I don't know if we are certain they are better than BYU last year. Colorado's two opponents in 2016 have been even worse than ours. I think Colorado is improved from last year, but that may not be saying much. Their statistical profiles so far:
ESPN FPI: #37
Sagarin: #37
Massey: #65
SRS: #30
The S&P+ and FEI data are not out yet. But it is hard to glean much from these profiles because the data is so limited right now.

This. The skiing in Utah is much better.
September 11th, 2016 at 11:36 AM ^
And I would put Jackson Hole above it as well. Maybe Tahoe too.
September 11th, 2016 at 12:10 PM ^
Tahoe is not better than most places in Colorado from a pure terrain and snow perspective, that's not even an argument. Never been to Jackson Hole but I hear great things. I like Utah skiing a lot but it's not hugely different than Colorado, and the season in Colorado is a little longer. A Basin, for example, closed on June 12th this year and is probably going to open up again pretty soon.

I respect your opinion. However the chasm between Utah and Colorado skiing is so wide I will not bother defending. It's pretty widely accepted.

Utah has better snow but the backcountry (where the real action is these days) is getting crowded over there. Colorado offers more room to roam alone.

Good call. It was getting bad when I left 11 years ago.

They blew out two teams who are not good. They are apparently uptempo. But a Colorado fan told me not to actually worry.

Nobody knows how good any team really is this early, with the possible exceptions of the Houstons and FSUs of the world. Would be kind of cool if we beat up on them and they made some noise in the P12 this year though. Who knows.

including giving up 80 to UNLV.
We don't know how good they are, but I don't think that's the best way to prepare for facing Michigan.

Better than they have been. Probably still not good. But hopefully gets a P5 bowl team on our non-conference schedule.

Their other wins were against Umass, CSU, and Nichols State. They were beat handily against other Pac 12 teams. I think they've improved from last season, but I doubt we have anything to really fear with them doing the travelling.

but at best, they'll finish in the middle of the Pac 12.

Since they run up-tempo with a mobile QB, I think the UCF game was an excellent tune-up. If we can contain the edges better and keep their QB in the pocket, I think we'll be up 20+ at halftime again.
September 11th, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
I think Colorado will be a bowl team this year. 6 wins. They go 4-5 in the PAC 12.
They probably beat both Arizona schools (especially U of A), Oregon State again and Washington State. But I think it's more likely they lose one of those 4, but upset one of the mediocre Los Angeles teams.
So they will definitely be a tougher opponent than Rutgers, and Illinois as well.
I'd put them about equal or slightly above Maryland in terms of difficulty
September 11th, 2016 at 1:34 PM ^
where the state of Nichols is? Is it a place, a condition or an actual college that we need a roadmap to find? I hear they almost beat Georgia yesterday, so they must have a pretty good football players in their state.

Not far from the State of Ferris, IIRC.

and don't put slow-footed inside LBs on the field when it's obvious the only thing the opponent will do is heave the ball into the end zone.

With two exceptions. Unfortunately, those two exceptions are the most important two games.

Not sold on PSU at all either, but it always seems to be a tight game. Plus, Saquon Barkley...
