OT - Summer is Here, Got Anything Special Planned?
Mates,
It is that time of year when most schools get out and folks will travel. This week it will actually be at or above normal temperatures up north for the first time in months, with great looking weather though some very cold lakes. Its that time of year when people go on vacation or go visit grandma, go see Washington D.C, go up north, or if you're Putin, maybe invade a country to two.
So the question is this: What are your summer plans this year, looking forward to some trips or visits, taking the family somewhere or maybe schleping to various courts/dance studios/fields for your kids events?
Summer is here, enjoy.

...and shoes - always wear proper footwear
isn't that the reason he drew the thunderstorm?
...has never lived in Alberta. What is depicted is just a beautiful spring day.
That guy was crazy.
sir.
and how on earth did this draw a neg? shame on whomever did that.
Getting married same day as you. Congrats man.
Way to keep the wedding away from football season. Congrats.
I got engaged last year during the bye (wife) week. I told her she would have make the date before football season, or wait until the next summer. She picks August 26th, the week before the season starts. I made sure she was okay with me watching the Florida game on the honeymoon before giving my approval.
Fall weddings should be illegal.
I'm getting married mid-July. Then it's off to St. Lucia for the honeymoon.
Heading back to Michigan (Torch Lake) for a weekend of bachelor party golf and hijinks on the lake.
I'm on the same train. Getting married this Saturday. Will have three step kids as well as two of my own.
Congratulation.
Just chilling on the lake and taking it easy.
Spending my weekends at baseball fields in Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio through the end of July. Yippee!!!
My son is 11 and on a travel team. We have the GA state tournament this weekend then we head down to FL for one of many "World Series". That will be a week in Panama City Beach at a condo on the ocean and games scattered throughout the week.
Panama City Beach is called "The Red Neck Riviera" for reference.
Wife and daughter are heading to Europe for two weeks with the wife's sister and kids. I have two weeks of free time in July!!
rent my condo in PCB, we're undewater (financially) on it at the moment.
That is if you don't mind staying in a rundown unit with severly faded 80's decor.
Tidewater Beach
very central to PCB.
If you've never been to PCB before let me know if you need any activity ideas.
Frank Brown Park is a very nice facility for games.
a few years ago. Almost t-boned a drunk Alabama driver. He's sitting at the top of a hill in his pick-up truck and a trailer waiting to cross the two lane divided highway. We are going about 60 mph in the left lane and there are people behind us in the right lane. Seamed like forever for us to get near the intersection when he starts to pull out (and then stop!). I have to bail into the ditch between the divided highway to avoid the wreck. The other cars all hit their brakes and barely made it around him. He then pulls through the intersection and stops to see if we are OK. Drunk and shirtless, probably with a shotgun if the truck if things didn't go his way. Luckily, all we had was a little plastic undercarriage damage.
The rest of the trip was restfull. Spent a day walking around Seaside, which was nice.
Those divided highways (98) with the amorphous turn/turnaroiund/pull out gaps in them are an absolute deathtrap!
It's the one thing I hate about that area of the Gulf Coast.
I'm (when down there) at the west end of PCB near Phillips Inlet, not too far from Seaside and the new trendy hotness of Rosemary Beach.
I've been down at every time of the year over the last 20 yrs, and the two things I know are:
1. If you go for Spring Break, avoid the eastern 10 miles of PCB like the plague.
2. Beware the Bubbas of Summer.
Best time to visit there there are the shoulder months of May & October.
Headed to Pigeon Forge, TN next week for my youngest son's 12U tournament at the Ripken Experience. Rented a cabin with 9 of the other families. Sounded like a good idea at the time. We'll see if we survive.
and chill'n.
Never visited it, despite many years living in the U.P. An Isle Royale visit would make this summer extra special.
Also, reading lots of books while swinging in the hammock overlooking the lake. Naps may occur.
would be a fun adventure.
what lake are you looking at (and napping by), michigamme?
Lake Michigamme is a favorite from my youth, but I will probably spend the most lake time at a N. Wisconsin lake this summer. And at a family cabin at an undisclosed lake in the western U.P. (I don't want the tourists to follow me. Naked Bootlegger needs his privacy).
your bootlegging wonderfulness? watch out for the mosquitos and black flies.
Slaker!
Went to Iceland last year. Awesome trip. But be prepared that your "nights" will be only a few hours. Bring a sleep mask and Tylenol PM.
Yeah but football comes first so it's all good.
hauling the kids to sports pretty much every morning & evening, lots of yard work, hopefully some fishing.
Going to Alaska on the Big Ten Alumni Cruise in a couple weeks. Michigan's dignatary is Dhani Jones. I met him once at a Mott's event and he was a great guy to talk to. My wife, being a Buckeye is excited to meet Archie Griffin (I have to admit that I am too).
