One Frame At A Time: Air Force
This week, redemption is spelled C-h-a-s-e.
[Hit THE JUMP for a whole lot of big hits and DPJ running by many people.]
A NOTE ON DOWNLOADING GFYCATS
I've noticed a few comments about the low quality of some gifs when you download from the gfycat page. I think I found a workaround.
1. If you click any of the honorable mention links, you'll go right to the page you need. If you click on the gfycat embeds, they take you to a slightly different page, so you'll need to change the URL from gfycat.com/gifs/detail/[gif name] to gfycat.com/[gif name].
2. Click on the settings button in the lower right corner to bring up a number of options. This lets you set the quality of the gfycat, toy with the playback speed (highly recommended), play it in reverse, and download GIF versions. You'll want to hit "open large GIF format" because the small ones are of essentially unusable quality.
3. I haven't figured out a rhyme or reason to this, but sometimes that's all you need to do and sometimes that link just takes you back to the original gfycat. If the "open large GIF format" URL is thumbs.gfycat.com/[gif name]-max-14mb.gif, you're good to go.
4. The URL may just be gfycat.com/[gif name], however. If that's the case, simply copy and paste the gif name (the random three-word combination in the URL) and use the correct URL (thumbs.gfycat.com/[gif name]-max-14mb.gif) instead. Now you should be able to load the GIF, right-click, and save. I'm not sure this method is foolproof yet but it's been working for me so far today.
THE WHOLE ALBUM
HONORABLE MENTION
Isaac's first near-touchdown.
David Long third down stop.
DPJ long gain on screen.
Kinnel and Hill hold the edge.
Josh Ross and Jaylen Kelly-Powell authoratative special teams tackle.
Hill and Hudson critical red zone TFL.
Gary, Winovich meet at QB.
Higdon's touchdown run.
10. Rabid Squirrel Sack
Seeing this at least once a game is something to which I can get very accustomed.
9. Push, Chase
Oh, just a 260-pound weakside end knocking an offensive lineman into the backfield, shedding, and almost single-handedly shutting down the option:
Yes, he is also good at the pass-rushing, especially when the opponent attempt to block him with a running back:
8. HOTY (Hugger of the Year)
Aw.
7. Never. Schedule. Air. Force.
Part one:
Part two:
Part three:
Thanks, Dave.
6. Facing Michigan's Defense Looks Un-Fun
This was, remarkably, about as good as this play could go for Air Force.
5. Big Hit, Offense Edition
Now that's a blitz pickup.
4. Handshake Redemption
Winovich signalling for the two-timer as he walks up really adds something here.
3. Big Hit, Defense Edition
Thunk.
2. Murder, Rashan Gary Edition
Hide the women and children. And the animals. And the men.
FRAMES OF THE GAME: RUNNING PAST PEOPLES
Well, sure, I'll watch that again:

You should continue that gif to include him adjusting his pads as he's walking throught he USAF players. He looked like a baaaad man.

From the second angle, it looks like DPJ makes that return a lot harder than it needed to be... Juke a 300lb lineman in space and he's gone. Instead he cuts back to the right, into traffic, and needs to shrug off a tackle from the kicker.

Looks to me like Glasgow is kind of in the way of that route, and at full speed I don't know that DPJ can even make that move around Glasgow and then around the lineman.

it only applies if your defense is getting gashed by their triple option. the defense was fine.
pretty sure all of those harbaugh clips were after offensive failures (one was after the terrible 3rd and goal HB draw). those have nothing to do with scheduling air force

i just think the time at practice would have been better spent on other things that will help up later in the season.
September 19th, 2017 at 2:27 PM ^
the only practice wasted was for the defense, and they will be fine.

There's no upside and a bunch of downside to scheduling Air Force. That's where the narrative comes from. Yeah, it's easy to gripe about it in hindsight, but only then.

no win game. You beat them and your suppose to because it's Air Force. If it's close or your upset it's all over sports center and people are giving you crap for loosing to Air Force. They are a tough team, that is tough to play against and will always put up a fight.
Bottom line don't ever schedule Air Force.

That and all the cut blocks they employ exposes our guys to unnecessary injury risk.

I thought the Harbaugh grimmace when the score was 13 to 16 was immediately after Metellus/Kinnel got torched for a TD

I'm 99.9% sure if anyone tried to sell Harbaugh on the "Never Schedule Air Force" narrative, the response from Harbaugh would be "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED."
There's something inherently cowardly from not challenging a service academy because you think they might beat you because they are too "different-y." Harbaugh doesn't strike me as the type of person that would shy away from a triple option team just because it requires effort to plan a defense.

Every game I look at Devin Bush and don't think he is big enough to play LB. The next play he runs over two lineman and smashes the QB. It's like he hears me questioning him...

We have some serious athletes. Let the boys loose and watch them make plays. Bullish

no doubt. watching that rashan gary pursuit and hit, i first noticed hurst. almost looks like its set on fast forward. dont get me wrong, its really impressive how quickly and violently gary disengages and pursues down the line to get hat on ball. hes a freak. but hurst looks equally impressive in the middle, if not more so.
changes the whole game when your DL not only do their job, maintain gap discipline and keep backers clean but also consistently shed blocks and make plays...its a beautiful thing
September 19th, 2017 at 2:24 PM ^
DPJ has that loping gate where he looks like he's running in slow motion, but he's suddenly 10 yard down field beyond eeeeeeeery body....
Rashan is a man-beast!
But Dang..... can you say Devin Mutherfuckinggoddam Bush!!!!!!!!!

I love how comes from the OTHER side of the field to run down the play and deliver that hit.
September 19th, 2017 at 2:51 PM ^
Not only that. He delivers the hit, falls down, immediately gets back up and is the 2nd guy to the ball.

I love the same one, the blond girl with the huge smile, she just seems to know that something went wrong but fuckit she's having a good time.

That Higdon block was my favorite. Crushed that guy, then maintained the block until after the ball was gone.

I've watched the DPJ punt return so many times.
September 19th, 2017 at 3:31 PM ^
Higdon was legit...but Rashan is a robot. The AF QB saw how was coming and he was like..naw.....but still got whammied.
What an animal, so effortless too, he just boomed him
September 19th, 2017 at 3:39 PM ^
That Bush sack was so impressive in person but watching different angles of it is just insane. His closing speed is absolutely ridiculous.
September 19th, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
I liked the RB feet in the McCray hit. Looks like he is still trying to run, but is in the air.
