Interactions with Buckeyes this week

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on
Curious to hear what the interactions have been with OSU fans this week. My companies rep from Toledo was talking an incredible amount of smack before the game to me, was dead silent during the game, and then proceeded to rub it in immediately after. When I pointed out the officiating I was met with crybaby taunts and claims that OSU had just as many bad calls go against them. I was furious. I'm not sure why I expected any different but I thought even a Buckeye fan would admit they stole that one. Curious to hear from others on this.

My doctor was running by as I was trying to walk off my angaar on Sunday and I yelled to him that we were robbed. He said Michigan looked like the better team but the spot was good. I gave him the Marcus Hall double bird and kept walking.

Oh, I have been able to be my normal painfully polite self because I've successfully avoided discussing The Game with the Buckeyes in the office thus far this week. Indeed, the entire discussion with one of them was them turning a corner as I was coming down one of the aisles on Monday. It's been kind of nice to be respected enough (also nominally in charge) and not have to worry about......yet.

They'll give me the normal week of mourning and razz me this coming Monday. That's how it works here.

One friend of mine is an old school buckeye, alum, & actually dotted the "i" his senior year.  he called & I said "hello"... he laughed for about 10 seconds & said "who the hell did you all piss off at conference HQ?  Man, they sent the Cleaners to make sure you didn't pull this one out.  Not looking forward to our trip to AA next year... y'all should rename the Big House the Woodshed.  Gonna be brutal."

We chatted for a while Monday night and he said it wasn't that the spot was bad it was that there was a chance for tOSU to get to that point.  His observation was that the only reason Gary didn't break some school or conference record for sacks was because he was held on every play.  Also made some comment about his jersey HAD to be a size bigger after getting stretched out by Prince all afternoon.

The other... a co-worker asshat (I work in Indiana) who grew up near Jackson but became a bucknut because he hates UM started in on me Monday morning 1st thing and I smiled & walked on.  As he followed me, saying something about being a good sport, I calmly said "sometime the better team doesn't win.  now YOU be a good sport and go write the conference a thank-you note for giving you the W"

He didn't really have much to say after that until today, when he tried to show me the pic with the warped hashmarks.  I said "I don't have a problem with the spot.  Maybe he made it.  It was close.  But you can't show me a single picture of any uncalled penalty against UofM.  Not one.  I can go online and find at least 4 of EGREGIOUS no-calls against the Wolverines and those are the ones I've SEEN so far"  (I completely forgot about the first one that made me lose my mind... on the Barrett run earlier in the game)

So I have this ONE friend who gets it... came up in the mutual respect of Bo/Woody era... actually roots for UM about 360 days a year & wants us to be #1 in November so they can destroy us when we're undefeated.  THAT type.

But they're mostly dicks.  They're like MSU fans but with history... a foundation.  I expect them to be dicks... to not understand or acknowledge science, to be apathetic of the rules... and to be boisterous about their ignorance and how good their cousin kisses.

I come from a long line of Michign Men... I'll never forget what one of my dad's friend's told me when I was a kid one afternoon in Ann Arbor (90s)

"We always RESPECT OSU because they have a true HISTORY & true TRADITION.  We don't respect MSU because they have No tradition or History'  Duff was a cheater, etc.

They have been pretty quiet toward me. One buckeye fanboy I know even admitted to me, "I don't blame Harbaugh for being pissed." He knows. They all know. This was a dirty win. Most but the hardcore mouth breathers deep down know this didn't feel that good. He did admit that our D is "fucking nasty" and he can't wait to never see Taco again.

Immediately after the game I had two OSU friends text me equal parts sincere pity and sheepish respect. Today I saw another OSU fan for the first time. It was very awkward. Sort of a "what a game" interaction. We don't know each other that well. I think all of them to a man probably know we are the better team so they didn't really find the need to talk trash or to really even get into details about the game.

My cousin is an OSU alum, but otherwise good guy and respects the rivalry. We deliberately avoided back-and-forth during the game, but I texted him the next day asking what his real-time reaction was to the 4th down play. He replied "I was terrified" to which I said "because you knew you lost". He didn't concede, but rather shifted to praising us and saying we should be in the CFP and asking if Speight would be back because he's the real deal, etc.

I'll see him around New Year's and am expecting he'll be less complimentary by then.

Personally to me. I grew up in PA so I knew when they won I would hear about it but its all over socal media this week from them. Franklin made the title game before Harbaugh and "we would beat you guys if we played now" jabs.

I'm telling Buckeye fans that they absolutely should enjoy this win. And if acting like a jackass is part of it for them, go for it. Then I'm reminding them that in Jim Harbaugh's second year, in Columbus it took a goal line fumble and pick six from our injured 3 star QB and A LOT of help from the refs to barely pull out a 2 OT "win". Then I'm asking them if they think it's going to get easier or harder for them to win in the future.

All  the OSU fans I know were very disappointed that the game wasnt determined fairly.

They were much more upset about the officiating then any Michigan fan I know.

The only OSU fans I know are Facebook friends, and not one brought up the game. That's pretty unusual, especially for one guy who manages to insert some anti-Michigan comment even on posts where there's no mention of Michigan or sports (like my kids' birthdays).

All good. Everyone said they thought OSU was going to lose and excited to see the game matter again...no cheap shots. I didn't bring the refs up, just took it like a man

Are still my friends. Left me alone. No post-game smack. I think they know how much this meant to us and for whatever reason this time decided to be quiet.

I was really looking forward to how quiet all of my ohio friends were going to be. You know, the kind of quiet that lasts a whole day or two before they can't help but talk about how they were screwed out of the game, or to enjoy the 1 win every several years. Fucking buttguys. I was looking forward to the 1st win at the toilet bowl in 16 years. The seniors going out the right way. Or....I get to listen to them spout shit for another year.

I also wanted more than anything, more than the gloating and bragging rights, for the seniors to leave the field with a win over ohio.  I looked forward to the ones who are quick to spew crap to be silenced, waiting for me to do the same but not stoop to their level.

Outside of the neanderthal fan which is often inbred in ohio, my experiences have been quite good.  There are only about three buckeye fans that check their heart at the door for the sake of a legitimate discussion.  Each and every one of them admit the better team didn't win, that they're not certain about the spot (but we both agree that the video footage provided during the game wasn't enough to overturn it.  They are also suprised that a referee that wasn't allowed to ref the 2006 game was allowed to ref this game.  They even laughed at the obsurdity of it.  We both agreed that if a player makes mistakes (INT's, missed FGs) that is part of the game, missed calls and questionable spots should NOT be the deciding factors.  They did notice how our defence is great, but tired in the OT.

Now, the other inbreds that I know? Their comments are similar to "You suck because you smell. 11 out of 12.  baaaahhhhh.. screw the series and history, last decade baby!"  I hate those fans as do many, MANY of the other SEC fans I know.

Friends without a dog in the hunt revelled in The Game at how good it was.  They commented about what a hard, smash-mouth football game it was and how they truly enjoyed it.

My boss is a Buckeye. Great guy. Still, he came in Monday morning wearing an OSU jacket, under which he was in full Tressel mode - gray shirt and scarlet sweater vest. I just kept my mouth shut.

Told him to find me some more YouTube clips and screen grabs and he just kept babbling something about UM gaining just 65 yards after leading 17-7. I couldn't remember if Burger King or McDonalds cut deeper, so I winged it with "Better pray we get screwed over by selection commitee, Taco Boy." (MGoPoints Max Score!) Those guys are insufferable.

Walking around through Boston Logan Intl Airport, several Osu'rs actually walked up to me and said good game dude, you guys deserve to be there. I said terrible spot... TERRIBLE... all but one shrugged and said idk man... but admitted that Michigan beat them the entire game. The one guy even said go blue and sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

The Michigan fans, however started a go blue chant on the moving walkway. It was rather amusing.

One guy was with his wife on the plane who was an OSU fan said The spot was horrible.. the missed holding call on the samuels scramble was horrible... the missed PI's were horrible... the missed offsides calls were horrible.. lol she agreed.

I made a bet with one of the clients last week. He's going to be insufferable this week.

Go Blue!

I am in Toledo, so I am surrounded by them(jealous by those of you that say you don't know any). Surprisingly most have been quiet. Aside from them vehemently denying the 4th down stop. To be honest, a few actually agreed with me that the Big10 overall has an officiating problem, just short of saying they were the benefactors of it. Used to be about a 50/50 fan ratio, however, in the recent years band wagoners slid over to the dark side. Now it feel like 65 (osu) 35 (UM)

Fans I've encountered say the spot was terrible, the officiating was one sided and they hope they never have to play us again. They all said we controlled the whole game...except for the doofus who pointed out we only held the ball for 5 minutes and gained 16 yards in regulation after securing a 10 point lead.

I work for a company that employs incredibly smart people.  None of them are Buckeyes.  Hmm... But there are two PSU alums at my company.  I haven't spoken to either of them yet about the CFP situation.  I've been wanting to but I will wait until after this weekend's activities.

Beyond that, I do not know any OSU fans or alums.  And I am thankful.

Same! I live in the heart of Buckeye country (Lima). In fact, I live next door to Xavier Simpson's grandfather. I grew up in Michigan, so I was used to the MSU rivalry and their fandom. Buckeye fans are worse....... They have probably been more insufferable over this one than any of the rest. I think it is hard for them to grasp that the tide is about to turn in our favor. The most spewed line is that Harbaugh is whiner and his dad didn't raise him right, and he did get the fisrt down, no pass interference on Hill, etc......

I haven't dealt with OSU fans luckily. None at my job. I've actually dealt with a few MSU fans more than anything. The MSU fans have been rubbing the Iowa and OSU losses in my faces. Michigan State and those fans have such an inferiority complex it's embarrassing. They can take glee in the fact Michigan lost twice instead of worrying about 3-9. One got in a huge argument with me and actually said with a straight face PSU is a much better team. Get the fuck outta here. That's the stupidest "hot take" I've ever heard. Michigan is CLEARLY a superior team to Pedophile U.

Just ran into a total jackass Buckeye. Reassured my feelings about hating their subhuman guts. Until we beat them, they have the power. This is the thing that makes me crazy.
