On a personal note, I never gave MSU fans much thought, but last winter, I was in Florida visiting my elderly father, and we had a run in with some fans. We were sitting outside at a restaurant, and he was wearing his ever-present Michigan baseball cap. A couple in their mid-fifties walked by us and, laughing, said, "Michigan sucks." This was obviously directed at my elderly father, who suffers from a bit of dementia and looks like it. He didn't even know what was going on, but I thought what low class losers, people in middle age talking trash to my 84 year old father.

In 1997 Our paperboy(MSU loving runt), as he delivered our Sunday paper, walked quietly onto our porch and proceeded to smash our M pumpkin. My wife and son were watching out the window unbeknownst to him. We called his father and the dickhead laughed, but did have enough class to make his son come  back and pickup the mess he made. Most of the MSU fans I know are pretty decent, but there are just enough of these bad paperboy types that any discussion of MSU brings up a bit of vomit.

The historical Spartans were a backwards society that shunned the acquisition of science and knowledge, all while owning more slaves than citizens. To become a man you had to murder a slave. Is it not fitting that MSU would choose this out of all the possible mascots to take pride in?

Already shared this in another post this week: 5th grade teacher bet me 5 laps around the soccer field that MSU would beat UM. A missed or neglected pass interference call involving Desmond Howard cost me that bet. I hate running...and MSU.

just consider how that green shirt or hat can cause you to seethe, to be disgusted by a person.

I was sitting in a restaurant last year after the Ohio State game and there was a Sparty family sitting at the next table talking about how Michigan sucks. They looked like a nice family in general, but as I bit my tongue (I'm not the kind of person who'd just start an argument with strangers) I felt nothing but contempt for them.

All you have to do is visit the RCMB for a few minutes to see that most of this fanbase is completely trash and scum of the earth.  Sad but true.

And honestly,  everytime they show the Izzone on TV for bball games, all I think of what a bunch of low-life punks these fans are.

Let's beat the fuck out of them.

I hate that pompous asshole. I had to listen to another sparty asshole the other day at the local watering hole. He is possibly the most obnoxious douchebag I've ever encountered. I hope we hang a hundred on these fools and go for the 2 point conversion every time we score. GO BLUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK sparty and all their assbag fans too !!!!!!!!!!!

I also meant to add that MSU is just a school and team very easy to dislike. If you look at it superficially, you'd think MSU makes a really good underdog story. Americans love the underdog.

But the loveable underdog narrative never really stuck with MSU. They aren't people's 2nd favorite team, there was no grand public narrative about how Sparty responded to Hart's little brother jibe with a big time winning streak is a tale of the little guy finally getting one back. If Northwestern have a good team or if Indiana gets bowl eligible a lot of people will go "oh that's good for them, well done" but very few people will even think that about MSU.

And I think it's because it's very apparent that their primary motivation is spite. Dantonio is their perfect coach because pure spite runs through him, it almost seems to consume him. Their fans immediately turned into gloating dickwads behaving worse than most fanbases (i.e. similar to OSU fans but without booming state pride and a vicious inferiority complex instead). While Michigan fans during their dominant era often displayed a certain kindness and yes condescending attitude toward Spartans, Spartans just took the chance to openly showcase all those ugly, bitter feelings they had stored up over the years.

Their teams always played dirty - not only but especially against Michigan - and this continued even as they started to reliably win the games. Their team has always been cocky even when play didn't really justify it and it of course got worse as their team got better. Those aren't likeable traits, these aren't noble underdogs finally having their day, people notice that. Spartans are spiteful, they're mean-spirited and graceless and it's very obvious and not just to Michigan fans. It's why their downfall is only a matter of time.

they act like football just started being played 7 years ago.    They dont acknowledge that they were winning when our program was at its lowest point in the last 80 years....

Typical when you dont have any history of your own...

I was a junior in high school, when Krk Gibson went off against us in the Big House, and Daryl Rogers made the "Arrogant asses" comment.  My swim coach/teacher was a Staee grad and once she found out I liked Michigan she'd say something smart about being an "Arrogant ass" every time I saw her until we beat them the next year.

Before that I liked MSU when they would play teams other than Michigan. So I'd like to thank her for cementing my hatred for all things Green and White.

When I was a kid my dad grandpa (who is a huge Meeeeeeechigan fan because he spent 10 weeks at U o M hospital as a kid and the reason I even started watching Michigan as a kid) and I went to the GLI. We drove all the way down(to Detroit) from Merrill MI. My aunt went to staee so as a super young kid I figured the hockey team should know her because they went/go to the same school and any preschool/kindergarten thing I went to was tiny so to me it made sense. I begged for a green sharpie and after States game in the freezing cold in a little Red Wings jacket so I could remain neutral (again super small child here) we waited by their bus and I held my program and sharpie up to the players who seemed to be 15 feet tall. One after one they passed me. Eventually my dad stops one of the coaches and asks for an autograph for me. The coach looks down and says "Buzz off kid" and gets on the bus. That is why I hate Msu. I hate their hockey team more than OSU football honestly.
