PFF 2017 Mock 1st Rd - (2 Wolverines)
PFF has their 2017 Mock draft up: Notable/B1G Players listed:
1. Jonathan Allen DE
8. Malik McDowell DE
14. Jourdan Lewis - Saints 2nd corner off the board behind Tabor of Florida
15. Desmond King
17 Jabrill Peppers (mainly to go to a team with a single high safety so he can play in the box like Tennesee)
28. Ryan Ramczyk - Wisconsin
32 - Dawuane Smoot - Illinois
No Ohio State players, maybe not a suprise after last season.
Thought Peppers would be higher.
Thought Lewis would be lower.
Only 2 QB (Watson, Rudolph)
12 - SEC,
6 - B1G,
3 - Big 12,
4 - ACC, + 1 ND,
4 - PAC 12
1 - WMU

would you go OL all day every day, or try to strengthen the defense first?
Side-note: I think De'veon Smith (in later rounds) would be solid for a team like the Colts or Packers, who need anyone who can stand in the way of a rusher...or a strong breeze.

Could definitely see him going 6-7th rd or at minimum a priority UDFA, but I think he'll get selected. Just curious what his 40 time will be. CBS's fake-40 projection is 4.59. I don't think there is an iceberg's chance in hell he runs sub-4.6.

Unless the Colts were to somehow make the playoffs, I don't see them taking an offensive lineman in round 1 given the lack of OL talent for the 2017 draft class. A defensive playmaker (any position(!)) is exactly what the Colts need and if they can pair Jabrill Peppers with TJ Green (solid rookie FS) than this Mofo writing this comment won't have the shivers every time the Colts play a team with a dynamic passing attack/mobile QB. With the exception of the 2006 season playoffs, the Colts have never been able to consistently stop the run. I've given up on their run stopping capabilities for life...
It wouldn't hurt to see the Colts grab IU's Feeney in the 2nd/3rd round though... I don't even like De'veon Smith running the ball over Isaac so I will take a HARD PASS on him playing for the Colts.
tl;dr - peepers > all

and none are worth taking at 1st round.

The Colts really just need one more tackle and some competition at guard. Their right tackles have been absolutely awful, and Costanzo has had a couple of rough games on the left side. Mix in the injuries from Mewhort and Goode (and the fact that Ryan Kelly is a rookie) and you get this year's performance.
Let's say the Colts sign Andrew Whitworth to be a left tackle. A Whitworth-Mewhort-Kelly-Good/Haeg-Costanzo line isn't just improved, that's actually pretty good. Toss in some interior line depth and antoher running back, and Colts have an offense they can win with.
No, the Colts need to go after Linebackers. They have no pass rush, and their Inside linebackers besides D'Qwell Jackson have been amongst the worst I have ever seen at that position (that's not an exaggeration, by the way). They need at least two ILBs and three OLBs this offseason, minimum.

I read this and thought you meant 2 Wolverines overall

OP might want to edit the title to indicate this only refers to the first round and not the entire draft.

I think the NFL Draft Combine will be a major boost to Peppers' stock. The numbers he produces will make NFL scouts go nuts.
November 18th, 2016 at 11:11 AM ^
NFL scouts really don't take too much stock in NFL combine workouts. They only care about medicals and interviews more than the drills.
Jabrill having a great combine workout wont' move the needle because they expect him to have a great workout.

And quite likely top 5. Anyone missing this is incorrect.

Since when is Jonathan Allen in the B1G?

They have the Browns taking Mason Rudolph at 21 as well.

as well. Fixed

If he drops that far there is a tiny chance he comes back

Agreed, definitely should return.

Probably the worst Mock Draft out there. I have seen 3-4 others and this dudes is nothing like the others. Outside the top two this guy seems like he threw darts at a board of names.

I cringe at the thought of us taking a QB in the 21st selection of the draft. Our talent evaluation in the 22 slot has been somewhat less than excellent lately if you remember.
First there was Brady.....
Then Brandon....
And of course....Billy

Wait, what are you talking about?! THESE THINGS NEVER HAPPENED.

I love Mock Drafts at this point in the NFL season where all but 2 teams have 7 games left to play and only the #1 spot is all but locked up. So much will happen between now and the Super Bowl in terms of seeding for the draft that make these things a complete waste.

Forbes put out a list of the salary scale projections last year. Drop from 1st overall to 15th was something like $16.2 Million over the life of the contract and about $13 Million less in signing bonuses.

Probably will hurt him in draft stock simply because there's no way in hell he'll play LB in the NFL. But once he hits the combine his numbers will bring him back up to around the top 10.
November 18th, 2016 at 2:41 PM ^
NFL will pretty much have wrap up their evaluations on prospects and combine workouts do not affect their draft stock. Only thing that will affect their stock is their interview, medicals and background check.

I don't think his tackling is spectacular either. Yes, he gets the ball carrier down, but he doesn't consistently wrap up. His coverage against wr's leaves a little to be desired, but in the NFL that's about consistent with most safeties. And he certainly wouldn't be a liability against a rb or tight end in coverage.
November 18th, 2016 at 1:12 PM ^
Pep is coming back if he is graded that low.
November 18th, 2016 at 1:24 PM ^
I'm guessing he's gone if he's a 1st rounder at all.
November 18th, 2016 at 2:14 PM ^
Yea if he's in the first round, I can't see Peppers staying for another year. And, for all the concern about where he'll play in the NFL, I think a team will use him in the same way Arizona uses Deone Buchanan. Some LB, some S. Tasked with covering TEs, but also blitzing and providing support in the run game. His return ability will only add to his value.

I just hope Peppers actually has a big game when we need him too. It's yet to happen and his hype is insane. Can we get a pick 6 or PRTD in 2 weeks just for memories sake? I'm not saying he hasnt been great, but not impactful like other top 10 guys.
November 18th, 2016 at 9:30 PM ^
We needed a spark against Colorado, and he had a punt return TD and some pretty good numbers in that game.

Fuck it, just win.
