PFF 2017 Mock 1st Rd - (2 Wolverines)

Submitted by canzior on

PFF has their 2017 Mock draft up: Notable/B1G Players listed:

1. Jonathan Allen DE

8. Malik McDowell DE

14. Jourdan Lewis - Saints 2nd corner off the board behind Tabor of Florida

15. Desmond King

17 Jabrill Peppers (mainly to go to a team with a single high safety so he can play in the box like Tennesee)

28. Ryan Ramczyk - Wisconsin

32 - Dawuane Smoot - Illinois

No Ohio State players, maybe not a suprise after last season.

Thought Peppers would be higher.

Thought Lewis would be lower.

Only 2 QB (Watson, Rudolph)

12 - SEC,

6 - B1G,

3 - Big 12,

4 - ACC, + 1 ND,

4 - PAC 12

1 - WMU

Could definitely see him going 6-7th rd or at minimum a priority UDFA, but I think he'll get selected. Just curious what his 40 time will be. CBS's fake-40 projection is 4.59. I don't think there is an iceberg's chance in hell he runs sub-4.6.

Unless the Colts were to somehow make the playoffs, I don't see them taking an offensive lineman in round 1 given the lack of OL talent for the 2017 draft class. A defensive playmaker (any position(!)) is exactly what the Colts need and if they can pair Jabrill Peppers with TJ Green (solid rookie FS) than this Mofo writing this comment won't have the shivers every time the Colts play a team with a dynamic passing attack/mobile QB.  With the exception of the 2006 season playoffs, the Colts have never been able to consistently stop the run. I've given up on their run stopping capabilities for life...

It wouldn't hurt to see the Colts grab IU's Feeney in the 2nd/3rd round though... I don't even like De'veon Smith running the ball over Isaac so I will take a HARD PASS on him playing for the Colts.

Andrew Luck is the key to that team. They've invested a ton in him, and that they can't keep him off his back, despite him being relatively mobile and having a quick release, is the number one problem with that team. Defense is also an obvious issue, but they need to get that offensive line figured out before they're paying a broken QB $20+ million.

The Colts really just need one more tackle and some competition at guard. Their right tackles have been absolutely awful, and Costanzo has had a couple of rough games on the left side. Mix in the injuries from Mewhort and Goode (and the fact that Ryan Kelly is a rookie) and you get this year's performance.

Let's say the Colts sign Andrew Whitworth to be a left tackle. A Whitworth-Mewhort-Kelly-Good/Haeg-Costanzo line isn't just improved, that's actually pretty good.  Toss in some interior line depth and antoher running back,  and Colts have an offense they can win with.

No, the Colts need to go after Linebackers. They have no pass rush, and their Inside linebackers besides D'Qwell Jackson have been amongst the worst I have ever seen at that position (that's not an exaggeration, by the way). They need at least two ILBs and three OLBs this offseason, minimum.

Peppers stick if falling, NFL team know he is only 5"8. He needs to come back for one more year so he can grow to 6 ft.

As a Browns fan I'd be disappointed if they didn't draft Myles Garrett. .... Then, since I'm saying things that probably won't happen, they should try to draft Peppers with the Philly pick.

A Def with Garrett and Peppers would be ridiculous quickly.

It won't happen.

I love Mock Drafts at this point in the NFL season where all but 2 teams have 7 games left to play and only the #1 spot is all but locked up. So much will happen between now and the Super Bowl in terms of seeding for the draft that make these things a complete waste.

Dumb question maybe... but, is it better to be middle to late first round pick to get on a potentially better team than getting picked 1st/2nd and being stuck in Jacksonville or Cleveland? Or is the money for late 1st round much worse than late?

Probably will hurt him in draft stock simply because there's no way in hell he'll play LB in the NFL. But once he hits the combine his numbers will bring him back up to around the top 10.

NFL will pretty much have wrap up their evaluations on prospects and combine workouts do not affect their draft stock. Only thing that will affect their stock is their interview, medicals and background check.

Peppers is obviously very talented and versatile, but he doesn't seem to make a huge plays on defense. You would think, given his speed, teams would have more trouble getting to the edge than they have recently. He's also doesn't seem to be great in coverage. He's been most dynamic, by far, as a punt returner. I keep thinking/hoping that a signature game is coming from him, where he does great things in all phases. How about in two weeks?

I don't think his tackling is spectacular either.  Yes, he gets the ball carrier down, but he doesn't consistently wrap up.  His coverage against wr's leaves a little to be desired, but in the NFL that's about consistent with most safeties.  And he certainly wouldn't be a liability against a rb or tight end in coverage.

Yea if he's in the first round, I can't see Peppers staying for another year. And, for all the concern about where he'll play in the NFL, I think a team will use him in the same way Arizona uses Deone Buchanan. Some LB, some S. Tasked with covering TEs, but also blitzing and providing support in the run game. His return ability will only add to his value.

First or second day grade and your incentive is to go, while I would be happy if he stayed with that kind of grade, I would be shocked to see it happen. Only way to justify it is if he's told there's a hole in his game that another year in college will help fix. Otherwise you're much better off developing your skills while getting PAID and then go back to college to finish the degree.

I just hope Peppers actually has a big game when we need him too. It's yet to happen and his hype is insane. Can we get a pick 6 or PRTD in 2 weeks just for memories sake? I'm not saying he hasnt been great, but not impactful like other top 10 guys.
