[LOCKED] Infamous Joe Mixon tape finally released
The infamous tape of Joe Mixon punching a woman in 2014 has finally been released to the public.
Oklahoma's president, AD, and Stoops all saw this tape and felt a 1-year suspension was fine.
MOD EDIT - Locking and leaving. The comments, well, I'll put it this way: we're doing this for the board's sanity. - LSA

It is pretty fucking disgusting!!!
December 16th, 2016 at 7:17 PM ^
That was pretty bad. You just can't do that. It's the "a year might not be enough but if you give the guy a 2nd chance, he may pay it off" scenario. Or it's the "hey this is college football and there is just too much money at stake to dismiss him from the school" scenario.
December 16th, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
Before I get any replies, I don't really feel sorry for him in any way, I was just pointing something out.

is that while you don't know what was said, she was the aggressor
he still has to walk away instead of hitting her back
1 year wasn't horribly unreasonable

Mixon's lawyer felt there was enough evidence on that tape to encourage Mixon to plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and take one year of probation instead of trying to fight it.
So, I'm guessing that in Oklahoma even though he was pushed, what he did is considered assault. I don't think she was never charged. Although she is suing Mixon now, which is why his lawyers released the tape.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:13 PM ^
However neither side wanted the video released, nor did any of their lawyers try to release it. The media however were the ones who were fighting big time to get this released.

On its own...maybe 1 year isn't outlandish. But, the whole thing is just a really bad look for Oklahoma when you couple it with them taking in Dorial Green-Beckham after he was dismissed from Mizzou for pushing a woman down a flight of stairs, and Dede Westbrook's domestic violence arrests they "missed" when doing a background check.
Once is forgiveable, twice is iffy, three is a pattern of "hey, we don't give a shit if you beat the hell out of women as long as you can play some good ball."

She shouldnt have put hands on him and he's a POS for dropping her. This is exactly why I tell my 17 year old daughter to never lay hands on a man. We live in a world where some men don't have boundries and it only takes one time to find that out. That being said, if that was my daughter, I'd find a way to reach out and touch him.

The worst of it to me is that after she finally gets up, you can see her face is mangled. Mixon is lucky he didn't kill her or cause brain damage.
December 16th, 2016 at 6:49 PM ^
Did Mixon overreact? Yes. Did the chick deserve it after slapping and shoving him? Yes.
Get over it people. It's not like he sucker punched her out of nowhere ala Csonte York
Granted in that situation a shove is more than enough to keep her off you.
December 16th, 2016 at 6:52 PM ^
Whoa, wait. You're saying she deserved to get her face caved in? Because that's what he did. She engaged in some provocative behavior. There's some gray space here about whether he was provoked.
I don't think anyone can say that the level of his response was deserved. Even if one were to argue that in the heat of the moment he could be justified in responding (I don't think this, but I suppose one could argue it), that's a long way from saying that a full-force punch to the face is a just consequence, which is what you appear to be arguing.
Perhaps you're not arguing that, but then it might be helpful to reword what you wrote.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:01 PM ^
I said shoving would've been more appropriate in that situation but given the scenario, time of night etc... I'm not surprised what happened.
Beating up on or slapping people does not excuse you from getting your shit wrecked man or woman. Wish more people got the hint.

So if she happened to catch her head on the corner of that table after she was punched, or her head slammed on the tile floor and either of those things killed or caused brain damage, would it still be cool "because the chick deserved it"?
December 16th, 2016 at 7:37 PM ^
She should've thought about that before assaulting Mixon first.
Again, shoving was more appropriate, but in that situation, don't expect cooler heads to prevail.

You can't possibly be serious. Disgusting.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:34 PM ^
Should have gone with your last sentence and left it at that. He want's to slap her or restrain her or push her after being attacked, that's one thing. But she better be coming at you with a knife or hammer if you are going to lay her out.
December 16th, 2016 at 6:48 PM ^
It is terrible, her jaw was broken and she had to have it wired shut to heal.

December 16th, 2016 at 6:35 PM ^
Not sure why anyone would want to see this.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:11 PM ^
The story has been in the news for the last two years, and the tape has always been referenced but never released. So if you want to know more about the story and form your own opinions on Mixon then watch it. If not, keep on keeping on. Plenty of bad shit in the world, and its totally fine if you don't want to introduce more of it into your life on an otherwise pleasant Friday night.

But it's still his fault and not hers because she's a woman and he's a man.

What did he say? I haven't seen a story that describes the actual event, just stuff saying that the video is released.

I came across the suggestion in a few different articles but as the poster below mentions perhaps it went both ways. Who knows, too bad either way.

Court documents actually state that she possibilly said something racist towards him.

Assuming the last sentence is sarcasm, it is still his fault.
Don't get me wrong. She seemed to be acting like an asshole too. Pushing him and the clumsy slap are way out of line, and if it had stopped there he likely could have made a criminal claim for assault. And,once the police stopped laughing and told him to get real, the incident would have faded to obilivion.
The problem though, is he cold-cocked her. He is obviously stronger than her, bigger than her, and more experienced at fighting than her. Hers was a stupid emotional gesture, and his was a potentially life-threatening response. Way out of proportion, and thus indefensible.
Again, she was out of line. Didn't deserve to be knocked out, though.

December 16th, 2016 at 6:56 PM ^
Its his fault because its assault. Even if you got pushed, you still don't have the right to cold-cock someone in the face and knock them out. Do that almost anywhere, and man or woman you're getting arrested for assault.
That's why his lawyer had him accept a plea deal of one-year of probation. He knew there was enough evidence on that tape to get him convicted -- even though he was pushed.
December 16th, 2016 at 6:57 PM ^
He was walking away. She started a fight and lost. It's her fault she got punched. Why is he held to a higher standard? Because he's better at punching? I'm a terrible shot with a gun, can I start shooting at people and then sue them when they fire back and hit me because they're better at it? Yeah it'd be nice if he was the far better person and just kept walking, but it's still her own damn fault.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:18 PM ^
He didn't HAVE to retaliate and he didn't have to do so with such excessive, potentially lethal force.
This isn't Ender's Game; you don't get to kill someone and say "it wasn't about winning this fight but all future fights as well." It's not about him winning.
He could have handled it in a way that led to her getting cuffed and we'd all agree she's a jackass for laying her hands on someone and it could have gone no further than that. Instead he hit someone as hard as he could, fighting a cigarette burn with a flamethrower.

Her gender is not relevant. What is relevant is the enormous disparity in size, strength, and ability to inflict physical damage. If that woman were Ronda Rousey, I don't think we'd see the same outrage. If she were a 12-year-old boy, I think we would.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:27 PM ^
His sin was the level of force used when he could have extricated himself from the situation by walking away or pushing her away and not blasting her with a punch. She definitely exhibited aggressive behavior and was not blameles, but didn't deserve the level of force she was met with when there were alternatives.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:34 PM ^
Yes, she was the aggressor, but does that mean she needed to have her face broken by a man? She was no danger to him whatsoever. Doesn't matter if she punched his mouth as hard as she could, it was only going to be glancing blow to football player that works out daily. He had no right, or reason, to hit her like that. And then to just saunter away, like nothing happened and he wouldn't get in any trouble for it, at all. Fuck him.
December 16th, 2016 at 7:36 PM ^
So a woman pushes a world class athlete and it's "self-defense" for the 230 pound hulk of a man to annihilate her face? How much damage was she going to do by pushing him? How difficult would it have been for him to get away? She could have died. Come on.
