn just replied "I live for that type of situation. Thats where I thrive"

Knew right then we had a great one comin to UM.

would have been from close to 70.  On the other hand, I would not want to count on that in bad or cold weather.  November probably brings a bit shorter range.

I'd love to hear "Wild Thing" in stadium as Nordin came in. Nice to have something no one else is doing right now. Maybe juice the crowd up sometimes . . . however, that's predicated on him continuing to be pretty much a sure thing.

Thank god Harbaugh snagged this kid. I happen think he'll be a annual top 10 type kicker)

Imagine how insufferable and hated he'd be as a Penn State player, maybe even kicking FGs against us.

Top 10 type kicker?

Buddy he's already Top 3 if he simply continues kicking how he has in his first  3 games. One could easily argue he is the best in CFB right now. Even some analyst joked "Nordin has already won Big Ten Kicker of the year before entering Big Ten play.

Top 10 is insulting

11 seconds left, Michigan up 56-0, ball at midfield. JH calls TO, then yells across field at JF "ICE HIM! C'MON! ICE HIM!" while pointing at Nordin. JH then sends FG unit out for the 67 yarder to win 59-0.

apply in college football? If so, Nordin would be in range with a catch at our own 40. That could significantly change the end of half strategy by Harbaugh and I could see JH as one of the few coaches savvy enough to utilize an obscure part of the rule book.

I'm really confused on how this would change anything in terms of strategy at the end of the half.  If the opponent is punting then they are just going to punt it out of bounds, if the clock will run out during the play.  No team is going to attempt an on side kick at the end of the first half, if they are we probably won't need the three points?  As for the end of the game and the other teams is attempting an on side kick and we recover it, the games probably over.  Take a knee and go celebrate.

We have a future all time great kicker in our midst ladies and gents

Enjoy it while it lasts. Which is luckily at least 3 years because hes already so good as a freshman!!!!

By his Junior year he is going to be as reliable as Jason Hanson

That kid is a stud kicker. That sleepover was a hell of an investment and for some reason me thinks he bangs a 50+ yarder for the game in Happy Valley on Oct 21. Full Paul Bunyan legend mode will rightfully commence. Kid is honestly awesome. Never been this impressed by a kicker since Graham Gano.
