GOT season 7 episode 5! East watch

Submitted by jdon on

Whats up?

After last weeks episode I am expecting the action to continue right from the begining to end.

I realized we only have three episodes left this year, so does that mean next week is the 'surprise' week?  Personally I expect non stop action...

I'm still hoping Jamie ends up on the throne!

&

I'm praying Tormund survives!

don't necessarily buy that Jon being related to Danaerys is going to play out how most do. Danaerys' claim to the Throne is not based purely on her heritage, but also her narcissism. If you take Jon out of the equation, Viscerys was the rightful heir, and she has no issue with his head being melted off. The only reason that she hasn't melted off everybody's head in Westeros already is because of Tyrion's counsel. That is why Davos wanted to conceal Gendry's identity, to avoid any head melting. I don't understand why everybody thinks that she is just going to be like "oh, cool, let's hold hands and unite." That does not appear to be how she rolls, at all. Jon is a threat to Dany, or would likely be seen as one. This is particularly why Baelish being the only (non three eyed Raven) who apparently possesses this information is a bad thing.

She left Daario behind because she knew that a marriage could strengthen her position. Who brings more to the table than the King in the North? She'd rather marry her way to half the territory than fight for it. Dothraki don't do well in the cold. They are not dressed for it.

D: Oh, wow, my dragon likes you.

J: Yeah, weird huh?

The End

Jon doesn't know his heritage.  Remember that Tyrion approached and released the dragons in season 6 without getting torched so it's not like they just burn/eat everyone in their paths.  She was obviously intrigued by how well Drogon took to Jon, but no way she would consider it's because he's a Targaryean.

This is my belief as well. I buy the Joanna Lanister/Mad King theory for Tyrion. It explains the obsession of Tywin Lannister with the Targaryens beyond the Mad King being crazy and his absolute hatred for Tyrion. There are three dragons for three the Targaryens, Danny, Jon, and Tyrion (him taking Aegon's place from the book). However, I don't think we end the season with all three dragons.

I thought the whole "Bronn and Jamie wash up 1/2 a mile from the scene of defeat" bit was a bit hard to swallow.  Emilia Clarke was outstanding in this episode, though.  She said a lot without saying a word, in multiple scenes, and that's hard to do.

The Arya versus Littlefinger duel took a turn I did not suspect.  Littlefinger is still the boss.

The fact that Jon is now reenacting the quest of the Last Hero speaks poorly for the odds his companions survive.  The Hound will make it, and Gendry, but I suspect they and Jon will be it.  At least Beric Dondarrion will get a hero's death, rather than the mean death he suffers in the books.

Wait wait wait... Rhaegar and Lyanna were actually married foreal foreal?

And they just gloss over it like it's no big deal?

THAT'S A HUGE PLOT LINE HELLO!

It doesn't mean anything to Sam in the moment, but he was listening/will remember since he repeats the number of steps Gilly was talking about. I'd imagine when Sam gets back to Winterfell/the wall Bran or someone will bring it up and Sam will confirm it-- since he gave that book to little Sam before they left the Citadel.

I'm curious how many show watchers completely missed that huge line of dialogue

We know that as the audience, but few people in Westeros know exactly what Brandon is and can do. He even said to Sansa "it's difficult to explain." Of course it is. How can people possibly understand or even believe what he can do? He'd have the same trouble doing so, just like Jon has trouble getting people to believe that the white walkers are real.

I guess the scroll is proof of marriage, though not sure how they will "prove" Jon is their kid.

To your point, Bran may know everything, but proving it is another.  Unless of course one of the nurses present at the birth steps forward.

I think Bran can convince any one individual that he's telling the truth.  All it took was a "Chaos is a ladder" and littlefinger knew, and a "She's on her list" for Aria to know.

Will be interesting to see what Danny thinks if this comes to light.  She has no claim for the throne as Jon's is stronger.  Maybe she ends up back in Essos banging Daairo Naharis as Jorah is forced to watch.

it was the High Septon that performed the service and he apparenlty recorded. And that documentation made it to the Citadel without ever being noticed (yes, it was buried in mundane details, so it's plausible, I guess), or if it was, it was kept a secret by the maesters.

since all dwarves are bastards in the father's eyes.  But agree with the above post the being a bastard is more of a state of mind for him than a technicality.  Catelyn treated him like a bastard, he was always treated differently than his "siblings", he's a bastard at heart.  When he finds out Ned wasn't his real father but lied about it, he might even start to have some daddy issues.
