There are worse annoucers in the world. I'm fine with him
November 6th, 2016 at 7:08 PM ^
Who is he paired up with? It makes a difference.
I used to hate when he was paired up with Muss. Muss would egg him on against us and Herbstreit would happily oblige.
The worst was the game at Nebraska when Denard got hurt. Their coverage of us was absolutely mocking in content and tone. F that.

On the scale of annoyance that I usually rate the ESPN broadcasters go, I don't usually rank Herbstreit as high as some others - I can take him even in Michigan games for the most part, but he has been heavy-handed with the downplaying of Michigan so hopefully we can make him see the light on Saturday. There are definitely other people at ESPN who annoy me more.

During the last year of Brady Hoke, Herbie did make that statement on ESPN that Michigan needs to be good for the rivalry to be good and that what we've seen the last several years is NOT Michigan. I appreciated that. But he has become more of a homer after many years of restraining his bias.
It's pretty shocking that's he's not broadcasting a Buckeye game for once.

when Michigan sucks and it's obvious OSU should smack us. His rational side knows that the B1G is better when Michigan is elite.
However, as a former OSU player he will always have bias and now that we are actually good again, the fan side of him his getting concerned. Can't blame him...I would be the same way, trying to look impartial but deep down rooting for my alma mater against its rivals.

I used to really like Herbie, but recently I feel like he is lazy and gives pretty generic statements without much thought. He does the same in game and on game day. Obviously he is better than most of the awful people ESPN has but he has just been slipping in my book.

That's the beauty of it.
He probably doesn't know either.
Just another fantastic moment of UTLI. It really has to be one of the 2 or 3 greatest games ever played at Michigan Stadium.

Yes, he's annoyed me before and been biased, but everyone has that in them. I think overall, he does a good job. Won't matter against Iowa. He'll have to try really hard to not talk us up as we demolish the hawkeyes.

Like Herby. The 'pin their ears back' line he uses 40 times a game annoys me more than his slight OSU homerism. I wouldn't respect the guy if he werent a little homerish.
The Griese/Levy/Mcshay team is great. I'd take them every game. Also, I was thinking ESPN should assign crews to certain teams for the whole year. It'd only make sense to do this for the heavy weights. Let the crew really know the team. Greise and Levy have covered us so much its sort of like that, and I think the coverage has benefited for it.

A little but its football, not NASA. I did wince on the 'global warming' flub.
Generally speaking I think people whine way too much about the announcers. Theres only a handful I don't like.

I wil give him credit, he is not afraid to speak his mind. He has been honest about UM needing to prove they deserve the early season high rankings. Also to the point that CU and PSU may be better now than when we played them my answer is one that he made about OSU's strenght of sched, You can only control what a team is like when you play them. What they do after you play them can make you look good or bad but only based upon your result against them. " That is so true of UM right now. The other big comment about our schedule is that we have "only left the state of Michigan one time and that was to abuse a very bad Rutgers team. How will they handle Iowa?" Well at the begining of the year Iowa looked like our 3rd or at worst 4th toughest opponent. Now I would put them behind OSU, Wisconsin, Colorado, and maybe even Sparty (simply because it is a rivalry game). Even PSU with no LB's looks better that what I am seeing out of Iowa these days...

I did find it funny that Kanell basically before this last game called the blowout and even said by more than 30 when it was all over. Joey looked at him like he was crazy but post game Danny was just laughing about being correct.

Kanell, and the rest of the idiot ESPN crew, still stands by the notion that Michigan simply cannot run the ball.

he loves his Buckeye$ but let it keep him from calling a spade a spade. He recognizes good football and is honest about it in his praise when he sees it.

Always damning Michigan with faint praise and he's apparently enjoyed doing it the last ten years. Party is over this year, this year we get to see Kirk squirt some tears over his Buckeye$.

Right! The dozens of sucknut broadcasters are going to be so green with envy. Herbsheep, Galloway and R. Smith can go to hell one by one.
