OT: Best new music you have discovered in the last year
Judgement free zone here. Just curious what new music everyone here has been listening to, and what about that band do you enjoy.
The only new band ive had any real interest in has been Silversun Pickups. Mostly because i have always had a thing for rock bands that use alot of distortion to create an emotional layer to their music. They arent ground breaking artists or anything, just remind me of listening to older Smashing Pumpkins a little bit.
Now your turn, give me some of your personal new favorites. Hopefully we can all broaden our musical horizons a little bit.
Agreed. Bloom was such a great album and the last two have been duds.
My favorite albums by Andrew Bird are still Weather Systems and The Mysterious Production of Eggs, from 2003 and 2005, respectively. If you haven't listened to those check them out.
I never got into their older albums but just listened to Sun City Creeps and loved it. I'll check out the rest of the album.
Nice to see that new Andrew Bird so high on that list!
My wife and I are big fans of Tyler Lyle.
Not sure if he's "new" but Sturgill Simpson gets a lot of play too.
Not really new music, but I have been listening to Coheed and Cambria a lot lately after discovering that they did more than just Welcome Home.

I just discovered Bleachers. It's a side project from the guitar player of Fun (Jack Antonoff). Got a great 80's vibe to it. really unique
I didn't want to like Bleachers - but their live show won me over. So energetic. Loved it.
Kevin Morby, Japanese Breakfast, Walter Martin, Thundercat, Shabazz Palaces
Love threads like these - but names without any description is worthless. Why should I check this group out?
is to a well-written review with a streaming sample. So take a chance, I guarantee that $75 Guitar are nothing like any other band mentioned on this thead.

Haha. Only when he duets with Roland
I find it amazing that anyone else knows who this is. I just was turned on to him recently - must've been all the catchy song titles - and was bummed that I'm missing his live show this week due to my travel schedule. Seems like a pretty classy guy. LOL.
if you like Wheeler Walker Jr, you should check out Birdcloud.
LOL - thanks for the tip on Birdcloud. Seems ridiculous. Right up my alley.
Getting ready for Lollapalooza this year, so:
Definitely gotten into truly listening and revisting Radiohead and all of their albums. Their new album is pretty good as well, A Moon Shaped Pool
Over the past few years I've drowned myself in plenty of LCD Soundsystem. Cannot wait for this show.
Ghost. Saw them a few years back at Lolla. Pretty fun "metal" act.
M0
Deerhunter
Daughter
Foals
Modern Baseball
Grimes (again, for a few years now but seeing her/them soon...really dig her)
Fidlar
Other honorable mentions from my really getting into music over the past 5 years:
Hot Chip
M83
Lots and lots of 80s...Talking Heads, The Cure, much more I can't even pick out
TV on the Radio (one of my favorite bands)
Fugazi
The Kills
Nice...honestly didn't know much about them. Given them some listening-to over the past hour though.
Listen to Wavves?!
It's amazing to me how amazing Hot Chip are live and how horrible Grimes is live. I'd put her up there with one of the worst shows I've ever seen - right up there with Kitty Pride. And I love "Visions". She seems confused to me. I thing she should just make pop music and not try and be somehting she isn't anymore. I could be wrong, just my 2 cents.
Agreed on Hot Chip. I'm not even a huge fan of their records but they are amazing live. Try to get to every show of theirs I can.

The Japandroids, and Beat Connection. Quality bands with some nice indie beats, would certainly recommend.

Tons of great underground bands with that old sabbath sound. Bands like The Shrine, red scalp, Droids attack, uncle acid & the deadbeats, wet cactus, Alabama thunderpussy, wofat, and bungalow bums just to name a few.
Check out Pallbearer. They're doom metal not stoner metal, but their sound is basically "Sabbath with the record player at half speed". I really dig them, and I'm not a big doom metal fan.
I can't get enough of this genre right now
