OT: Pokemon Go- have you played it?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on
Although it's nowhere near popular as the original craze back when I was a little kid and hooked like every kid in America, this game is pretty popular. For better or worse, as accidents pile up.

I'm curious to see how many on here have or are actively playing it. I love it because I'm getting some needed exercise while playing.

I caught a Pikachu on I-75 on Saturday. I was in the passenger seat.

My 13 & 11 year old started on release day.  I started a couple days after, just to have them teach me the game, quality time, walks together, etc.

And then I maybe took it too far... Took my son "hunting" in a graveyard after dark, wife and police did not approve.

Took my daughter shopping and I played more than she did, and then she disappeared and I had to call her.  She hid because she was embarrassed that I was a poke-zombie following her around the store.

And then I found out it thought I was walking while stuck in traffic on US-23.

Now I'm level 11 and they're not level 5 yet.  Very soon, my kids will stop playing entirely because I made it un-cool.

And then to have something else in common with them, I'll say it's not cool anymore, too.

Myself and about two thirds of the team I work on are all playing with people up to thier mid thirties. Also, I was in Cinncinati over the weekend and there were several hundred people on a bar crawl in the OTR area starting at 16 bit and ending The Rook for those familiar with the area. They had three different routes, one of each team, because of how many people attended.

I've been having a lot of fun playing it. Is it childish? Sure, but it's fun and harmless (at least in my case). Is it leading to longer walks for me and my dog? Absolutely. I just wish they would make the app not work at over 10mph or so in order to prevent car accidents.

I'm a casual player, though.  I simply don't have time to go from Pokestop to Pokestop or to camp one.

I'll open the game whenever I go to a new place, just to see if there are any Stops nearby... but that's the extent of it.

Hell fucking no. Would rather go for a run, work out at the gym, go camping, spar, play my sax, read a book, or just drink vodka and light my farts on fire.

I am 33 and play it pretty often. I love all of the "big men mature" men mocking how others spend their time. I don't play fantasy sports which is if not more of a time waster than PoGo. At least with Pokemon go it emphasizes being outdoors and moving around.

Not playing it and don't plan to. Not getting sucked into "the next fad" that millions of other people are doing. That and I'm 31 years old and have more important things to do with my life and I'd rather not waste it on Pokemon.

I respect people not wanting to play, but the "I'm an adult with important things to do" argument is obnoxious. You obviously have time to monitor a Michigan football message board in the offseason to let people know that you have really important things to do.

It's the summer. There is no Michigan football right now. People are choosing to spend their time recreationally by playing Pokemon outside. You're spending your time on a message board instead. Posting on a message board doesn't really fit with the "important things to do" narrative. You obviously have free time. You're just using it differently. Do you watch TV? That's also a type of recreation.

Shockingly no. But I do find the stories of idiots walking off cliffs and leaving their cars in drive while leaping out to catch them more than a bit amusing.

Darwinism has a new buddy it seems.

My youngest daughter is into it, the two older children not so much.  She even was on tv for about 15 seconds on a local tv station when they did a news story on Pokemon Go.  I was impressed that they referred to her as a Pokemon Trainer, until I asked her and she explained what that means.

I have played a few times for about 10 min each time. I get bored with it very fast.

I don't know what you mean that it isn't nearly as popular as some other time? The game has been downloaded more times in one week than Tindr has been in 4 years of existence. I read there was one or more days in the first week that it had more internet searches than all porn combined. Seems to me it's way more popular than it's ever been.

Extremely exploitive micro transaction game. I've played it out of professional interest and there's really nothing interesting there. That said, for people that can't see through it, it's like they discovered crack.

who got himself arrested by showing up at the police station while a warrant was out for his arrest. As the chief said, "we don't get the smart ones like that."

Yep. I am level 21. I usually turn it on before I go for my morning run. I pretty much have most of the rare Pokemon except for Dragonaire.

It's really enjoyable minus the fact that I go to work and my wife works at home so she gets to catch pokemon all day... she just caught a snorlax today cp774.

The majority of the bad press has been fake, car accidents etc.  Yes some of it has happened but a few notoriously bad clickbait sites were called out for creating fake news.  That would be okay, if every main stream media site didn't then link to or reference those same stories.

The opening screen warns to beware your surroundings and quite a few "Here's your sign" type events have occured but that guy hitting a tree while driving for example was proven fake as were the majority of initial stories.

Yes I do know someone in town here hit a kid, and another group used lures to rob people but just want to remind everyone to watch where they get their news from.  I get peeved at seeing fake news linked, re-linked and then become reality because everyone believes it.

Yepp it's pretty popular at my office. My boss dreads the day they make it so you can battle your friends. None of us would get any work done. My highest CP Pokemon is a 156 Eggexute(sp). I've been to the gym twice and lost in 40 seconds both times. When I run at night I usually hunt for them.
