META: Posters and user-generated features that you want to see again

Submitted by stephenrjking on

Nice to have THE_KNOWLEDGE at the top of the diary section again, even if I've never been that taken with the feature. Reminds me, though: there are some other features and writers that have ghosted or at least seriously reduced their presence here. The user-generated stuff is one of the great features of MGoblog, and I hope to see more of it continue to prosper.

Two things I miss seeing this year: Alum96, who was/is a great poster and whose recruiting posts were essential reading...

And the long lamented BlueSeoul (now SFBayAreaBlue) Game Wraps with Pics.

I will remember them by making a stick football player with punctuation over his head for purposes of nostalgia.

What users/features do you miss?

I'm not going to grumble about free stuff, but I did enjoy when UFRs and UVs would come out right around lunch so I could read em on my lunch break. Seems like they're more like 2 or 3 now

Bean town Blue, B.G.H, Dex (from his room in his mom's basement), the original board coach GS 2000 and his IROC trans am, Magnus serving as BuzzKillington.. Brian coming into the thread on his lunch telling us to start behaving. The handle jack wars that turned everyone against each other and tore us apart. The Horror rendered Haloscan useless, and Brian lost his job. Maybe those guys are still lurking around.. I'm under an assumed identity myself. Hard to believe I have wasted more than a decade here.

Pretty weird feeling to think that some posters might just be dead. You always assume it's a ban, handle change, or someone just getting pissed off at the blog and never coming back. When blog posters die, we basically never know. That's my buzzkill thought of the day.

It's true.  You spend more time with people on here than you do with some of your friends and family.  You get to know them in a sense.

But unlike the real world, you never actually know what becomes of people that stop posting.

So MGoBloggers, if you die, at least have the decency to let us know ahead of time.

I have many fond memories from this board. I know that some former users lurk more, and post less. Some were kicked out, some just left. I miss Brian commenting more in the threads. CRex was always fun. Some of the best stuff came from guys who are now in the business . . . Tom VH, Steve Lorenz, Sullivan, et. al.

Until Brian learns to hate the 1990s retro website look these threads are pointless.  Wish to god he would break down and hire a third party forum service...hell I think many of us would pay for certain perks and probably make it revenue positive for him

What's up with the disappearance of Alum96? Long one of my favorite posters, and always a great source of information, he suddenly stopped posting towards the end of last spring's NCAA Hoops Tournament. At one point a few months ago, one of the many times I've seen posts wondering if his whereabouts, someone posted that Alum 96 was busy during Tax season, implying that the absence was merely temporary. Two other favorite MGoPosters who have been MIA for awhile: "Blazefire" and "Formerly Anonymous". Anyone have any ideas why they've disappeared ?

He was the king around here during the coaching search that landed Harbaugh. I miss his posts about state of the team. They were always spot-on.

Where did he go?!?!???

Obviously I wasn't on this site at the time of many of the users being discussed here but it seems like there was more personality from the users. A lot of the posts are all facts and I love facts and stats to support opinions but I would love to see opinionated posts and more personalities!
