When I was growing up, Michigan was #1 and Sparty was usually Michigan's bitch.

There was a family across the street with a big green awning and a wheel cover on their truck that was green with a block S.  The father was probably in his 30s at the time, was always decked out in Sparty green.

Keep in mind, this was the 80s so being decked out in Sparty gear all of the time was fairly unusual.   Anyway his kids seemed decent enough and I started to get to know them a little.  Then one day I was talkiing to the older kid and he said "I can not talk to you any more. My dad says that your dad is an Asshole for being a Michigan fan"

Nice Father..not allowing a couple of kids play together based on his idiot school bias. That was my first introduction in to Sparty mindset.

That and Dantonio's constant remarks and jabs "Threat" "Those who stayed etc."  That man has a beat down coming and that right soon.

The problem with MSU is that their fans are not all that different from their coach, Dan T'oneo.

So you can't say, well their fans are awful but Harbaugh should respect the skill of coach T'oneo. Not a bit of it. Because T'oneo is the head of the rotten fish that is Sparty team and Sparty nation.

A few Spartans lining the sidewalks outside the big house last year throwing bottles and spiting on Michigan fans. It wasn't a ton of them, but a few, and I was just so upset.

I had a fling with one girl from MSU about 10 years ago. She gave me a gift that was curable, thankfully. Ever since, I just think their whole student body is an STD infested cluster that should die in a fire.

I will admit that I've had a similar experience to what some of mentioned here. I generally had few problems with Spartan fans - ones I knew and otherwise - until their most recent run of success under Mark Dantonio. It didn't help, of course, that Michigan was wandering through the woods at the time, if you will, so every week, I would have to hear about how good MSU football was and what happened to Michigan and semi-polite ways to say "you suck" and I didn't recall ever being this way to them except maybe for some casual disregard in the past whenever they dared discuss football.

Indeed, I still remember one encounter where I was accused of being a "Walmart Wolverine", at which point I pulled up the alumni rolls and pointed out my name, and they apologized by calling me "arrogant" for correcting them. Not sure how that was arrogant, but OK, whatever. Most of the Spartans around me would not stop coming into my office after their miracle last year, so for days, I had to hear about that play over and over.

I am sick of their shit. Let's do this.

The one thing that burns me more than anything else is our apology to MSU in 2014 after the stake in the ground pregame thing at Spartan Stadium.  It was bad enough we got our asses kicked, then we have to apologize because of some goofy pregame stunt?  Add in Dantonio's overreaction after that game, man I hope we run them off the field this year.

I have a million reasons, but lately it's been the hypocrisy that they're somehow a different kind of fanbase, not "delusional" like we are.

"Man, you Walvies sure are excited to beat a 2-5 team, I love how you think it's going to erase the last several years!"

Firstly, no one thinks that, secondly, yeah, thanks for reminding me how introspective and measured you guys were after ending your six years of misery against 2-5 Rich Rod Michigan in 2008.

"It doesn't matter that we needed a miracle to win last year because we statistically dominated, brah!"

This will come a minute or so before you're told that Michigan's win over Wisconsin doesn't matter because even though Michigan outgained them 349-159 and had 21 first downs to 8, Michigan only won by a TD.

Basically the truth is whatever they need it to be right now, i.e. they're just like any other fanbase. I just hope they finally have to shut the fuck up for at least a little while after Saturday.

that they hate U-M students and grads from New York getting in their face like obnoxious East Coasters often do.  And they do think most U-M grads act superior, as noted by Darryl Rogers calling us the "Arrogant Asses from Ann Arbor".

But the reason I hate many of them is that they truly, TRULY have an inferiority complex about being little brother and substandard school.  They shouldn't feel that way, and they say they don't feel that way - but they do feel it, and they always will!!!

Oh - and because of Spartan Bob, and because of the non-interference call on Desmond, and just because - SCREW SPARTY!!!  Lets kick their asses all over the field, and in the 4th quarter when they are down on the ground, kick them again hard before the bus leaves and the couch fires start in East Lansing...

Which reminds me of probably their worst hypocrisy of all, whining about how "arrogant" and "elitist" UM alums are, while calling any anonymous Michigan fan they encounter online a "Walmarter" and often making some pretty nasty socioeconomic remarks based on little more than the bug up their asses.

Couldn't have said it better myself.  It's asounding to hear them trash people who went to smaller colleges for being "Walmart Wolverines" and then accuse us of being the arrogant ones.

I don't give a shit if a MSU fan went to MSU, Harvard, or dropped out of high school.  Their fandom is their decision.  But apparently I need to tote my diploma around if I want to earn the right to root for Michigan.

I've been a Michigan fan for a very long time. Being born and raised in Ohio, I honestly didn't know MSU was even a rival until the early 90ies. The main thing I have noticed is the bandwagon fans. When Michigan is winning a lot of the now MSU and OSU fans were cheering for the maize and blue. It makes me wonder how many fans who talk about hating the other teams fan bases are just talking about the same group of bandwagon fans swapping back and forth after wins.

As an alumnus who didn't grow up in Michigan nor lived there outside of my college years, I don't hate Michigan State. I couldn't care less about them which is easy since I don't come across many State fans. The inferiority complex drives their hate toward us which I find amusing most of the time. I do have relatives who are State alums and grew up in Ann Arbor. They NEVER trash talk about MSU sports. I believe because they know Michigan is superior and don't partake in that complex.

The disdain kicks in for all the douchey behavior from Dantonio, Connor Cook, Smoker, fans, etc.  That doesn't make me hate the school.  That's just annoying shit.

It's the Glenn Winston assault cover-up, minimal consquences for MSU dorm vikings, and Appling and Payne rape cover-up stuff that takes me past disdain into genuinely loathing MSU.

Bottom line is that 90% of the Spartan fans - the ones who attended MSU - would be Michigan fans...had they been admitted to the University. This is really what drives their attitude toward Michigan.

Karma. I don't hate (even in jest). My story is that I was at the Flint charity basketball game sponsored by Morris Peterson and Snoop dog. My wife and I had VIP seats, court side. We won the raffle of an autographed green and white basketball signed by Tom Izzo and Snoop Dog. This lady sitting immediately behind us begged us to sell her the ball. She claimed to be really good friends with Greg Kelser, blah, blah. I told her it wasn't for sale. My wife said to me, 'just give her the ball, we aren't 'State fans'. I responded, 'this ball is going to be worth a nice chunk of change'. As the game ended, the lady leaned between my wife and I and said to my wife, 'honey, it's not too late to start over with a better man'. And she turned to walk away. I turned and said, 'here you go, take the ball'. She started thanking me profusely and asked how much I wanted. I told her I didn't want her money. I said, 'what happens this coming season is going to be the karma from what you said and this ball'. True story.

As a young man I was pretty indifferent toward MSU. All I ever knew was complete and utter domination in the series, so I was firmly in the camp that barely considered them a rival. I ranked the the ND rivalry ahead of them... Even took more pleasure in beating PSU because, at the time, they were consistently a top 10 program with an all-time great coach (future unforeseen).

Then 2001 happened. I went apeshit that night because as a child/teenager, far too much of my happiness was tied to how well things went on Saturdays. While that irked me, the powers that be at the time and their fans hadn't adopted their current douchey aura to that point and they weren't constantly championing their forever slighted mantra... But that night probably planted the seed.

Then Braylonfest happened and Mike Hart threw that now infamous jab. Once again I was irked at how bent out of shape they got over the comments of a 20 year old kid. Sure, had one of the coaches said something like that, or a former player that was then a grown ass man with some perspective... I might take issue or offense to it. Maybe even use at the next year as bulletin board material... But they overreacted to a statement a gleeful kid made after an historic comeback and thrilling OT win. A kid that wasn't even from the state of Michigan.

Enter the RichRod years. I think most fans expected an adjustment period and to take a step or two back for the first 2 seasons or so of that experiment. I don't think anybody was prepared for it to be as bad as it actually wound up being. Their team and fans took far too much pleasure in wins over historically bad UofM teams. Teams that couldn't even beat the likes of Toledo. I understand. A win is a win, especially when you've gotten the short end of the stick for so long... But have some perspective. And class.

Onto the Hoke years... At this point, their program was gaining both momentum and respect.... But they still held on to the disrespekt card for dear life. Every one of those matchups I went into that Saturday thinking a loss was more likely than a win... Because by that time, they were officially good and Hoke still hadn't had enough time to dig the program out of its hole (didn't realize he wasn't capable until the last year). Your team is better. You already hold the advantage. Resorting to the dirty tactics that they did while trying to injure one of the few bright spots we had during that entire decade... Just inexcusable. You could have been proud of those victories. We weren't great or even good, but we were decent and competitive in most games. Not with those antics.

Finally, HARBAUGH. It was obvious for almost the entire game who the better team was. Even if the scoreboard didn't quite convey that as much as it should have. And then the last 10 seconds happened. I wasn't even that upset, or angry. It was just.... So surreal. You know plays like that are a possibility, even if unlikely... But they don't usually happen at the end of the game when teams are game planning the best approach to finish off a win. You also can see it happening to bad, or poorly coached teams, but last year's team was neither of those things. Not to mention that the kid that made the error was such a big part of why we were up in that game. You hit the lottery. The tone was set for everyone to hear and see throughout the game. Take your parting gift quietly, happily, and again with some humility.... Not Mork. He wanted to behave like that was part of his master plan, like he was some kind of coaching savant... And then top it all off with the cherry. Those smug, douchey words he shouted into the stands. Fuckin luckbox.

The last thing I'll add is their fans. They were incapable of simply enjoying their success. They are the type of fans that enjoy a Michigan loss far more than a MSU win. I also get so tired of them discounting any success UofM had prior to the BCS era. Even the 97 team. "Everything Michigan has accomplished happened when teams still wore leather helmets!" Its funny because, even in our dark ages, up until recently we had more BCS appearances and wins in those bowls than they did! You've won 7 of 8 and 3 straight.... And it's STILL one of the most lopsided rivalries in all of college football.... And if the past doesn't matter, shut the fuck up about last year's last 10 seconds and acknowledge what's coming to you no matter what your current record is... Because you certainly had no problem putting together circle jerks celebrating wins over 3-9 & 5-7 UofM teams.

I drove 10 hours, on a whim, to my first game at Michigan Stadium. It was my birthday, 10/20/12. As we kicked a last second field goal, I saw people rushing the field. I too jumped down onto the field, drunk, hugging strangers, and dodging baton-twirlers. I, for one, love MSU. Their tears are sweeter than birthday cake.

That's another thing I don't understand that whole line of thinking... Only current or former alumni are allowed to cheer for that University in athletics??? I can tell you, I've never stepped foot on the actual campus. It was a dream, but circumstances beyond my control throughout my childhood prevented it from coming true. Hell, maybe I wouldn't have gotten in or been able to attend under the best of circumstances... But don't sports fans usually develop their team allegiances at a pretty young age??? I remember the exact moment I became more than a casual fan that watched because that was the preferred team in our household, and it's not under the rosiest of conditions either.... Stewart to Westbrook. The way I felt after that game, I knew I'd never care about another football team quite as much. Professional or otherwise. But they are absolutely right. I didn't attend not one class. Should I stop visiting this blog? Quit watching on Saturday's? Throw away all my Michigan stuff? Am I a fraud???

An MSU "friend" of mine was really upset after the win last year because she didn't feel that Michigan fans were giving MSU the proper respect for the win.  She saw the comments and articles online about the officiating, the lucky play at the end, etc. and this soured her mood.

Let me repeat that...rather than focus on celebrating the win, she was upset that we didn't give them enough credit for the win.  For that reason, I greatly look forward to stomping them and then moving on like it wasn't a big deal.  The latter will probably get more under her skin than the loss itself.

My dad's side of my family are huge sports fans (of course, so am I). Half of his side roots for State and meanwhile the other half includes us, who root for the good guys. It makes for an interesting family gathering.

It was 1999, and the marching band went to East Lansing. We kinda shit the bed, it was a close game, etc.

As we were marching out of the stadium, obviously disappointed, a middle-aged woman looked me in the eye and blurted out, "you shoulda become a Spartan!!"

It wasn't that what she said was so inflammatory - but it was one of the first times in my life that someone who didn't even know me openly judged me for a choice I had made in life - one in which Michigan State wasn't even a realistic or reasonable option to choose from. Now, this judgment of me occurs daily on social media for me, but that was the first.

I'll not forget it, nor the fact that it was uttered by some anonymous woman on that chilly day. Fuck Sparty.

I lost several good (or so I thought) friends after we went to college -- me to UM and they to MSU.  I'd visit them on weekends, and all they would want to talk about is how lame UM is, how Bo Schembechler is a jerk who can't win bowl games, how many Rhodes Scholars they have, etc.  It was so annoying.  I would never bring stuff up, but eventually just decided to become antagonistic.  Ultimately I told them that they were Burger King and we were McDonald's, and decided it was not longer worth it.  And i think they represent many MSU fans.

I can't get this link to post, but check it out. This is a team that is coached to play dirty. That is why I hate MSU.  This video showcases their dirty play against Nebraska in 2012. They were penalized 9 times for 100 yards in this game, but from the looks of this video, they got away with alot more. Dirtbags, top to bottom.

Growing up in Ann Arbor MSU was truly our little brother. Start college, all my hs friends go to MSU and we're in our first year under Rich Rod. Friends were simply unbearable, never had a good experience in East Lansing, and I just all around hate Sparty deep in my heart. Worst experience was after we lost at EL with Tate at the helm. Rather than enjoy their win, Sparty fans were throwing beer bottles at me, my buddy, and my now fiancé while we were walking back to our car. Just a disgraceful fan base and a trash program.

Two other things: abject refusal to acknowledge the backgrounds of the "Little Brother" and "Pride Comes Before the Fall" dust-ups (or, in the former case, even the full quote). Also, what do Plaxico Burress, Charles Rogers and Devin Thomas have in common? They're all wide receivers MSU fans thought should win the Heisman.

Sorry guys, 25 years and counting since a WR pulled it off. He's the guy you like to heckle on College GameDay, by the way.

I just very rarely meet Spartans - may sound douchey but their degrees just don't travel. There are a decent number of big ten grads out here, Purdue, northwestern, Illinois, Minnesota, penn state, Indiana, Wisconsin...but very few MSU. Lots of Ohio state fans but none of them went there for school. Anyway, I was in a convenience store near my house and a guy pointed to my M hat and asked if I went there. When I said yes he pointed out the window and said "thats my car." It was a bmw 3 series with a Michigan plate with the sparty logo and a MSU Alumni frame. I was surprised but figured he was the exception to the rule. About 2 weeks later I stopped at the same store and he was working behind the counter. Not that there is anything wrong with honest work but it made the world make sense again

When I was 14 or 15, I was at the union in EL getting some food before the game. I had a football in my hands, and two MSU students came up and knocked the ball out of my hands, and tried to grab it. I had to kick one of their arms in order to grab it myself. That was the game with the miracle extra second... After the game, we were pulling out of the concrete stadium's parking lot, and some jackass started banging on my brother's car. My buddy and I got out, and did the pushing and shoving thing until an usher came over to break it up. I'll never forget it, and I'll never forget how much I hate Staee.

Win with cruelty.
