Alternates vs Florida?

I've been pushing for this for years for Michigan - Ohio State.
It would be a true authentic throwback.
Newspaper accounts of the dedication game of Michigan Stadium in 1927 talk about the blue-clad Wolverines and the Scarlett-clad Buckeys.
You can see it in the 1950 "Snow Bowl" pics too:
We did color vs. color all the way up until the late '50s or so, until black and white TV forced color vs. white to tell the teams apart.

Yup. Alternate uniforms are a distraction.
Surprise alternate uniforms are a major distraction. The players said they were more focused on their uniforms than the damn game in 2011 in the bumble bee game.

Thing with alternates is if you are going to trot out a creative and/or bold alternate uniform, you'd better fucking win the game. If you wear something crazy and lose you really look like assholes. I don't think this will/would be a problem for us against Florida, but still.

They were more focused on those bumble bee alternates because they knew they looked like fools in those hideous things.

Had we lost UTL I, I have a feeling that we would not look back so fondly on those unis.

All maize will be tough to pull off ("maybe" if they pair it with blue pants). As long as they come out in an old school designed concept though, I am fine with it for a game. If they touch the helmets (outside of the number on it) and design some modern crap, I will be disapponted. Also, I dont think its a good idea for alternative uniforms on opening day. Albeit minor, it could be a distraction of sorts.

As a "modern alternate jersey" it doesn't look that bad. I would like to see a blue version with maize shoulder wings.

If its all maize and Florida wears their normal home uniforms, the game will be unbearbale to watch.
Just go with maize pants, white tops, and toss in the gray face masks. Done

They've already said there will be alternates this season so there's even less point in raging against them than usual. They're going to happen. Accept it and move on. Being angry about it's just a waste of time at this point.

Pretty sure the hysteria is more about a potentially flamboyant all-maize look than any old alternate uniform. I would guess tasteful alternates (like the Sugar Bowl unis) have widespread approval.

I may be in the minority, but I enjoy the alt-unis. Save for the MSU bumble bee disaster, I've liked most of the alt-unis we've worn. I think it's a cool thing to do maybe once or twice a year, and I am excited to see what Nike produces for us.

It wasn't a joke. He is referring to a mesh jersey that is cut just above the waist. Southern teams used to wear them in the 80's and they were pretty badass. I would love to see that as an alternate for a September game while the weather is still warm.
