#6 Coaches / #5 AP

The AP Poll is also out. Michigan comes in at 5.
- OSU at 4th
- MSU at 12th
- Iowa at 16th
- Wisconsin at 10th

Oh hey! It's the most useless poll ever!

I would say MSU moving from 11th to 8th is a product of teams ahead of them losing, but Tennessee dropped from 10th to 14th for their "win" over Appalachian State. I'd flip Oklahoma and Michigan State for now, assuming we all still think both Houston and Oklahoma are good.

4 Big Ten teams in the top 10. Huzzah. Who cares if MSU looked like a MAC team on Friday?
September 6th, 2016 at 1:36 PM ^
And only 2 SEC, 2 ACC, 1 PAC 12, and Houston, so no Big 12. Love it.

The flipside of this is that once a few of those teams get exposed, people will shit on the B1G...

If they manage to win their nonconference games, then we can just tell everyone that our conference is so tough because all the best teams have to play each other.

Props for actually dropping ND and LSU far enough to be behind the unranked teams that beat them. Tennessee also took a hit, but I assume they only saw the Sparty final score and it passed the test compared to the other schools grouped in that 10ish ranking area. We should be ahead of stanford, but they did beat someone with much more of a pulse than Hawaii.
Also, take your pick for someone to replace Florida at 25. Miami, Nebraska, Utah, Boise, whoever.

I know this a random place to ask this question: does anyone know what time of the evening/night the team bus typically gets back to ann arbor after playing in east lansing? (assume the game concludes at the normal time of around 7ish)

MSU at 8 is more a function of everyone else that lost, rather than how they won against Furman. Pride comes before the fall and all that...

Swap Michigan and Stanford, swap MSU and Washington and it looks pretty good.

Seems about right and great for Charlie Strong. Can ND please lose one more game early in the season so they can proceed to become totally irrrelevant for the rest of the year?

Hawaii is the worst team in FBS this year. I'm fine with this ranking and of other teams.

Florida still being ranked is golden. That program seems to be in free fall.

To me. We just can't jump Stanford just yet. At least we moved up 2 spots.

Valenti said last week:
"Hawai'i is absolute garbage. Michigan will win that game 63-3."
That's crazy. Did anyone get it right on the score picks for Mgoblog?

UM got a 1st place vote in the AP if I'm reading that correctly.
September 6th, 2016 at 2:19 PM ^
They had one to start. So I don't think that's new.
September 6th, 2016 at 2:25 PM ^
Shame on me for not following that closely. Still interesting to me. :)

#5 seems right for us. At least Stanford isn't ahead of us and MSU didn't go up 3 spots (stupid coaches poll).
Wisconsin going from unranked to 10 is insane. Also, Washington going up that much seems a little excessive.
Ultimately, though, I can't be upset about there being only two SEC teams in the top 15.

No decent games this week for the rankings to mix up enough for them to move into the top 25 by the time we play them
September 6th, 2016 at 2:24 PM ^
It sure feels good to be back in the top 5. For those of you who say polls don't matter, they do. Specifically the AP. They matter for recruiting and the image of the program. Just like the most wins, highest attendance, etc.. high appearances in the AP polls contribute to the overall prestige of our program.
Side note: holy hell, wisconsin and texas
September 6th, 2016 at 2:24 PM ^
If Wisconsin beats MSU, there is a good chance we get GameDay.
Other possible games/locations:
Tennessee @ Georgia, Oklahoma @ TCU, Louisville @ Clemson, North Carolina @ FSU
If Louisville can beat FSU in week 3, then GameDay will be at Clemson. Otherwise, I like our odds.
September 6th, 2016 at 2:33 PM ^
Shit. I still need tickets for UM/UW. This is not good news for my wallet.

I would have said Oklahoma-TCU, but not anymore. Louisville seems overrated, but you're probably right, an undefeated UL probably gets the nod. Tennessee isn't getting the game right after Game Day goes to Bristol, and UNC-FSU is out since they'll be there for the Clemson-FSU game (plus UNC couldn't hang on against Georgia).
It kind of comes down to whether you'd rather go to Clemson or Michigan. Both have good shots to play in a Game Day game (Clemson at FSU is a near lock, and The Game looks like by far the best game that week), but UL-Clemson and Wisconsin-Michigan are probably the most attractive home games for both teams, and in that vein it's a shame they fall on the same week.

AP Poll is the only one that matters until the CFP poll. They are the tiny numbers that go next to the team names that the CFP committee sees.
