Thanks for the reminder.  i'm DVRing it since i'll be at work.  The Thompsons are must watch TV.  KJ potentially getting some PT is a nice bonus.

07/11/2018 - 1:30pm Rooting for England, but…

Rooting for England, but either way I think France wins it all.  Too much talent all over the field. Mbappe is just fun to watch and should make France a tough team for years to come.

Abdul has a wicked poke check.  Appreciate the content.  Thanks Brian!

06/02/2018 - 2:50pm Not quite

The elite 11 mvp usually ends up being pretty decent. Jameis Winston, Shea Patterson, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Tua, Tanner Mangum, Mark Sanchez, etc. the others are all hit or miss. If you have 24 kids a year they can’t all be stars or even starters.

04/23/2018 - 2:08pm Disagree

I don't think this infringes on anyone's IP.  If you can't do this, you should never be able to create a game with any ability to customize.  And in fact, if you did give players in your game actual names, you'd better be darn sure nobody has that exact name, or else they could sue for IP infringement.

And Madden would probably also be due for a lawsuit, since you have the ability to create players in that game.  Really, any game out there today could be sued if you can customize players.

At some point common sense needs to take over from the lawyers.

04/20/2018 - 4:18pm chase

JP said all along that the plan was to move him to offense once his stick skills got better.  And a lot of people think the SSDM is one of the most important positions on the team, since that's basically who the opponent targets wtih midfield dodges whenever they can.

But he's been a revelation this year.  His quickness allows him to consistently beat his defender, draw a slide and get the defense rotating.  I would consider him our most important midfielder, but only because I feel like Noseworthy is really still a crease attackman.

Also heard today that Conor Ford left the program.  Not sure what's going on there.

04/13/2018 - 3:50pm away games

I always felt it mattered a bit more than usual if you flew to the game.  Maybe the mesh technology is better these days, but I could always tell that my pocket would misform due to the cold/humidity on the airplane.  If you aren't completely comfortable with your pocket, that can make quite a difference.

04/04/2018 - 3:45pm Agreed

And I never really thought it was so much the AD or Izzo/Dantonio as much as the Ingham County Prosecutor.

04/03/2018 - 10:33am Interesting

I'm not sure 5 practices in or wherever we are is any real indicator, but if we are switching to more RPO and plays that can take advantage of the QB's ability to run for Patterson, I can see that McCaffery might pick that up quicker than Peters.

04/02/2018 - 12:25pm Income

Agreed.  With how much revenue they may lose due to title IX, and expenses from lawsuits/investigations, firing coaches from two highly profitable programs doesn't seem likely.  Especially when they are possibly the best 2 coaches they've ever had for each of their programs.  It's all about protecting the institution, and those programs bring in lots of revenue if the status quo can hold.

03/26/2018 - 10:56am Conference Play

If they go 3-2 in conference, they'll get another game via conference tournament, so a 3-3 record would leave them at 10-5 for the year.  Assuming that meant wins against PSU, Rutgers and OSU we likely would only have 2 quality (ranked) wins, so tough to get an at large with that.  Just ask Rutgers, who at one point was ranked #1 in the country last year and didn't get an at-large.  Maybe need to steal another one in the conference tourney.

03/21/2018 - 6:18pm UMBC

Probably need to beat UMBC this weekend to be ranked next week. They can be a tough out!

Amazing win.

03/21/2018 - 4:55pm Nice half

Any half you lead ND is a pretty good half.  Now to see if we can finish.  Neither team has really had a run yet.

03/21/2018 - 4:31pm Decent Start

First quarter looked decent on offense, but could have been much worse on defense.  ND is getting some very quality looks from their attack, and we're having trouble clearing.  Picking up some penalties too.

03/21/2018 - 1:39pm ND

I'll be watching as well, should be a good barometer for how far this team has come.  The last trip to south bend did not go well, losing 15-6.  Face-off play and possessions in general will be key to keeping Michigan in the game to start, allowing them to build up some confidence.  Against Penn and Yale, the score was close at the end of the 3rd, but they each pulled away in the 4th.

And I agree, ND is overrated this year.  Not the same team they've been the past few years.

03/17/2018 - 4:49pm Great effort

Great effort although there are still a few things to clean up. A number of penalties and a few giveaways when they should be killing the clock. Tough to tell how good that Marquette team is, they are missing their top scorer and FOGO. But can’t complain about a decisive victory.

03/17/2018 - 3:21pm Marquette

I scored a goal in that game as it was so cold my stick shattered as I shot and the goalie actually moved out of the way. The shattered titanium would have cut him pretty nasty, so he’s lucky he did.

Team looking great so far this quarter. Having heidt back looks to be helping.

03/17/2018 - 2:06pm Women’s team

What a game by the women’s team, beating Ohio State. Their first win at home and first ever big ten win. They had a few disappointing games so far this year, but this will really help build their confidence. And important for the new coach to show the players some progress.

03/16/2018 - 1:00pm Great article

Really enjoyed the article.  It's good to hear what makes him to great technically.

03/09/2018 - 9:01pm Finish

Way to finish. They were in the Ivy League games, but couldn’t keep up in the 2nd half. Good to see them take control and finish.

03/07/2018 - 8:18pm Agree with Izzo

I have to agree with Izzo here. At 29-4 the sky isn’t falling. I think the fans just don’t realize that Michigan is actually good now, and are making it seem worse than it is.

Granted they probably aren’t as good as their record, but they can still make a lot of noise in the tourney. This is a team that was ranked number 1 not too long ago.

03/07/2018 - 3:31pm Refs

Unfortunately one of those teams wears stripped uniforms, was at the Iowa game and seems to show up at random...

03/06/2018 - 5:42pm Agreed

I don’t know that Beilein countered so much as the guys on the floor knew to read each situation on the fly and knew exactly what to do. The credit to Beilein is that he of course taught his players how to do this.

02/24/2018 - 9:44am MSU

I could see someone making a movie about Rachel den Hollander. Everything she went through to finally get someone to believe her, and even then the school continually denying everything. Finally ending with his total destruction in court and everyone who denied her getting what was coming to them.

02/11/2018 - 11:10am Thanks for the writeup

I was actually on that team that beat Sienna 13-4.  I still keep a picture from after that game, shaved head and all.

Yesterday seemed like a promising start.  Buckenavage and Mack seem to be pleasant surprises at attack.  Given coach Conry's defensive background, and our depth at goalie, I'm expecting some steps big forward on defense.

01/24/2018 - 12:54pm Grad transfer

Since he's a grad transfer, maybe his priority is to play school?

01/22/2018 - 2:34pm billing

I have to the think the girl or her mom told the clinic of the abuse, and that the invoice should be waived.  In which case it is no longer a clerical error as someone knew and should have fixed it right away.

If they didn't tell the clinic, why would the victim bring it up as if the clinic should have known?

01/03/2018 - 2:36pm Play calling

So who would call the RPOs?

12/14/2017 - 8:05am Dantontio is an enabler...

Dantontio is an enabler...

12/13/2017 - 10:13am playbook

On ESPN yesterday they said that before the Cincinnatti game last year they asked Harbaugh how many plays were in the playbook and he said 250.  For Ole Miss they said it was 25.  Might explain why it took so long to get comfortable enough to put in Peters.

12/02/2017 - 4:39pm MSU

Is he trying to flip to MSU?

11/29/2017 - 4:21pm Some possible explanation

Without any facts to back this up, it could be possible that our D has faced fewer plays (lots of 3 & out, our O dictates a slow pace).  Additionally, teams counter our defense by quick throws/screens, etc.  Tough to get a holding call if the QB gets the ball out of his hands as soon as he gets it.

I doubt that would explain the full difference though.

10/23/2017 - 4:34pm Totally agree

Couldn't agree more.  Barstool is supposed to be politically incorrect, vulgar and immature.  ESPN would completely water that down and ruin the product.

It's probably best that it happened this way, rather than some media firestorm because ESPN (barstool) made an off color joke about a political person/view, anthem protests or whatever else might offend somebody.  This way they can say they were just too much for live TV.

09/21/2017 - 4:30pm Obligatory

Everybody murders...

09/19/2017 - 2:20pm Practice

i just think the time at practice would have been better spent on other things that will help up later in the season.

09/19/2017 - 9:57am He doesn't seem to explain

He doesn't seem to explain why the offense is broken.  He just states that the numbers are bad, particularly on first down.  I was hoping to learn why the numbers were bad, which was something I think we all already knew.

09/08/2017 - 2:00pm Pioneer

Anyone know what time you'd need to be there to get parking at Pioneer?

08/16/2017 - 5:37pm yep

I wouldn't put it past him to be utilizing the services himself but with his recruiting record I can't imagine the recruits weren't benefiting here.

07/28/2017 - 1:22pm Basketball

Agree it's NBA basketball.  The teams that win are the teams with superstar players, not superstar coaches (like NCAA football).  NCAA basketball you need both good coaches and good players to be successful.  A good coach regularly gets his team to the tourney, and a good coach with some star players often wins it.

Baseball should also be up there.  So much of those decisions are based on probability, so it's just following an already written script.  Baseball it seems the coaches need to have an eye for talent moreso than in the NBA as the NBA it's just so easy to identify who your key players are and what roles they can fill.

06/27/2017 - 2:10pm Nielsen

She's definitely young but she has a fantastic resume for her age.  You can't do much more than what she's done.  A bit of a risk given her age but I think a risk worth taking.

06/23/2017 - 8:44am Dantonio

How is dantonio not on the list? 3-9 with half the team newly on parole should get you a pretty short leash.

06/21/2017 - 1:40pm Conry

I'm curious if the new coach will update/involve the alumni like JP did, or try to make a total break from the club background.  I loved going to the alumni games, even if we were just playing each other.  His email updates were great reading material, and I've always looked forward to O'Leary's annual videos.  Made me feel more invested as an alumnus/fan/donor.

06/21/2017 - 9:13am Pay

I had heard something different on pay.  Amplo is currently a top 5(ish) paid coach AND has some very highly paid assistants.  I had heard we were willing to match on pay, but not total budget for the assistants.  So head coach pay would have been at market, but weren't willing to go above market on assistants.

I'm not concerned by potential coaches turning them down.  Many are established where they are and have families there.  Getting a job that maybe pays another $20k wouldn't be enough to get many people to leave their families.  This isn't football/basketball.  Coaches stick around for a while and the pay isn't enough to get buy anyone you want.

06/20/2017 - 6:08pm Great hire

Would be very happy with this if true. Would like to see him coach the defense, and give the traditional defensive coordinator position to a fogo coach.

06/15/2017 - 3:49pm 40's

I coached a high school lacrosse team and we tested 40's every year as part of tryouts, electronically timed.  Our fastest athletes were consistently around the 4.6 range.  Not world class, but very good athletes near their prime.  The top half were probably around or under 5.0.

06/11/2017 - 9:51pm Pay

Read the laxpower thread. Someone looked up the actual salaries and you can see they are very similar for non revenue sports and in a number of cases the women's coach makes more (soccer for example).

We have a lot of parts to get in place/develop before we can expect to beat 2 big10 teams (fogo, dodging attackman, lockdown defender, etc.). Rutgers was #1 in the country this year and couldn't get it done. It will not be an easy task. I would say we may not be far from competing, but winning will be tough.

06/11/2017 - 6:20pm Salary

If we paid top dollar for every coach the athletic department would be in a lot worse position than they are now. There is also some belief that for non-revenue sports we pay the same for both men's and women's coaches. The data suggests that is basically true, and if we won't stray from that, paying a top men's coach would require paying nearly as much for a women's coach. That might be more than Warde is willing to give.

That said we need to offer enough to get a top coach and convince them to relocate and take over a last in the conference team with high expectations from the athletic department. Keeping in mind the next worse team in the conference was #1 in the country earlier in the year and we are way behind that is a tall order.

06/11/2017 - 4:37pm Endowment

Only Michigan doesn't even need the endowment to pay for athletics because our football program can pay for everything else.

06/11/2017 - 4:36pm Amplo

Not saying he wasn't offered but you never know if the coach isn't just putting it out there to get a raise. Hoping they don't end up with Starsia or Cottle. I can't think of two bigger names than amplo without taking an ACC, Big10 or Denver coach. And if the rumors are true I don't think we can afford any of those.

Would have liked byrne, amplo, nadelin or Shea

06/05/2017 - 4:20pm Agreed

Doing the right thing in that situation couldn't have been the easiest thing to do, knowing what it would do to your program/team.  But good to know there are some good kids over there.
