I'll remember that game forever ... I'll also remember the Fandom Badge III game vs Northwestern the same year for forever too.

during the RR years
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:16 AM ^
Those years don't count - they have been erased from my memory.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:19 AM ^
I am planning on the same kind of thing over the next 4 years. They will simply be blank...
November 22nd, 2016 at 12:30 PM ^
Because you're a ND and Sparty fan, Faux?
November 22nd, 2016 at 1:29 PM ^
Sure, something like that... ;-)
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:25 AM ^
Becuase there aren't many games that we were "favored" in those years.....
Well, I take that back, we were favored against Tole.......doh! Nevermind

The fact that it's in Columbus would make it an upset in my mind

Although in fairness I'm always nervous for this game, with the exception of the RR years.
I grew up during the Cooper years so I've been scarred.
Your offense is iffy, even with Speight. And our defense is pretty good.
But it is your defense that worries me. It's pretty darn good. I worry about our OC's tendency to turtle and just call runs for Barrett when it gets tough. If that happens we are done for. Barrett will need to get yards, don't get me wrong. But, if that is all we are doing. YIKES.
I really have no idea how this one goes down, but I'm pretty sure if you ask other Buckeye fans who aren't internet posturing you'd get a similar response.
Also, a team of 43, or whatever the number is, seniors vs one of the youngest teams out there (who also has more new starters than any other FBS program) should do better. I don't think that is an excuse.
November 22nd, 2016 at 1:08 PM ^
if I remember correctly: our offense with Speight had scored more points in a single season than any of the past 111 years.
December 7th, 2016 at 12:35 PM ^
all those seasons of 6 games or 8 games teams used to play. Throw out any team that played less than 11 games for this purpose. Your pool of comparison becomes quite smaller. I don't think this is saying much other than offense hasn't been a historical UM powerhouse.

I think this would be an upset. We are 7.5 point dogs and nobody on ESPN is even suggesting that Michigan may win. Basically we have been written off.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:12 AM ^
was amazing. Never felt better as a Michigan fan.
Hindsight says ND wasn't as good as we thought.
Winning Saturday will top it all off.

They were ranked 18th. We were unranked.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:13 AM ^
Northwestern probably.. Not a huge upset as a home #18 vs #13, but signified that we were relevant again.
It's nice to have very limited opportunities for upsets these days :)
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:20 AM ^
I believe we were a 10-12 pt favorite for that game.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:24 AM ^
We were. But they were higher ranked going into the game as well. Depends on what is considered an upset I guess.

3 downvotes for just politely giving the correct answer as to what determines an upset?
November 22nd, 2016 at 12:17 PM ^
Why would anyone let the know-nothing rankers determine what is an upset and what's not?
November 22nd, 2016 at 12:18 PM ^
Who cares about subjective polls early in the season. A double-digit spread pretty clearly signifies who the favorite is.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:22 AM ^
If we're going by technical rankings, this is the answer. They were the higher ranked team going into the game. If we're going by beating a better team than us, we have to go a ways back I think.

Florida last year?
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:18 AM ^
I think most people predicted we'd win that game since we had a great defense and a slightly more balanced offense. Only difference was that people were thinking it'd be a 13-7 kind of game.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:18 AM ^
I actually just watched the highlights this morning (who needs hype videos when you have that?)... we were ranked #14. They were #19. Sort of still felt like an upset though given the whole #SECbias thing.

We definitely were not favorites going into the 2011 Notre Dame game.
Edit: Per the preview, ND was 3 point favorites going in - http://mgoblog.com/content/preview-notre-dame-2011

Depends on what side of the fence you're asking about. If you're talking about when we've been upset, I think we've got a pretty big slew of those.
As far as when we've upset another team, it's been a while. The last few I can think of are:
'08 Wisconsin
'09 ND
'05 PSU
'06 ND
In other words, it's been a good long while. We've tended to beat the teams we should beat, lose to the teams we should lose to, or occasionally lose to the teams we should beat. Been a LONNNNNG time since we've upset a truly good team. Have a great opportunity to do so this weekend.

I'm not sure who Vegas favored, but Nebraska was ranked slightly higher than Michigan going into that game.
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:42 AM ^
Michigan favored by 3.5:
November 22nd, 2016 at 11:27 AM ^
It hasn't really been the case the past 10 years, but when you are constantly ranked high, most loses will be viewed as an upset.

Capital One Bowl vs Urban Meyer/Tim Tebow's Florida?
November 22nd, 2016 at 3:06 PM ^
and an upset perhaps larger than the others on your list there (although I was at the '08 wisconsin game, and that was pretty damn fun), as I believe PSU was #2 or 3 at the time, and undefeated...
just thinking about '06 ND brings a smile to my face... that game was just plain fun fun fun

I'm not healthy. I keep checking MGoBlog. My mind only directs towards UM vs. OSU. I'm anxious. I want us to win so much it is making me ill. I can't face a loss.
It's only Tuesday.
